Any kind of fruit or berry cobbler would be appropriate with your menu. I have to also suggest banana pudding - a million Southerners made me do it - which is made with a cookie called Vanilla Wafers, homemade (vanilla) custard, sliced bananas, and meringue on the top. That is what every pork barbecue place serves for dessert - it is a law, I think. Homemade banana pudding is wonderful! Non homemade is abominable.....

Another suggestion is lemon icebox pie - so yummy! Do you have sweetened condensed milk in Canada, eh? I'll link to a good recipe, the only one I use.

She's my favorite, no one sings like Patsy Cline. I have a poster from her last show. We saw "A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline" in Charlottetown, PEI a few years ago. We really enjoyed it.

Patsy Cline grew up in Winchester, Virginia (Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival) so don't forget the apples.

Banana pudding

I'd do ribs OR brisket....or smoked pork butt....no need for2 kinds of meat. But you need some greens and Angel biscuits.....definitly angel biscuits!

Buttermilk Refrigerator Rolls
1 Package dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup melted butter
4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
2 cups buttermilk
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl. Let sit 5 minutes. Stir in butter
Combine dry ingredients; add to yeast mixture along with buttermilk.
Stir well. Turn dough out on a floured surface, knead gently a few times and shape into a ball. Place in greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate until needed. Keeps for one week.
Break off a soft ball sized lump of dough and roll into a circle about 1/4" thick. Cut into pie shaped wedges and roll up from the wider edge into crescent shapes. You do not have to let them rise again.
Bake on greased baking sheet at 400 for 8-10 minutes

And yes nanner pudding would be authentic....but if you have anyone adverse to bananas better make a coconut cake or peach cobbler.
One place serves their banana pudding in a mason jar........Cocktails might be good served that way too!!

I'd rather have plain mac and cheese without the meat, but also add baked beans to the menu. I use the B&M brand beans with an extra splash of BBQ sauce, baked uncovered for 30 minutes, and they are close to what I grew up with in Memphis.

Banana pudding was the first thing that came to mind from a purely reflexive response, but I hate it. There are a bazillion Southern desserts that would be so much better.

Everything on your menu sounds perfect. I would recommend peach or blackberry cobbler for dessert, or you could just have brownies with ice cream - see Hog Heaven menu link below. I had a roommate in college from Nashville and a best friend from Memphis. They seemed like very different cities and they certainly have very different music. I'm not a fan of country music, but I do like Patsy Cline, and she was considered a crossover artist, sort of like Brenda Lee.

Heart of Dixie Pecan Pie

One batch Sweet Pastry Dough, for a 1-crust pie

Filling
1 cup dark corn syrup
3/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons butter
3 large eggs
Pinch salt
2 tablespoons Bourbon
2 cups pecan halves or pieces, or a combination
Prepare and chill the dough.

For the filling, combine corn syrup and sugar in saucepan and stir to mix. Place over low heat and bring to a boil, without stirring. Remove from heat, add butter and allow butter to melt. In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs to break up and whisk in salt and Bourbon. Whisk in syrup and butter mixture, being careful not to over mix. Allow to cool while preparing bottom crust.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and set a rack in the lowest level. For the bottom crust, lightly flour the work surface and the dough and roll it to a 12-inch disk. Fold the dough in half and place it in the pan; unfold the dough and press it firmly into the pan. Trim away all but 1/2-inch excess dough at edge of pan. Fold dough under and flute edge.

Arrange pecans in crust. Skim foam from top of filling (or the top will have an unattractively mottled surface) and pour over pecans. With the back of a fork, press the pecans down into the filling so that they are immersed.
Bake the pie for about 45 minutes, until the crust is baked through and the filling is set and well puffed in the center. Cool the pie on a rack and serve warm or at room temperature.

Note: I always add more pecans to the recipe. I like more pecans than filling in my pie.

Forgot too say that your cheater baked beans would be great with your menu. We love them and Patsy Cline too! : )

David's notes: I add another 1/2 cup of pecans to this recipe, all the recipes I've tried call for 1 1/2 to 2 cups of pecans, I like a little more than that in mine. This guy is a great baker, I love his recipes.

I live 2 hours from Nashville. You are good with pulled pork sandwiches, ribs, both with barbeque sauce, cole slaw (mayonnaise based), baked beans, and banana pudding or peach cobbler.

I will add angel biscuits and my cheater baked beans...why didn't I thing of that! LOL ....and omit the pulled pork from the mac and cheese.

I made the pulled pork for Easter weekend and still have some left that's why I was putting it in the mac and cheese but maybe I'll make the angel biscuits and put the pulled pork in a bowl and people can eat or ignore!

I'm still mulling about dessert. I'll ask himself , when he gets his sorry a$$ out of bed, whether he wants the banana pudding or the pecan pie.....ain't no peaches worth eating in Haliburton in April!

Don't let people overeat to the point of discomfort; after all, you want them to have Sweet Dreams. Also, watch the alcohol consumption. If they overindulge to the point they can't drive, you might end up with a bunch of people Walkin' After Midnight.

Patsy Cline trivia: Willie Nelson, of course, wrote 'Crazy'. But it was so unlike the standard country songs of the day (it's more of a bluesy torch song than a country song) he really wasn't really sure if it was up to Patsy's standards. The story goes that he drove to her house and stayed in the car, having someone else bring in the music to her to see if she liked it. She did, of course, and it went on to become the megahit it is. (I think I read somewhere that it is the #1 jukebox song of all time.) Every time that song is played on the radio, Willie gets some $ in royalties; that adds up.

I like both hers and his version of that song. What geniuses both Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson were/are.

I'm sorry your show was canceled, too, but your dinner party sounds like great fun. I bet the guests will be glad they missed the show and got to visit you for a dinner party!

Peach Cobbler Dump Cake and it's a tried and true recipe with my family
1 (18.25-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (32-ounce) can sliced peaches in heavy syrup
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
Ground cinnamon for sprinkling
Vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream for accompaniment
Preheat oven to 375*F (190*C).
Pour peaches along with the syrup into the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle evenly with the dry cake mix and press down firmly. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Sprinkle top lightly with cinnamon.
Bake for 45 minutes. Serve warm or cool with vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream if desired.
Makes 12 servings.

I also like Patsy Cline, I'm sorry the show was cancelled. "Crazy" is one of the lullabies that Ashley always liked, LOL. Fitting, I guess, she made me a little crazy most of the time. I sing it to Madison now, along with "Cry me a River". Elery cracks up, says my choice of lullabies is interesting.

Anyway, I can't help with a southern dessert, but my southern guy says fruit cobbler would be his choice, probably blackberry, but that most likely in his family would be banana pudding. He'd take the pie over either of them but says they didn't really serve pecan pie much in his area of Tennessee/Kentucky.

You are correct. oreilles de crisses is more Quebec and Chase is in Toronto.

Speaking of Patsy Cline and things French, I am not sure if Patsy sang "Cry Me A River", but "Cry Me A River" has a French version "Pleurer de rivieres". Linked below.

I like Julie London's version of "Cry Me a River", which is featured in the Jayne Mansfield movie, The Girl Can't Help It, one of my favorite all time movies. As a child, I was very much drawn to Julie London's album covers.

Pecan pie is very traditional in Texas, but that's because pecans are everywhere in Texas. I learned to appreciate pecans much more after I left Texas.
