Yeast question from a bread baking novice

This is probably a dumb question but...

Exactly how important is the quantity of yeast in a bread recipe? I mean, if the recipe calls for two teaspoons of yeast, will it mess it up if I add a packet which contains 2 1/4 tsp? If the recipe calls for 1 1/2 tsp, how accurate do I have to be, assuming I'm going to open a packet of yeast and try to measure out the amount I need?

I can guess that adding too little yeast will probably cause the bread not to rise as much as it should. But how will putting too much yeast in affect the bread?

As an aside, this question suddenly reminded me of the I Love Lucy episode where she tried to bake her own bread. She misread the recipe and instead of adding 3 cakes of yeast, she added 13! The bread came out of the oven as a perfectly shaped 10 foot (?) loaf which emerged forcibly from the oven pinning her to the cabinets on the opposite side of the kitchen. What a laugh!
