31 cents a scoop

I just got a notification from a friend. Went to the website and checked it out.

It's true.. Baskin-Robbins is doing a 31 cent scoop night tomorrow April 30 from 5-10 pm.

It's for an honorable cause!

That sounds great to me I have a Baskin Robins right down the hill. I had just read this morning that it is Ben & Jerry's 30 Birthday and so today (4/29) is free ice cream cone day.
Let's all scream Ice-Cream...

We don't have a Ben and Jerry's near by..are they only an East Coast store location?

I'm not sure I've even ever had any Ben and Jerry's..I mean they sell it in the stores...but I've don't recall ever buying any.

Anyone else scooping up those fall bargains at Lowe's/HD?

I have both Lowes and HD maybe 10 minutes away from me. They're like Burger King and Mcdonalds here, they have one in every corner!! But they're prices don't come down, If anything they seem to be going up. I remember last year I could find a 8 inch hoya hanging basket for $8 and now they're $15. HD has much cheaper prices than Lowes right now. HD 8 inch baskets are $10, 5 dollars more for the same plant at Lowes. Of course compare to buying on-line they're definitely bargains.

Value of old ice cream scoops !! and hair curlers
Q

Someone here posted that Gilcrest scoop....and got a bundle on eBay...I mean like $275 or something....and they didn't even have the box! The square "scoop" was for ice cream and cake serving....I haven't seen a server like that in years and years! The curlers, I believe are earlier than 1930....they were heated over an oil lamp or on the stove....and not worth much.... And they could and would fry your hair if you got them too hot! Linda C

wolf ag vs bluestar and cleanup, my DW wants the real scoop
Q
Comments (30)
We have had our BS RNB 30 for about 5 years now. I have occasionally wondered if I wouldn't have been happier with a Wolf, but overall I have been pleased with the Bluestar. Here's a short list of what I like...and don't like: Like: The huge oven and the way it bakes. I'm so glad I didn't buy a dual fuel or self cleaning oven. When I was looking at ranges, I asked a pastry chef friend of mine if I should get a dual fuel. She snorted and said, "What do you think they use in restaurant kitchens?" The answer would be gas. I bake lots of cakes and they come out beautifully. I have convection, but I rarely use it. The baking is very even without it. I was accustomed to cleaning electric ovens, which is a pain. Cleaning this one is incredibly easy. You can just pop out the bottom panel and clean it...or clean it in place. The open burners (I have never seasoned the grates and I throw them in the dishwasher.) The open burners have a lot of power and if I spill something, which I often do, it just goes in the flat pan below, which is incredibly easy to clean. The lack of fancy electronics. I specifically wanted a gas stove so we could cook in the event of a power outage. The power went out once when I was in the middle of cooking dinner. I was able to proceed as if nothing had happened. What I would change: I would like to have wheels on the range, so I can easily pull it out to clean the floor. I think Wolf has those? I would very much like to see better customer service. I had to replace the ignition module (we did it on our own) and I could never get BlueStar people to return calls so I could order the part. I ended up ordering from AllVikingparts.com and following the very useful instructions by people on this forum. I would like to see more attention given to fit and finish. It would seem that the structure that supports the iron grates is not strong enough. As a result, our grates don't sit quite level anymore. I had to re-order a burner knob because the numbers were all coming off, even though I had never scrubbed it or used harsh cleaning agents. When I received the new one, I noticed that the numbers (which are silk-screened on the knob) come off easily with a light scratch of the finger nail. And since there are no indentations for the numbers, once they're gone, they're gone. Also, the new knob didn't quite fit. I called Bluestar about this and they promised to send a return call tag. They never did, and I eventually chiseled away at it a bit so it would fit. I don't know how the customer service is at Wolf, but at Bluestar it's abysmal. The only upside is that hopefully you won't need them often. The only other thing I constantly want with the Bluestar (and I don't know if other stoves have this either) is variable adjustments in the rack placement. This is particularly the case with broiling, where I often feel like the top rack position is too close, but the second one is too far away. In short, I like the stove and I'm not sorry I bought it. I'm just sorry to see that the company doesn't support their customers the way they should, particularly since GardenWeb seems to have done most of their marketing for them.

No Baskins & Robbins within a 100 miles of me according to their website. :(

We do have B&Js though. I don't like ice cream but DH loves Cherry Garcia so I'll let him know. Thanks, happytime!

