carrier furnace proposal

Need new furnace and AC. One company rec 58cv(ay135, 24ana136a30, syspvccuiolo. The other rec was 58cva090-1-14, 24apa736, systxccuido1. I tried to find these systems on line but not much luck. Which one is best?

Your dealers don't have the greatest handwriting. :)

These are pretty high end units. Are you looking for a system that will qualify for the tax credit? Either the A/C must qualify, or the furnace must be 95+ efficient. The furnace is 80% efficient (so I'm assuming you live in a climate where heat isn't a priority or this is an attic install).

The first company is quoting a 135k furnace which seems way oversized considering the second proposal includes a 90k furnace with a 3 ton a/c. They may be doing this to qualify the system for the tax credit, but I don't like this idea. I'd go with the correctly sized units.

Model numbers should be, for company one:
58CVA135-20
24ANA136

for company two:
58CVA090-1-14
24APA736
SYSTXCCUID-01

Below is a link to Carrier's page where you can look up more info on the units. Go to furnaces --> Infinity 80 and air conditioners --> Infinity 21 (1st quote) and Performance 17 (2nd quote).

first one 24ANA1 = Infinity Series Top of the Carrier line

24APA7 = Performance Series Carriers mid line.

need to know the evaporator coil for exact SEER and EER rating.

But just guessing
They probably put the 24ANA with a evap coil that gives you 19 SEER since they gave you a bigger Furnace. You may not need that big of a furnace.

and the 24APA7 with evap coil for 17 SEER

So your question the 24ANA is better but the 24APA7 is very good and may be your best fit.

have no idea what syspvccuiolo it should be SYSTXCCUID01 and that is the Thermostat Controller.

This is a very nice system. It should include the Infinity controller-accept no substitute. I would recommend a good 4-5" pleated filter media cabinet. IMO Good Luck!

I would like to see the evap coil model number for each quote. I don't like the idea of a smaller AC condenser in the Trane quote. Any hot/cold spots in TH with existing system? What exactly are you looking for in the new system? I suspect you are being oversized in the 80 K furnaces that were quoted. I would want to see a load calc both heating and cooling. Post back. IMO

Thanks Tiger and Mike Do you mean that this: 3 ton,up to 16 SEER, Puron, Performance Series, Condenser Model # 24ABC636A003 Is not a Performance model but actually a Comfort one? Do you recommend the performance over the comfort? I see your listed models above are for the comfort series. As for the second part: 3 ton, Deluxe Fixed Fan Coil with Puron, Comfort Series, Model # FX4DNF037000 Is this where I should be looking at getting a variable speed to decrease noise? This will be the unit in the attic - correct? As for returns, there will be a single return at the top of the stairs on the second floor. The layout is very open downstairs and the expectation is that warm moist air would easily rise up there and be returned. Haven't heard anything on the filtration. Good point on labor warranty. Plan to be here 20+ years. Will inquire. Thanks again. Really appreciate it (as you can tell, totally clueless on this). E

American Standard or Carrier Hybrid Heat Pump/Gas Furnace?

Hi, I'm in the midwest and have a 5100 sq ft home. I'm looking at replacing my 17 yo furnaces, 2 Carrier Weathermaker high efficiency , with electronic filtering system , (eletroair SST), two air conditioning units, one blown and one 4 years old (got 10 years out of the blown one) with a similar set up to above. Recommended by the dealer is 1 American standard 16, 2ton communicating heat pump with a Am ST. Freedom 95 60K btu, 3 stage furnace and Acculink 900 comfort controller... AND 1 Heritage 16, 3 ton communicating heat pump with Freedom 95, 80K btu, 3 stage furnace, both with the AccuClear air cleaner system. We could keep the 4 yo air conditioner for a while, and put in the extra heat pump later. We could keep the current air cleaner (the kids, who sleep near it downstairs say it cracks and pops a bit). I'm looking at getting another quote, and from the looks of it above Carrier would be the place to get another quote and opinion. The American standard dealer made a big deal about the communication between the furnace and heat pump, calling this "geothermal above ground, at 1/3 of the price". We probably could get a couple more years out of our furnace, but has needed repair a couple of times, and were told it could become a problem, which we'd like to avoid in the middle of winter. We did consider geothermal and priced that out last year, and just felt the retrofit wasn't worth the bother. A contractor friend recommended that future high efficiency furnaces would make the geothermal unnecessary, at least for retrofitting. Any opinions out there?

look at the furnace size difference. that's a huge amount.

what size furnace are you replacing?

depending on what you have now and your location, I would be more concerned about the furnace as opposed to the AC condenser which BTW both are nice units.
