good quote on new Trane system???

Hello everyone,

I need a new AC unit for my upstairs or risk a divorce. I plan on going from a 1 1/2 ton unit to a 2 ton (too hot in Atlanta).

I received a quote from Trane on the following (XR15/60k btu XV80):

Condensor = 4ttr5024

Furnance = tud060r9v3k

Coil = 4txcb031

stat = th8321u1006

installed with taxes, etc. = $6,657

Is this a good system and decent price?

while the cooling BTUs for a two ton are about 10% short, it probably doesn't matter since you are going up in size. I do recommend that your ductwork be checked to verify it can handle the extra cooling BTUs.

you also should re-check the evap coil model number-probably one of these below.

nice systems, price seems reasonable.either qualifies for tax credit.

I don't know about the coil. Yes, new refrigerant lineset. He looked at the ductwork and said it was OK. There are special filters they offer, an $1100 one for allergies and a $400 one. I don't think we're getting either so I guess we'll just be using the traditional furnace filter? Don't know exactly what stat but he did say we'd be getting a new one that is 7-day programmable. He did recommend the XV furnace however he said if the cost was too high we could do the XR or the XB.

You're welcome. Sounds like you're dealing with a good, responsive company; however there is just confusion with the model numbers. TUD060R9V3 - not communicating, XV80 TUD2B060ACV3 - communicating, XC80 Seems to be some minor confusion. I would get in writing that you're getting an all-communicating system and the XC80 furnace. I think the TCONT900 even requires the communicating indoor unit (XC80) to work, so you should be set there. Just explain to him that on the website you are seeing different model numbers. Follow the link I attached below, and click on the tab/link that says "XC80 variable-speed, 2-stage upflow/horizontal furnace models." -- It will show you the model numbers. Likewise you can see that the TUD060R9V3 is indeed just an XV80.

Thank you for the attention. Yes I got the model numbers from a quote. I'm bummed to hear they are not a good match. That's why I love gardenweb though. I do not understand how to use the AHRI directory. Tigerdunes - I'm replacing a 5/3 split. 80% furnance because the install of a 90% (particularly the pvc vent) is problematic in this location, and if I'm going dual-fuel heat pump then I shouldn't be using the furnace that much anyway, right? I have a load calc on a different company's letterhead (last year). Cooling capacity is accurate, heating is a bit of overkill on the 3-ton side but I think that's because the furnace is being sized to the AC not the load. Reviewing the audit results from last year I think I will get more mileage improving insulation and sealing duct work than buying fancy equipment - it might even let me downsize from a 5-ton to a 4-ton. If you send me an email address I could share the energy audit if you want to see the numbers. Half of the house is over a concrete-lined crawspace. Trying to decide if it's worth spending ~$1500 to have it sealed. Humidity (especially in the basement) has been a problem this summer. so I'm thinking the answer may be "yes" but I don't have infinite money to spend on this...

Thank you very much, Mike. I was hoping you'd respond & were closer to Monmouth County. I'm in eastern Monmouth County but not beach town. My neighbor downstairs who bought the NJNG system gave me copy of her paperwork. They had "special" which says she got furnace for "free" with purchase of Trane XR13 A/C. I wouldn't tell her I thought overall cost of $5,500. was an awful lot for just that A/C model if that was predicate for getting "free furnace". When I looked on Trane web site it said the XR13 a/c unit is 2nd from bottom offered. Nothing wrong with that if you have set amount to spend for okay performance but I get bad feeling when they seemingly dupe people with "free furnace" language. When I asked about matching A/C & Furnace, as I've seen on manufacturer web sites, the salesman said "they're all made by the same company". I know there are only a handful of OEM corporations but if a company says this matches that I'd think they should quote that way. If there's one thing my late father taught me....ask questions, get answers in writing, compare written info and don't believe BS sales pitches. I do my best to follow his sage advice but it's taken me a while to figure out HVAC components & what their specs mean. He used to take care of making inquiries of this kind for me. I was spoiled by a great father! I know I don't need a gold-plated system but want to get best I can for reasonable cost. I went through my later father's files & found name of independent HVAC company he used for years (for sizable center hall Colonial) after much investigation and comparison. They're sending someone over on Wed. to review situation & give proposal(s) for couple options. Don't know if it matters to people more familiar with HVAC but their installers are NATE certified which I believe requires continuing education. Hopefully they already got common sense at birth! It didn't dawn on me until later that my outdoor utility room must have some insulation because it also holds the hot water heater and pipes which don't have external insulation but haven't frozen in 27 years. A condensate pan under furnace is probably more prone to freezing due to lower depth & possibility of other things freezing along the way. I just know it's not very cold in there during winter but one could presume that's because the furnace is blasting! It's difficult for me to deal with a tradesman once I get a feeling I'm being given a blatant pitch or blown off for asking questions. Every purchaser can't be well versed in HVAC so I'd think a lot of people ask lots of questions. Thanks again for your help. Stay afloat with heavy rains out your way. Leslie

Here is what I recently got quote for a Trane XR15 System in TX.

Cond: 4TTR5024E1
Evap: 4TXCB025BC3
Furac: TVD1A040A9H2 (unsure first 3 letters)
Includes labor, new supply plenum, thermostate... $4420. I have been told that it is a certified tax credit. So, I can get around $1200 tax credit. I currently have 2.5 ton 10 SEER 14 years old Bryant. Is it Ok if I go for this new Trane which only has 2 ton but with 16 SEER rating? Any suggestion on Evap Coil, thermostat? Thanks.

The system quoted puts you just short of the tax credit. You need to change evap coils or change furnaces to utilized the credit. For whatever strange reason, the same var speed furnace is available in a communicating model that will qualify w/ the quoted coil and cond unit. The dealer can set the furnace up for 24 volts. The 048 coil tiger mentioned is pretty large for a two ton and I try not to use the new Trane 002/004/etc coils if another is available. Trane increased the fins per inch on these coils which can cause the coils to get dirty quicker. Proper filter changes can make it a moot point.

Hung, you'll get better advice if you start your own thread.

Looks like a good system -- not a variable speed furnace, but has a high efficiency blower motor.

Pricing is good...almost a bit too good to be true but every area is different.

Baldloonie is the expert and he makes a good point.

While the 803 stat is OK, it handles dehumidification in AC mode by overcooling. The HW VisionPro IAQ has "DOD" feature "dehumidify on demand" independent of the thermostat setting.

So if humidity is a factor for this system's living area, then the IAQ stat should be considered. You can expect an additional cost for the upgrade.

They'll probably try to tell you there's not a big difference between the thermostat they're installing and the IAQ model. That's usually how it goes.
