anyone use direct vent for furnace?

Since the Patriots Day Storm in the Northeast, we have lost everything in the cellar. Our old furnace was in the same chimney as our woodstove, but that is now against code. So we have no chimney to use for a new oil fired furnace and hot water heater, so they are suggesting direct venting. Anyone have that and how do you like it?? We could, for $2000, make a new chimney going up thru where we have a fireplace, by closing off the fireplace and running a 5" flexible pipe up thru it. They would have to make a hole in the floor of the fireplace to the cellar and close up our fireplace. The fireplace is in our bedroom and we do not use it. This storm has messed us up....no hot water yet!!
