Something different for Easter

I'm really tired of the baked ham - scalloped potatoes - asparagus kind of Easter dinner. I'd like to do something different this year. Suggestions?

Have you thought of doing lamb? New Zealand Spring Lamb shouts Easter to me...and I don't even like lamb! If not a stuffed crown roast of pork would be lovely.

Roasted herbed potatoes, butternut squash and Brussels sprouts.........but I'd do asparagus!

Lovely! I've not done much lamb before, but that menu sounds delicious.I thought about pork but have a craving for somehting different this year. :)

Very nice site, Chijim. Wish they listed the prices without us having to click on it first--would make viewing faster for me. I checked out several things that were really expensive like that hot chocolate cup for $650.00 and even some of the flower arrangements were 0ver $300. However, there were other things that were much less expensive! Fun to see, and I will go back and browse more when I have more time. Tis isn't a traditional ice cream cake, but I can absolutely vouch for it being delish! Of course, you could sub real whipped cream for the cool whip, dulce de leche for the caramel sauce, ganache for the chocolate syrup, etc... but it is pretty darn good the way it is written! I've made it both with and whout the peanuts - I prefer without, DH prefers with, so it is a toss up! Ice Cream Sandwich Cake 1 foil lasagna pan - the deep kind 2 boxes of ice cream sandwiches - usually 12 in a box (store brand works just fine) and you'll have a few leftover to stash back in the freezer. 1 12 oz. carton Cool Whip, thawed 1 jar each of Hot Fudge and Caramel ice cream topping 3/4 cup salted peanuts Cut one ice cream sandwich in half. Place one whole and one half sandwich along the short side of the ungreased pan. Arrange more sandwiches in the opposite direction in the pan; cut to fit as needed. Spread half the Cool Whip on these. Spoon or pour Caramel topping (I use about 1/2 the jar) over the Cool Whip. Sprinkle with half the peanuts. Repeat layers with more ice cream sandwiches, Cool Whip, Hot Fudge topping (nuke 15 seconds for easier consistency) and the rest of the peanuts. Cover tightly with foil and freeze. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before serving.

Do something for yourself. Time for R&R. Make a nice meal for yourself or go out and get a special meal you really enjoy whether it's a burger or lobster. Maybe watch a favorite movie or something you've wanted to see. Put on some music and go with the flow. Send some emails or make some phone calls to people you have lost touch with but want to talk to a couple minutes. (Not a 3 hour chat, but say "hello, Happy Easter, talk to you later.") Depending on the weather, fire up the grill or make a campfire. Take a drive in the country and see some sights. Maybe there's something your son has wanted to learn (how to cook something, how to ____, family background, stories of when you were growing up, etc.

I feel like consistent flooring helps a home feel larger as the space does not feel "interrupted" (FWIW our first home was an old bungalow with a tiled kitchen floor, we replaced the kitchen tile with hardwood to match the rest of the house... the next month, the realtor who sold us the house stopped by and kept asking about when we had added on to the home, bc house looked/felt SO much bigger)

This is what I am planning for my family. Mother will bring Dessert, so I don't have to worry about that!

I think we are having ham and stuffed cabbage with augratin potatoes and whatever for a veggie. Probably chocolate pie for dessert

It more screams Cinco De Mayo but I made a Taco Buffet for my family last year and they loved the break from traditional Easter fare.

This year I am doing a Prime Rib with roasted brussel sprouts and baked potato bar. Again not traditional but after Christmas we are a tad hammed and turkey'd out and my family wont do lamb so that option is out from the start.

My in-laws are serving roast beef sandwiches at noon. Later in the day my mother wants to go out to dinner. Not sure where we will end up.

Ham is an american thing. I looked up Polish and German Easter foods and the focus is on breakfast and brunch with lots of eggs and some meat like bratwurst or Kielbasa. Search your ethnic background for ideas.

There would be a revolt if I served anything other than ham for Easter. That and sweet potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw broccoli, cauliflower and of course deviled eggs....lemon meringue Pie for dessert.

Our Easter dinner was always leg of lamb with roasted potatoes. Still a favorite of mine!
