Wise moves for each system in my opinion. Fine to keep the 4TXC coil - in fact I'd prefer a Trane coil over a third party one.

Thanks guys, I just realized something. The HP is only single stage. Does that matter much? I see the next model that has two stage is XL16i and I bet that's a pretty penny. Will the dehumidify on demand feature on the HW IAQs still function with single stage HP? Need to make sure I don't screw this up. :)

I really have no idea what they'd try to charge you for these upgrades. But do let us know if you can. Heat pump cost more to the dealer due to added controls/components. As would the 2 stage variable speed furnaces. I'm going to throw out what I would expect the upgrade costs to be (to be reasonable), but I do imagine that they will throw in their typical upcharges so they can gouge you. I'm not a pro, but based on everything I've seen and heard, I think my estimates are within range.

Heat pumps: $600 each -> $1200
Furnaces: probably same as above --> $1200
Air Filters: $300 each -> $600
Thermostats: These are pricey models. $300 each -> $600

Overall, they're probably going to try to push another $4000 out of you the buyer. Let us know what they say. While you may not have much room for negotiation at all in your case, it's good to go in there with a bit of knowledge.

No I do not recommend the XL16i, it's been problematic for Trane. You would have to go up to the XL20i which has 2 compressors.

and yes the XR15 with the variable speed furnace and IAQ will do fine with humidity control.
the installer should disable trane's comfort R, and then set up humidity control through the IAQ thermostat.

Keep in mind there is nothing wrong with comfort R for humidity control. It's just the IAQ can give you a little better control on it.

I'm in Va beach, VA. Not the coldest winters but a few weeks below 40 at most in any given year. I have no idea what the electric rate is here. We use Dominion Va power and Virginia natural gas.

of course, there is no tax credit for new construction except geo.

I would install an XV80 with matching HP downstairs.

upstairs, HP with VS air handler and heat strip.

use HW VP IAQ stats.

4-5" box filters for both systems.

make certain dealer includes properly sized returns for both upstairs and downstairs systems.

Thanks Tiger! It's a 1 story house with a only a FROG. One unit does one side of the house with the Master Bedroom, and two bedrooms. The other one does the bulk of the house with TV Room, Dining room, kitchen, frog, and another bedroom.

yes dual fuel on both or perhaps one properly sized system with zoning controls.

dealer of course must have demonstated experience using zoning controls.

you do have a certain amount of redundancy with two systems though. weigh the costs.