We've got a Ben & Jerry's here in Eugene, but I've never been in, only peered through the window after they were closed. :) I'll have to remember to check them out, but I may wait until tomorrow and pay for the cone rather than deal with the crowds!

We have a BR 60 miles away and the only Ben & Jerry's I have been to was in Las Vegas or on a cruise ship. I love ice cream, a couple of years ago we stopped in a little ice cream shop in Tucumari, N.M. and they had the best marachino cherry ice cream. A few months later we were passing through again and I couldn't wait to stop and get some of that ice cream. They didn't have it, it was a seasonal thing the clerk said. Just my luck!

That's a good deal. The nearest Ice Cream parlor to me is Cold Stone and I really like being able to pick what goes into the ice cream and then watch it be pressed in!

I'll second the Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia... my ultimate comfort food. When I need a pick me up, I'll eat a whole tub of the stuff! Terri, if you've never had it, you simply must!

Neither one around here...which is probably good since I like B&J. Their Caramel Sutra is delicious. The peach cobbler's not bad either. :)

Carp! BR is right onthe corner by my office so that would be a perfect lunch. Pass it onthe way hometoo, but that is around 4:15. Do I work later? Find one near my house?

I never have ice cream in the house, it is crave thing for me and after that it gets frosty in the freezer. Now i have a major crave going. Double chocolate anything.

drat, no BR near me. They closed all the ones that were in the Dunkin Donuts.

If you haven't had B&J, you MUST. simply the best ice cream. I'm bummed I missed free cone day. Sometimes they do it on mother's day and one year when I was pregnant--they gave 2 cones if you were expecting! LOL!

I finally tried Cold Stone and thought it was the biggest waste of money ever!! Totally tasteless--I've had better supermarket ice cream. Plus, Steve Herrell (of Steve's and now Herrell's) did the smoosh-ins first (and better) back in the 70's...

But my favorite ice cream is at little local homemade places....

Ben & Jerry's started in Vermont & it's like a cult here in New England. Even our Chow Chow (Blackjack) before she went to the Rainbow Bridge loved to go to B&J's. She recognized the signs, or something, & every time we drove past one she'd start barking. Too funny! Of course she never would have done that had we not stopped more than once & gotten her a little dish of ice cream. :( She'd stick her nose in that paper dish & scoot it all around the pavement making sure to get every last bit. Fond memories.

Oh, Tricia, that story is too cute! :)

I had a friend who went to MIT in the 80s. I remember her telling me about the mix-in ice cream shops "on every corner....like bars or taverns in other places, but here it's ice cream instead of booze!". I got a coupon for a freebie at Coldstone when I moved here. It's...well...it was free so I got what I paid for. They've since closed.

In Durham NC, there used to be an indy called Francesca's. The BEST ice cream. Wonder if it's still there....

Well Terri, thanks for the hot scoop! We hung out in a long line tonight for our delicious ice cream. My personal choice was the lemon custard and it was very refreshing. Of course last night we had to have some Ben and Jerry's to celebrate their anniversary. (Coffee Heath Bar.) I just love being an active participant!

The Ben & Jerry's I know of is on Coburg Road, by the Verizon and Baja Fresh (between Harlow and Oakmont). It's pretty small and tucked into the corner there. According to Google maps, we have two more, one on Alder and one on Willamette. Who knew!?! :)

bean there--we New Englanders love our ice cream!! :-) I saw a study once that said we eat the most ice cream per capita every year.

for a while there in the 80's, everyone tried to imitate Steve's with the smoosh-ins and shops did pop up on every corner!

I lived in Burlington for a while (home turf of Ben and Jerrys) and there was always a huge line at the shop, even in the dead of winter.

Well, we hit BR on the way home from DD's dance class, I was impressed with the organization of the store but disappointed with the ice cream. They had all the flavors printed out so people could choose while waiting in line. I guess we're spoiled because anything that's not good gelato doesn't cut it for us anymore. I got Espresso & cream, it was grainy and had ice crystals in it. But hey, it was a good little promotion

Well, I missed it entirely. No Baskin Robbins here anyway, the closest is Grand Rapids, and no Ben and Jerry's anywhere in the state that I know of. There's a ColdStone in Grand Rapids too, but Ashley got one scoop with a couple of add ins and it was $5 plus change. I was appalled and have never gone back.

Even the little dairy bar here in town is closed and up for sale.

Hey, but I have that Cuisinart ice cream maker...
