What Brand of Washer and Dryer Would You Recommend?
Comments (3)Trudysmom, thank you for finally posting in the right place. Now, however, you should grab a cup of coffee or tea or pop and sit down at your computer and start paging through the 67 pages of recommendations, warnings, and so on, in this forum. Many people have already posted their findings and their experiences; you should take advantage of them. It will be extremely difficult for us to make any recommendations for you or even to guess because you have given us no idea of your budget or any special requirements you may have (have to be able to wash king-sized comforters every week; DH is a mechanic; you live far from a big city; etc.). By the time you empty your cup or glass, you should be able to identify your must-haves, what you might want to spend, etc. One limiting factor for you -- and, therefore, a starting point -- may be which brands you can buy and have serviced locally. There's little point in buying a top-of-the-line gold-plated German Zaubermann if no one within 300 miles of you can sell or service it. Check your locals phone book's yellow pages and maybe make a few calls to find out which brands are carried in your area....See MoreLG washer/dryer - are they recommended?
Comments (51)I have a LG set I purchased in 2011. I have become very unhappy with this pair. I have taken all of the advice I have received here regarding my washer, and I do not like the machine at all. If a load of towels or similar type of laundry is not absolutely perfectly distributed, it will not spin. It typically adds 10 minutes or more to a cycle trying to balance the load during a spin. As far as rinsing goes, I have learned I have to frequently use the water plus option or add the extra rinse option to get well rinsed laundry. I do not use too much detergent...I figured out long ago that you must follow the directions carefully when using HE detergents or there will be issues. Like all FL machines, you use fabric softener at your own peril because mold will build up rather quickly in the dispenser area, and this LG is worse than my previous Kenmore was. Consequently I seldom use the Downey I used to love to use and when I do, I use a very small amount mixed with warm water. Luckily I always empty the dispenser at the end of my using the machine for a day so I have yet to develop a smell of mildew. I do regularly use a washer cleaner and always do at least one hot wash with bleach a week. When I first bought the pair I really liked the dryer, but I am finding now that it does not dry as well as it did when it was new. 4 years should not make that much of a difference. Maybe I am being overly judgmental towards the dryer because I dislike the washer so much but I definitely notice degradation in the drying process. If I were to choose a FL washer again, it would not be a LG model. I am intrigued by Speed Queen. I have about a year to go and will see what the market has available at the time. This LG has soured me completely on FL machines unless I find one that seems to offer me what I want a washer to be....See MoreDog Hair: Would this ruin a brand new Electrolux Washer/Dryer?
Comments (10)Nahhh...mistreating these machines would be if you put some bricks in there and ran it through a cycle...dog hair or cotton fuzz not so much. Buy the way...did you run your "Installation Cycle"? (Page 12 of the Installation Instruction Manual). You may want to (if you can) shake out heavily covered items with animal hair outside first so you don't have so much hair left in the machine (this is where classic high water level top loaders excel). As you play with your washer and learn how each cycle works (some cycles may use more water), you can use those cycles to wash the doggie items or heavy fuzzy items. I wish ALL front load washers had a "Water Plus" option to help with really dirty or "fuzzy" items to help wash/rinse these types of things away. I've written to Electrolux and they don't see the need for the added feature for additional water use....See MoreBuying first washer/dryer! Recommendations?
Comments (8)Can you tell us your ballpark budget? I too prefer a front loader, but the thing I require the most in a washer is an onboard heater. Without one, it is unlikely your water will ever be really hot enough for tougher stains and dirt by the time the water gets to the washer from your hot water heater. And, if you live in a colder climate, like I do, where incoming water temps in winter can be in the upper 30s-low 40s, this becomes a bigger problem as the pipe carrying the water to the washer is very cold as well. Onboard water heater worth any additional amount you might pay, IMHO....See Morekygirl99
