I forgot to mention that the cabinet to the left of the range will be split by an interior divider. The left of that cabinet will house a trash pullout and the right side will house baking pans, cutting boards, etc. Mabeld: The tile is is 1x2 off set brick and can be found via the link below. I haven't seen it in person and will do so before I buy what I need but I love that it allows you to pull any color. I didn't want to be stuck to a certain color and feel that I can paint the walls just about any color. Palimpset: Yes, the 1/2 wall will stay. I looked last night at how to post pdf and I must have missed it. Before my first post, I read every post starting at the last page and worked my way to the beginning to be sure I didn't ask a question that had already been asked. It took me about 2 weeks to go through them all. I have to say I have impressed the kitchen designer with my knowledge and terminology and I owe it all to GW! I am loving the Clippings aspect of GardenWeb. I have enclosed the measurements and an updated plan of the 30x60 peninsula. I also did take inventory of my kitchen and matched up the items to the cabinets and have 3 cabinets empty! We also have a closet in the basement where I keep the less used sm appliances, punch bowl, platters, etc. The Shiloh brand makes their upper cabs 13" deep to compensate for the inset and I am hoping that will be fine. My plates are 11". Rhome: The black cabinets will be the peninsula which will have either a wood top to match our wide pine floors (to be installed in kitchen to match rest of 1st floor) or a stainless steel top to match the appliances/sink/pulls/knobs. rhome 410 - 4 currenty in the household -- DH and I and kids 14 and 17. We all tend to eat at different times and have a casual lifestyle. Almost always only one person cooking in the kitchen at a time. Rarely entertain except occasional family holidays or visits. Not much cooking from scratch. Cooktop will be induction. Oven will probably be one regular oven and an Advantium. Very rarely any baking, more likely to cook a meal for 1 or 2 people. Everyone usually makes their own meals with some exceptions (DH and I might eat the same thing, for example). blfenton - You are correct about people walking through to get to breakfast room (although they will probably eat at the bar most of the time based upon history at our last house). But we will have people walking through any way. That is, as it is now, people will walk through kitchens to get to the breakfast area to go to the kids' bedrooms. Main reason to move would be to perhaps lessen traffic through the kitchen and perhaps save a little space if the breakfast room could then be smaller (we are about 100 sf larger overall than the max we wanted to be)

Your description of how you cook (or not) sounds like us. I like the idea of a second micro in the pantry. Just get a small one to conserve space..... For us, our pantry micro is conveniently located near the fridge (for reheating. ;)) It's also convenient since we micro things that are stored in the pantry itself. Overall, I think your kitchen layout looks good. RE: the cooktop butting up to the DW: We have large aisles between our island and perimeter. Our DW side has 56" (53 from the counters) and there is plenty of space to have the DW door open and cabinets open on the other side. I think others would argue they enjoy narrower walkways, but I am throwing the idea out since your family & my family cook similarly. Our kitchen/island is also oriented the same as yours.... facing the living room/TV wall. I think you could move the island up to a foot towards the living room. You didn't ask about the rest of the house, but I hope you are open to some thoughts/suggestions.... :) * Our master is next to the great room area, like yours. It is fine for normal days, but it can be loud in our room when we have guests over. If anyone sleeping in the master bedroom in your home is a light sleeper, consider making it more sound proof. We put insulation in our interior master walls, which helped. I wish we had doubled-up the sheet rock, though. From what I've read, that would also absorb some sound. Last, if your bedroom door isn't solid, consider paying a bit extra to make it solid to also absorb sound. * Along the same route, consider flipping the orientation of the second bathroom (as in ..... move the toilet/sink from the top wall to the bottom wall...... you would also have to move where the door opens, but no big deal.) I think this could help a bit with plumbing noises in your bedroom.

Thanks cpartist... yes plan was kids would use the guest bathroom. It’s really not much further than the one they use at our current house so I didn’t think it was a big deal. We’ve never had double sinks in a master... I can see the appeal but on the other hand I kind of feel like I have enough to clean already! It is a cottage so 3 bathrooms on the main floor seemed like overkill. Eventually when the kids are older they will mostly sleep downstairs and there will be a bathroom right there for them as well.
