Cornish Pasties

I do love a good Pasty. Such a great way to use leftover roast meats. I always just made them, not using a recipe.

I had an idea the other day that they would go over quite well here at my SBSIL's house, and that I could make extra to freeze as the kids often just zap something from the microwave when they are hungry.

A couple of questions arise. Since I have no leftover roast meat to hand, I thought I'd have to cook some chuck I have first, before making the Pasties. But checking on line recipes, I see that many of them use raw. But, if I use raw potatoes (I use potatoes and turnips both) I know they'll blacken in the freezer as I don't use gravy inside the Pasty. Would blanching them suffice to prevent that?

The other question is regarding microwave heating. Usually, I freeze my pasties raw, and bake them in the oven. The kids are not going to want to wait long enough to do that, microwave-agers as they are. If I bake them first, will they heat successfully in a microwave, or will the pastry just end up soggy? I suppose that for figuring out how long to zap them, I could just look at the grocery store for some sort of frozen meat pies of similar size.

And lastly...just for fun. For those of you who enjoy Pasties, do you sauce them? I generally just eat them as they are, the vegetables providing enough moisture for me. But I know some folks use gravy, some ketchup. Actually, I might like a bit of good quality mustard, myself, I'll have to try it.
