I did a system with an Instant Hot (IH) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) into a single faucet. The RO also feeds the freezer for the ice maker. The water is not chilled, but at room temperature. It's only a minor inconvenience, because in order to have cold water you have to either use ice or store a pitcher in the fridge. I had originally considered a water chiller too, but after doing a little research, I found that not many recommend chilled and hot into the same faucet. I think one of the few systems available was from Everpure or something like that. But it was expensive. My system is set up to flow like this: Cold Pipe->RO->Faucet Cold Line->IH->Faucet Hot Line The faucet is vented and has a third line out so it feeds the IH, instead of the RO feeding the IH. After living with my system for almost a year now, I don't have any real complaints. I've only run out of IH and RO water once. That was the first time I entertained during the holidays. I got cute and made tea with the IH while also making coffee with the RO. This was also after serving drinking water from the RO throughout the party. RO takes a few hours to replenish and the IH shouldn't be run on empty. So I had to shut off the IH. Since then, whenever I entertain, I just use a kettle to boil water for tea. Then the IH to top-off or for other cooking needs. I got my IH and RO from Costco and the faucet is a Tomlinson that it designed for RO and IH. You don't need 3 separate faucets. I have two: the main faucet I use for washing (which isn't filtered) and then a small hot/cold faucet that's hooked to the filter and the instant hot. I left the filtered cold dispenser out of my original description because it's integrated with the instant hot system. The filter faucet I have is this one, I think. The only thing I don't like about it is that the hot lever is spring-loaded as a "safety" feature, so you have to hold it down to keep the water flowing. (I put "safety" in sneer quotes because I think it's less safe to force me to keep my hand near the hot water.) I actually have a ice/water dispenser on the fridge too. It dispenses chilled water, but it comes out quite a bit more slowly than the non-chilled water from the hold/cold dispenser by the sink. I tend to use the one on the fridge for a quick glass of ice water and the one by the sink for filling pitchers and other big stuff. I didn't try hooking the main faucet up to a filter because I think it would take a big filter to maintain the water pressure and flow rate you'd want from a faucet used for washing dishes, rinsing vegetables, etc. If I have time I'll try to post some photos of what my set-up looks like from above and below the sink. I may have to do a bit of cleaning first, though. :-) Depending on how carried away you want to get, a whole-house filter is an option. My next-door neighbor the plumber re-piped his house and put a big whole-house filter and softer system in his garage. It's two sealed units about 1 foot in diameter and 4 feet high each. He says they have to be changed every 5-10 years depending on how bad the city water is. I can ask him for the brand and model number if you'd like. It looked like a big job to install, though, not a DIY project. (Even for me, and I'm not afraid of sweating copper pipes.) And I'm sure we're talking at least a couple thousand dollars for the equipment and labor. Laura

thank you, would the adapters reduce the house plumbing flow rate so that is not an issue? From my college fluid dynamics, seems that a smaller diameter makes for a faster flow rate with the same head pressure . Has anyone done this? Worried about leaks in the faucet or worse in the tubes between the tubing/adapter setup down the road.

Thanks for your photos and replies. Yes, we want the soap dispenser also. That's why we want ONE faucet for the instant hot and filtered water. That would be at least three "things" in total on the counter behind the prep sink: one faucet for instant hot and filtered water, one regular faucet, and one soap dispenser. Maybe four...disposal air switch as well? I was thinking of an undermount prep sink that is about 15" by 15" inside. I think it will work on the counter; I'm more concerned about underneath. I figure the rest of the cleaning supplies will be under the main clean-up sink and the dishwasher air gap will be there, too. Maybe I need to just buy all of the products ahead of time and see how it fits.
