Now what to make any ideas? I was going to make Taco Soup but hubby says he don't think the beans would be a good idea for him right now LOL !!!

Meatloaf, ground beef and noodle casserole, meatballs and gravy, cabbage rolls, barbeque on a bun, soup with potatoes,carrots, celery, onions and NO BEANS. LOL

I am thinking of soup didn't really want to run to town for potatoes but I can! Used the last of them yesterday.....also could do the meatloaf but again no potatoes and Brian would think it terrible to have no mashed potatoes with it......would love cabbage rolls but the cabbage does what the beans do LOL!!!!!What Mamatoad is the ground beef and noodle casserole?

bcskye beat me to it, I was going to say that first you needed to go to Kroger and get some pink slime. (grin) I also grind my own pork and make breakfast sausage, italian sausage, etc. It's easy. I also grind beef and venison if I run out of the ground stuff that I get when I have beef processed. Since Carl retired I have a small Mennonite place do my beef processing, they do a good job and I guarantee they don't have the equipment to process any pink slime. They also let me into the working portion of the facility so I could see it was spotless, in spite of my "surprise" visit. It's run by a father, 2 sons and a daughter and I'm not concerned about what's in my ground meat. Although I don't use much ground meat, the girls do, and when they run out, they raid my freezer. Yeah, go figure. So, if I need a quick batch of ground meat, I put it in the food processor. For some reason I find that I eat less and less ground meat, I was never wild about the texture and now less so. That's one reason I do it in the food processor, it's more minced than ground, if that makes sense. I always have to add fat to my ground meat if I'm going to use it for burgers, it's just so lean that it sticks to the pan. I like butter best for flavor, but use olive oil because it's healthier. anyway, the only tips? The meat works better partially frozen, which has already been mentioned. Don't add too much fat, because you can always add fat after the meat is ground, but you can't take it back out. It's not much trouble, you know what's in there and you have more control over the texture, all good things. Annie

Here's another TERRIFIC recipe that calls for 1/2 pound of ground beef. So terrific, in fact, that next time I will double it and use a whole pound anyway. Actually, now that I think of it, it called for pork, but we don't eat pork, hence my substitution. But it was so heavenly with the beef, I was dreaming of the leftovers. I made this last week for Chinese New Year. I had a lot of napa cabbage and looked through my Chinese cookbooks for something different to do with it. I had potato cellophane noodles on hand, so I used those. I think it will be even better with regular ones. I will be making this often, not just for Chinese menus -- it is a GEM of a recipe because not only is it seriously delicious, it is SO fast -- on the table in about half an hour (at least if you already have minced ginger and minced garlic on hand), but it tastes like it's been simmering all day. Meatball Soup (Baitsai fensz rouwan tang) Adapted from "Harmony of Flavors," by Yung-chi Chao Chen, who writes, "This is a very delicious and substantial soup which combines meat, vegetables, and bean thread. It can be prepared and heated up before being served at banquets as well as at family meals." 2/3 lb. Chinese cabbage (celery cabbage or napa), about 3 cups, 1 1/2" sections 2 oz. dried bean thread (cellophane noodles) 6 cups water 1 1/2 T soy sauce 1/2 t salt For the meatballs: 1/2 lb ground beef [orig. recipe called for ground pork, about 1/4 fat] 1/4 t salt 1 T soy sauce 1 T minced scallion 1/2 t minced ginger root (I keep it already grated in the freezer) 1 t dry sherry 4 T water 2 t cornstarch Preparation 1. In a bowl, mix the meat with the salt, soy sauce, scallion, ginger, and sherry. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time while with a spoon or a fork, mixing in one direction until all the water is used up and the meat has become a smooth paste. Sprinkle in the cornstarch and mix well. 2. Soak the bean thread in hot water for about 5 minutes. Drain and cut the thread into 6 inch lengths. 3. Wash the cabbage and drain. Cut the cabbage stalks into 1 1/2" sections. Cooking In a saucepan bring 6 cups of water to a boil. Add the cabbage, bring back to a boil, and then simmer for 5 minutes. Add the salt, soy sauce, and bean thread and cook for another 2 minutes. With a spoon scoop some meat mixture and with the help of the palm of your left hand, form the meat into a ball about 1 1/4" in diameter. Wet your left hand beforehand and also dip the spoon in a bowl of cold water every time you start a new meat ball. Drop the balls in the boiling soup one by one until all the meat is finished. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes and serve hot. Gung hay fat choy!

