Bought a set of bamboo steamers, now what?

I checked out two Dim Sum books from the library just last week. The more I looked at them the more I wanted to make dim sum. I am not too crazy about the deep fried stuff, but the steamed items, especially the char siu baos (BBQ pork buns) looked so delicious that I drooled all over the page. :-)

Went to the store this morning to buy myself a flat bottomed wok, and a set of bamboo steamers. The steamer set comes with two bottom tiers and a top lid. The baskets are not very big, about 10" across, probably can steam 5 - 6 buns in one basket. Hubby and little man love char siu bao and I would like to be able to steam a dozen at a time. They can eat to their hearts content and I can freeze the leftovers for them to snack on later. I figured 2 tiers would allow me steam 12 at a time so it's got to be perfect.

As excited as I could be, came home and did a search online to see how to use these bamboo steamers properly. Realized I shouldn't use both tiers to steam buns at the same time. If I were to steam the same food in both tiers, the food on the bottom would get cooked faster than the food on top. UGH! That defeats the purpose of buying the 2-tier set. The only way I can use both baskets together is to steam different things, with food that requires less steam time on top. But I want to steam 12 buns at once! :-(

Someone with experience using these bamboo steamers please tell me there's a way to make it work... or just let me know that I am hopelessly stuck with 6 buns at a time so I can get over it!
