Safe temperature for sourdough starter

We're having a heatwave here, even at the beach, and it was 88° yesterday, and almost as warm in my kitchen, where I have my sourdough starter (or mother, or whatever you call it). I read somewhere that it should not be stored above 80°, but I can't remember where I read it and what the problem is. Should I move it to the fridge when the kitchen gets hot? Or should I put it under the air conditioner, which I will probably be using again today. Our humidity is extremely low right now also. It's already 93° at the Santa Monica airport, but fortunately, I'm closer to the beach, where it is already 88° a noon! It's 83° in my kitchen.

What will happen to sourdough starter above 80°?

Lars
