Don't know what AVG you downloaded but if you download the free one right from the AVG site posted it is completely free as all my friends use that and are not asked for money after 30 days. Sounds like you tried a trial of some other version maybe? Mary

I did notice the one that had the word FREE (on the right) was only a free trial, while the really free one simply said basic protection.

Frankly, after being a devoted AVG user for years and contending with its ever expanding bloat, I just switched to MSE that Mikie linked and love it. It's simple and it works.

just be sure if you do decide to switch to use a dedicated removal tool to remove the previous Antivirus program from your pc it is essential to remove all bits so there is nothing left to conflict.

Ravencajun, I used the AVG removal tool (from AVG) and still can't get rid of the warning to update from 7.5. I was just working on a post in hopes of getting some help here. Couldn't find anything to help with removal in the link from Security Garden, only installation, so I used the one that came with it.

2 tools make sure you use the right one. 64 Bit or 32 Bit.

Thanks Zep, but I've already tried that one (twice from the # of my downloads). I got so annoyed with that notification (plus notice in taskbar that Resident Shield is not installed) that I removed AVG completely, but even that isn't getting rid of that 7.5 notice.

are you seeing any thing when you use App Remover?

Yes, decide this time you will fix it yourself. Remember to walk away if you get flustered. Remember too to click Cancel if you feel overwhelmed, not OK which says you want the change you created.

If you prefer to stick with AVG this is the link for the free version
AVG hit the download button at the top right (light bulb)
During install it will ask if you want other additional items say NO they are not needed they include a toolbar and some other stuff that is very hard to get rid of.(which is why I don't really recommend it much these days)

ravencajun, I tried to uninstall AVG and it ask me if I wanted the FREE version! So, I said ok. Can't believe it was that simple. I am keeping copies of this info. Thanks so much for all your help.