This is a rather old thread but I wish to make a comment anyway since every time I search for fire safety-dogs, it comes up as one of the few resources. Also this thread catapulted me into finding a solution! This is it and I couldn't be more excited to have found it!Someone above mentioned a harness made for letting rescue dogs down from a helicopter into an emergency zone. That looked great until I found the following, which is less than half the price at $70. https://www.x-itproducts.com/how-it-works-large-pet-escape-sling/ At this time it's not offered on Amazon so you have to go directly to the X-It website to order. Ours arrived today. My husband and I tested it out a bit. Okay, we didn't throw our dog out the window however easily got our 80 lb. Golden into the sling/harness very very quickly without any struggle from him (and he's a guy who snaps at being brushed - gently). It's just so easy to get the sling on - slip paws into the large holes, pull up and cinch the velcro at the neck. Next we picked him up using the handles - no problem - and again, not an ounce of struggle. He was obviously well supported and comfortable, even off the floor! We were very happy to discover the sling comes with an attached nylon webbing strap that was way longer than it would take to get him down from our 2nd story bedroom. (It's made for a 4 story building.) Best of all, the "strap" has handle loops every so often taking away the danger of it slipping through your hands while letting your dog down. We're seniors yet I feel confident we can do this if necessary! Of course using this is a last resort and it clearly states that in the instructions. But we feel so much better having a 2nd way out of our 2nd story bedroom for our dog, as well as ourselves (via ladder). We're so grateful someone finally thought of large dogs. Thank you X-It!!! We'll be spreading the word to everyone we know who has dogs. And no, we're not paid by the company, nor have we received any free products! We're simply happy to have finally found this solution. But I agree with some of the above comments, the next house we buy will be one story. Until then, we have a plan.

or how about when they have blocks of cheese on sale for $5.59 a block or packages of chicken on sale for $7 a package but the amounts in the packages are slightly different. I go through every single package to make sure I'm getting the biggest package for my set price. Those people who just pick up a package without looking, I just want to shake them. My son taught his GF this secret and she was so excited. I'm like the rest of you in that I do figure out the unit price. My son can't read his way out of a paper bag (well he can now but not in high school) but he could look at a math question and give you the answer. In Grade 9 Math one of the tests required that you right out all of the steps needed to answer the question. He got all the answers right but failed the test because he couldn't write out the steps. Eventually it was a skill that he did have to learn - sort of.

Have you ever made stuffed pepper soup? I made this version from Cooks.com but I cut it by more than half other than the beef. I used the recipe for guidance only and it is now a favorite.

STUFFED PEPPER SOUP
2 lbs ground beef (used 1#)
1 lg onion chopped
5 green peppers, chopped (used 2-3)
Brown the above ingredients and drain well. Now add:
6 cans of Tomato Soup and 5 soup cans of water (Used 1)
1 can of beef broth & 1 broth can of water
2 tsp of Brown Sugar (don't think I used it at all)
2 small cans of Tomato Sauce
3/4 cup of uncooked white rice (Used a handful)

Simmer on low until the rice is cooked. You may eventually want to add about another cup or so of water, if the soup gets too thick.

(I've doubled this recipe and frozen a portion of it. When I go to use the frozen batch, I added a can of beef broth and another can of tomato soup. It just seemed that after it was frozen it was really thick!)

I had ground beef out as well. I just made meatballs for spaghetti sauce. It's simmering right now.

Here's a concoction I made one day when I had ground beef and wanted something different. It's a big hit and we continue to eat it.

INGREDIENTS:
- Ground beef or turkey
- Package of beef stew mix (the small packets of seasoning)
- Frozen package (or fresh) of mixed colored peppers w/ onions
- wheat egg noodles

HOW TO MAKE:
- cook beef, drain
- add stew seasoning mixed with water
- add peppers/onions
- add little more water if needed (I do)
- optional: add kitchen bouquet seasoning for rich gravy color
- cook noodles separately

When onions/peps cook down and are soft (approx 30-35 mins), mix noodles in to finish the casserole. Eat up.

Delicious. You can really embellish this dish with chick peas, broccolli, mushrooms, or whatever you like. Easy clean up too.

Enchilada casserole, or taco salad with chips. You can make up the meat with either taco or spaghetti sauce and freeze it because it is cooked. I do it all the time.

I add a pound of hamburger to this:
Baked Ziti
Serves: 8
Ingredients

1/2 pound ziti
1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
3 cups (12 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
3 cups spaghetti sauce, divided
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 9- x 13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook ziti until just barely tender; drain and place in a large bowl.

Mix ricotta cheese and half the mozzarella cheese with the ziti. Cover bottom of prepared pan with half the spaghetti sauce. Spoon ziti mixture into pan; cover with remaining spaghetti sauce. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and top with remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake 20 to 30 minutes, or until cheese melts and is light golden.

i like to make meatloaf burgers...2 lbs would make at least 8 quarter pounders, and either leftovers or freeze for a quick dinner night...
