Buying older vs new model compact Mieles

Hello to all,

I am currently looking at buying a washer and dryer.

I really like the extra large capacity Mieles but after looking closely at how I wash stuff, I wouldn't really benefit from the extra capacity.

This brings my decision over to the W3033 & T8003 for over 4000$ new here in Canada!

My other option is to drive 500 KM (300mi) to the Unboxed outlet and pick-up a set of W1213 or W1119 with a T1313 for 2250-2500$, unboxed but brand new (maybe some little scratches).

All warranty being equal (1 year basic) and given the fact that I would drive that far for a washer/dryer set (to save some money).

Is it better getting the older set or paying extra for the new one, there are small program differences between both machines but I'm not sure it's worth the premium.

The only advantage I see with the older model is that it's 220 V. so water temp can get up there (if I'll use it).

Any opinions comments are welcome.

Strictly speaking from a financial perspective: Can you arrange for delivery? If not, and the smaller size capacity is not a deterrent for you, I would still give serious consideration to the new W1213 and matching dryer. That's half the price of the new ones. You're still getting a warranty, right? Is it worth your time and gas money to save almost half ? Only you can make that decision.

Let us know what you decide.

As an aside, supposedly there is a promotion starting tomorrow for Canadian purchases extending the warranty and also free delivery if you ask? See the tread on used Miele pricing.

Covingtoncat, thank you for the advice.

I would say yes it is worth to me drive-up and buy form the outlet, 1 day of hassle = 2000$.

I found out new stuff that still puts me off balance though:

The W1213 is a 6KG machine but the T1313 is 5KG, it is also 4 inches shorter in depth. I don't know if the dryer can be safely stacked on the washer or is too small a capacity for the washer?

And I have to find a way to plug both on one 220V outlet? Is Miele still selling those splitters? All extra expenses that close the gap vs. buying new.

The outlet offers the same basic 1 year warranty as on new washers & dryers but nothing over that.

That is a La Perla II. I have the fully integrated model. Extremely satisfied and would definitely buy @~$1K. I would prefer salt intake to be located in-door and the LED lights of the Miele Diamond but not worth the price premium IMO. I also purchased a La Perla II floor model.

When our kitchen was redone in 2006, I didn't know about Miele, so we went with a GE Profile dishwasher, range and OTR microwave. The range and microwave worked fine, but continued to have issues with the dishwasher. Got it exchanged under the Lowes warranty for an Electrolux. It wasn't any good and was repaired 5 times in 3 months, so Lowes refunded us back. Was then without a unit for 2 year until we got the Miele in 2010. We went with the stainless front, since we decided as appliances needed to be replaced, we go with stainless so they would all match. BUT if I were redoing my kitchen now - I'd get the panel ready Miele so it would have the wood cabinet facing on it.

SO, there was no word from Mr. Appliance today AND Miele was also unable to reach him ??? Did they not offer to put you on their in house guy's sched. at that point ? Do not disagree with you about EXPECTING a working DW - floor model or not. However, you didn't get that and there is no going back to square one. It's like a wrecked car - it's not EVER going to be unwrecked. You chose to pursue a remedy and that's what has turned into a fiasco! I'm not convinced that if you had gone in on the 9th ( which makes it only 20 days, not a month) that FL Builders wouldn't have stonewalled you then too. Perhaps they would have convinced you to have it repaired and they would have sent their "guy" who just may have been from your favorite: new york minute - then how much agro would you be writing about. Additionally, your first contact with the actual manufacturer who underwrites the warranty was on the 15th or 16th making it 5-7 business days depending on how you count em. Now 7 days doesn't exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy but it's not an eternity either. I'm more concerned @ MR. Appliance going AWOL and Miele's inability to get movement. The svc. cntr. is still open the left coast crowd - maybe another call to them for an explanation @ Mr. App. at least. Maybe they'd bump you up their guy's list - though the person to make that happen won't be in until tomorrow on the East Coast. "What silly things have I done? " Not exactly silly , but going back to the unhelpful , and stonewalling dealer to expedite the repair and alter the terms of the deal ( xtended warranty refund ) was not your finest moment. I understand you wanting to be rid of this mess, and I hope you can get you $$$ quickly - but prepare yourself for another battle with FL. B and your cc co. If it (battle) doesn't happen, great - but you'll drink less and have fewer grey hairs if in fact it shakes out that way. Remember the dealer experience when they wanted your $$$ - think about how they'll act when asked to give it back to you ! Be sure to get EVERYTHING IN WRITHING from the dealer when returning the DW.

deeagaux, thanks very much. I just got back from the dealer's, and your advice was invaluable. The dishwasher and warming drawer looked perfect, even though both had been used. The Master Chef Speed Oven, though, was another story. It had all the trays, manual and probe inside it, so the guy looked slightly askance at me as I practically put my head into the cavity for a second look at the oven interior. The second time, I noticed that the roof of the oven was covered with black/brown flecks and chunks of food. I told him that I'd take the dishwasher and warming drawer, but that I wasn't interested in the oven. God knows what that would smell like when it was hot! He said he'd get it cleaned up, but he needn't do so on my account. I may spring for a Master Chef after all, but it will be a new one. I asked where the stainless toekick for the dishwasher was and he said that he thought they only came in black. He said he'd get me one (but I'm thinking it won't be stainless based on his initial answer. If stainless is what I should be holding out for, please let me know. I'll do some research in the meantime. Thank you again for your recommendations. The appliance market in Orlando, despite having several major dealers, isn't at all competitive. Full retail is the norm, package or no. Really aggravating. I bought my Capital Culinarian and ModernAire range hood insert from Trevor, saved myself sales tax (did have to pay a nominal fee for shipping, though), and doubled the manufacturer's wrarranty using my AMEX card. Tempted to do this for the D/W, speed overn and warming drawer, but it's easier to buy them out of the allowance in the house build budget. Thanks again!

The set that I am getting is the 1213 and the 1413 dryer, and are both the same depth. I don't know if you can put a smaller dryer on top. Is that something you can check out with the store? Same thing with the splitters. That would be a deal killer right there, unless you know an electrician who works on the cheap.

There are a couple of US retailers that still have the 1413 NIB available (last time I checked I think Gourmet Appliances had some), but I don't know if shipping to you is do-able. I think I read a thread on here where someone had a similar question, but I don't recall the outcome.

If you went with new units, would you be able to get the 10 year warranty or is that only applicable to the larger capacity units?

Two thousand is a LOT of $$$. Hard to pass up.

I have an older Novotronic 1986...maybe one of the last ones before Miele changed the washers.
I love it. It takes 220 and has the splitter. Took a steep learning curve to learn how to wash with it. I also had to wash most of my towels and linens a couple of times without detergent to get all the detergent out.
Now I love it. I use Persil exclusively that my SIL sends me from Europe. It doesn't take much though, I measure with a coffee scoop and use Boraxo in every load.
Washing cycles are long, but you will adapt. I can wash a set of king size sheets with some extra pillowcases or a queen comforter. Can't quite squeeze in a king comforter.

The heater, I think, is important and is responsible for the improved cleaning.
