yes just go with Microsoft security essentials super easy and in the new versions of windows it come standard.

the other one I would recommend is AVAST

However you will need to remove the trend before you can install anything new to do that you can use this free program called app remover. This a MUST you can not have 2 antivirus programs running on the pc at the same time.

I started using AVG last year when I mentioned to a computer guru that I had paid $70 for my McAfee protection. I had to first remove the McAfee app and then install AVG.

I no longer ever recommend AVG it used to be a great product but has gone down hill and is making some questionable decisions. On the support forums we have taken it off of the recommended products list.

I at one time did use AVAST on all of mine and actually still have it on my netbook it is great but today MSE is just so easy to use and is a very satisfactory product we are recommending it the most. There is not the yearly registration like you have on AVAST. Once it is installed it is set up and forget it.

Of course the best protection is safe surfing, a layered protection of a good updated antivirus program and malware scanners like malwarebytes and superantispyware to be used once a week or so to check for malware which most antivirus programs do not detect. Plus add WOT to your browsers for safer surfing.
I also urge adding spywareblaster and updating it weekly, no scans to do at all just open it update it click to enable all protection the shield turns green and it sits there in the back ground protecting you while you surf.

One of the best sites to get any of these programs and others that are regularly needed is a site called ninite, they provide the installation that will have none of the added junk so many add like toolbars etc.

It is fine to have programs like malwarebytes and superantispyware on the pc as well as the antivirus since they are not running full time you only run them when you scan so there is no conflicts. It is just no 2 antivirus programs on at one time.

But always remember if you have an antivirus program on the pc it must be removed fully prior to installing a new one.

I was using MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) on my old laptop that crashed. With my new one, I'm using Kaspersky (paid) which I absolutely love, and might continue to buy it after my 2-year contract is up; it's easy to use. My alternative would be to go back to MSE again on my Windows 8 computers since it's free and easy.

you are welcome. Jasdip MSE works well with 7,your going to have to get the correct version 32 or 64 bit. l would guess you have 64 bit? You can get it from ninite link, or from Microsoft link. Be sure to use App remover to remove any existing AV.
by the way you can use mSE on xp computer with sp3

The plain one is free if you go for the pro version you get a trial period only if you don't want to pay stay away from the pro button.

I had Norton, until it let a virus in, so went to AVAST for about 2 years, they purchased it for 3 years at a reasonable rate and am happy with it.

I love Microsoft Security Essentials.....recommended by my computer repair guy.
And it is free.....doesn't take up a lot of space on the hard drive.
