I think it's even more detailed than that. You can select for each person what kind of update you are shown. Then you can go to your preferences and choose not to see people's stories about games they played and/or block aps that you don't use that keep showing up with news stories. Tell him to poke around in the preferences/settings as well as "editing" that particular person. Unfortunately, there's no way to block some of the stuff, like "I'm going to bed now." And "I just ate some toast that didn't agree with me." Ugh! I hate these kinds of posts.

deb what you want is listed as an app but it does not function as advertised and instead collects data on you and your friends only. as jodi mentioned any app that would ever function that way would definitely have the ability to disable being found out. FB eats up an already insane amount of storage space and i doubt they will ever have the true ability to trace searches as that would require every search be stored and able to be referenced. the amount of space requirred for that is not possible on any free service. it is also my understanding they, FB, have yet to make $$ and do not project profits for yrs yet. no profits=no serious expansion. marygail what you are talking about involves the privacy settings i mentioned above. the photos you are able to see are able to be seen by friends of friends. i am psychotic about my photos, as i take what i think are fabulous pics but i do not trust anyone to have them on their website, like FB. i put up only the ones i don't care about, those of publishing quality are not up :-) not even to just friends lol and i have never posted any of those here ~ liz

Do what I did, register under a fake name but tell your friends and family who you are and make a fake birthday etc. I used my real first name so they'd know it's me and, even then, my daughter (who knew I was going to do this) asks me if I know Sheila ______ who is asking to be her friend. hahahaha when I reminded her she roared. I get no requests now. The upshot of doing this was I got 23 happy birthday posts on April 1st which is not my birthday. I thought they'd catch my joke with that date. NOT.
