I've always been curious about them, Lynn. What do they do that a blender and food processor wouldn't do? They must be pretty unique to justify the cost.......they've been around for a long time.

I have one. I LOVE it. I use it to make green smoothies because the Vitamix can blend in greens with the fruit so well that you can't taste them so you can get a lot more nutrition in. That's primarily how I use it, but I also use it to make salsa (fill it with tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, whatever else and one or two quick pulses and it's done).

It also does a good job with crumbs if you need them. It also has the 1-10 levels which are nice if you don't want high speeds, like with hot soups or small amounts like salad dressings where high speeds can be dangerous/messy.

The only cons are that it's pretty big so it won't fit on the counter under most cabinets (I have the base and then the container right next to it on my counter under the cabinet so it's not a big deal) and it's loud on full power, but luckily it only takes a few seconds to do whatever you need to do so it's not a big deal.

That's a good price. I say go for it! It's expensive but they last forever. I've had mine for 3 years and it's still as good as new.

The cooking forum has a lot of threads on Vitamix so you might want to search for those. There are a lot of pros/cons there as several people have them.

You will not regret it, I have one that is over 15 years old and it runs like a champ. I just wish I could justify buying a new one with the new motor they are talking about. Mine is doing great but it is loud. Scares the cat! But she knows I make her food in it so she is okay with it.

I've had one for many, many years and it still works just fine. It is loud and it is heavy and I hate having to take it out of the cabinet if I want to use it, since I have arthritis in my hands. It is too tall to fit on the counter, so it seldom gets used now. That price is excellent, in my opinion.

I found that to be the case with about all my kitchen gadgets, Mamatoad. I think I will put the toaster away, we seldom use it since we don't eat bread.

Susan, I'm diabetic but control it mostly thru diet so being able to do things like make spaghetti sauce, tomato soup and even treats like ice cream will literally change my life. I don't need to make large quantities I prefer to make things fresh and control what we are eating but making small quantities can be such a pain.

I just cannot wait to get it!

I haven't used it much, but I got it in 1981 and it still works. I think it was about $200 back then. I'm sure the newer models can do more.

We have one and use it almost every day..Costco and Sam's have them at very good prices too. Ours was a Christmas gift from our daughter but we have wanted one for a long time as just about everyone in the family has them. We have used son's many times..They are wicked machines.......they will crush rocks I think.....jk but they are powerful.....

I don't have one, but my friend does, and she loves it. She makes all kinds of smoothies. I make them too in my old Osterizer blender, and it works ok for that. But I cannot crunch up anything hard like carrots.

It looks like the $399 model is on wait list. Did you get one? If you decide to order another where Easy Pay is not offered, sometimes they will give it to you if you call and ask QVC.

I did get one, Socks12345! I am so excited, I just cannot wait to get it. Soup is one of the things I am really looking forward to making. It will be a great lunch treat that is easy to make. Thanks for the tip about calling them, I will remember that!

I want one. I was at Costco and they had a display. I just bought a Ninja blender though so I couldn't justify it. Would love to get a copy of the cookbook though. Mine is pretty powerful so I can't complain but I still want one...
