Contact your Doctor ASAP. There are medications to help with the vomiting and diarhhea.

absolutely call your doctor you will be super dehydrated even though you drink you need meds to stop the vomiting and diarrhea.
I keep handy the prescription med for vomiting since my last serious bout that had me hospitalized I will never be with out it in my home. They have a version that you put under your tongue that dissolves and that way you don't take it and vomit it back up.

I called my doctor and she confirmed over the phone that there isn't much to do but wait it out and keep hydrated. There's a huge outbreak of this in my town, as well as the seasonal flu. She said it typically is lasting 7 days; I'm on day 6. If I'm not feeling substantially better in two days then I should make an appointment.

You're doing what you can do. While yes, it's a good idea to contact the clinic, there is not much they can really do about it. And the clinics, ERs and Urgent Care centers are packed with people who insist on going in, the bulk of which are just taking time away from people who need attention.

As with most anything the big thing is to watch for dehydration. That's nothing to mess around with. Follow the directions they've given you, rest, drink and wait it out. Stay home if possible to avoid spreading it. You'll be talking 2-3 weeks to really get over it.

I had a minor bout of it. Went to urgent care a few hours after it started because I couldn't stop vomiting. They gave me a shot of Phenergan, which helped a lot, and a prescription for anti-nausea pills. I had already started to get dehydrated because I couldn't keep anything down. Thankfully, I was mostly over it after 24 hours, though I didn't feel like eating solid food, except a few crackers, for three days. DH got it several days later while on a business trip. He also went to urgent care & got the same Phenergan shot & prescription. His lasted a little longer than mine, but it's now been 48 hours and he is much better.

When I get any kind of stomach bug (or even when I had morning sickness) I drink Ginger Ale and munch cold raw carrots. Seems they help, at least they "stay down". Good luck anyone who is ill!

Drink way more than you think you need. It is amazing how quickly you can become dehydrated when ill and nauseous. Just your night sweats alone are depleting your body fluids. I sure hope you feel better soon, you sound miserable.

Thanks all. Day 8 now. I am better, although still not sleeping much due to headaches. They may be rebound headaches from all the pain medication I've been taking this week. Nausea is gone, and in fact I have an appetite and keep fantasizing about things I never eat, like fast food/Big Macs. I'm keeping to my BRAT diet, however, which is recommended (bananas, rice, apples or applesauce, toast) with a bit of probiotic yogurt thrown in. Am sipping water all day and had a gatorade or two (but I really hate the stuff--reminds me of the colonoscopy a few years ago).

I saw on the news last night--NBC, I think--that the outbreak of stomach "flu" is now widespread across the country, coupled with the seasonal flu. I was actually told by my doctor that it is better not to come in for fear of getting the seasonal flu on top of this one. What a year!

Hopefully the worst of it is over. Appetite coming back is a real good sign. Stay away from crowds while your immune system is weakened.

ours started just after christmas...thanks be had a flu shot but still have the cough, and snotty nose...my ribs are tender, and still doing decongestant stuff...we had one man here in mi that died in 3 days..omg...

I had that stomach thing just after Thanksgiving, so I feel for you Marita and others. I didn't eat for 3 days. I agree that Gatorade is nasty tasting but it's supposed to help. And after all of that, I didn't lose one darned pound!
