need opinion on this kitchen remodel

We have already picked out the colors and layout of our granite/cabinets with our cabinet maker. I have having second thoughts about the color scheme for the cabinets above the cooktop. (it will have large corbels and a shelf along with cabinets above that open) We have a center island that we are keeping the Black Galaxy granite that we already have and wanted to use the light color wood for the wood part of the center island. The remainder of the cabinets would be the darker color with the Pegasus granite for the other counter tops. We tried to make the mantel area incorporate both colors and the cabinet maker helped us by saying the cabinet part would be the lighter color wood matching the center island but we would incorporate the darker color by having the corbels, the mantel shelve and the crown molding be darker. I am just second guessing that decision and was thinking maybe that whole area should be light or dark, not both. I am trying to figure out how to post a picture so I will attempt that next...

I noticed on AJ Madison that Blomberg is coming out with a 30" counter depth fridge with ice maker. It's pretty, and I like the freezer layout, but of course it has no reviews, since it's not even available until next month. Runs about $1600 if you catch one of their sales. marie, I would def have the rough-in work for the island done now. Since you have access through the basement (is it finished?) you can just leave the capped runs waiting in the joist space below your future island. Welcome back! Sandy

I like the inspiration pic in the Domino magazine a lot. So, if you kept your windows sitting on the shelf (are we thinking about 15" off the counter or so??), this would allow for a really cool tilebacksplash (or stainless, or whatever you had in mind) and save some $$$ of not having to tile the whole wall. How wed are you to two sinks? this would be a place to save a lot of money, between the sink itself, the faucet, the extra work to template and cutout your countertop, the extra plumbing work, the extra garbage disposal (if you have one). This would probably add up to the price of putting in the new windows. In my kitchen I considered a prep sink but my space is not big enough for it... there was really nowhere to put it, except the island which would have meant not having the MW in the island, or not having the bank of draws that are the most useful in my whole kitchen. BUT, if I had the space, I would have LOVED to have a prep sink. just something else for you to consider. btw, there is something a little awkward about the Domino ktichen's hood... seems too high and the shelf from the range, combined with the shelf on the wall, combined with the hood being up so high is a little off to me, BUT I love the feel of the kitchen.

I apologize for the confusion on my posting the pictures....it looks like my descriptions didn't transfer so I wanted to explain that the first picture is of the drawing of the kitchen, the other 2 are the colors and the last is a picture of what I was trying to accomplish with the color scheme and blending in the dark and light color stains. So my center island will be light withe the black granite, the perimeter cabinets will be dark with the granite that I am showing the sample of, I have black appliances with a black silgranite sink. The part I am questioning is the area above the cooktop. Under the cooktop would be the dark cabinets, above the cooktop would be light with the dark as accents which would be the wood for the mantel, the corbels and the crown molding. I am just having second thoughts on it and was thinking it could look really good or horrible. Thanks so much!
