I was cracking up watching this lady's cooking video named Nancy Today! I just couldn't stop watching. Her house is an absolute mess and she is a scream to watch. HEEHEE! I was watching her make bread. I had forgotten all about her cooking video, I'll have to go see what else she's cooking....

I was looking for a video on how to make those cupcakes that look like roses and came across this drunk woman in a bikini cooking something that I don't even remember. Scared me so bad I've never looked for anything there again, LOL.

I really enjoy chef John (I think) from foodwishes. His recipes are all insanely easy and so far every one I have made has come out great. He's a little funny and the videos are all pretty short. The ingredients for each recipe are listed on his blog and the instructions are all in each video. Really good for people that are just beginning to cook.

Arkansasgirl, that Nancy is crazy... I watched a video where she cooked hamburgers right on the burner of her ceramic top range, no pan at all and grease was running everywhere. She had another one where her friend was sprinkling salt on some chicken and the salt shaker had dead ants in it... insanity personified!

Annie, I can totally understand how an experience like that would scar you for life and make you never want to look at a Youtube cooking video again.

vacuumfreak...when I was watching the bread making one, she used her cook top to roll her dough out on...she used it like a counter top throwing flour all over it and kneading on top of the cook top! GAH! She probably didn't bother cleaning it off before she used it cook on either! Yes I believe she is crazy but hilarious too!

Annie - just had to look for that video you referenced. Didn't find it but saw that there's a whole world of bikini cooking shows out there! Who knew?! Some even require me to prove my age, which I'll have to figure out. Something to remember for Fridays when CF is slow... ;)

Omg, I think I might become addicted. Some are hilarious (Nancy), while others truly helpful.

I like Fanny Cradock, but it is definitely fantasy.

I've watched a lot of Betty's Kitchen and find it entertaining and a lot of laughs. She had applied to have a show on the Food Network and was quite upset when they apparently laughed at her. FoodWishes is a great set of shows too, well done, very professional.

There's a lot of videos I've watched and enjoy watching. Probably my favorite would have to be the BBQ Pit Boys. There's a lot of others that are interesting in their own way.

Clara (Depression Era Cooking) isn't really something I'd gleen recipes from but it's a great show for some reminders on history. My parents grew up in the drought and depression and spoke occasionally about it. I often wonder how many could live though it today with all the spoiled brats we have in young and old alike. She's in her 90s doing these over a number of years. Age 91-96 I've seen on some of these.

Beryl Stokes with her Cajun cooking is entertaining too. Not real professional productions, definitely not as professional as they think but it's a fun show to watch. They sho do like their salt! And lots of cheese on that too!

CookingAndCrafting is another that I enjoy.

Some of the Frugal Chef (Great tip for making sour cream in a minute) are interesting too. She's so different. Almost too happy!

Who can't like Grandma Ralphie? And the relationship with her grandson is heartwarming.

Gerry Barrett is another lady that is great. I like the old stove she has in her kitchen too. Noreen's Kitchen has some interesting episodes as does the One Pot Chef is interesting too and Pohto's cooking is "Mighty Fine, Mighty Fine!"

FOAS, I went back to try to find it, it was actually a little scary to think that she was working with a hot stove.

I couldn't find it, maybe she set herself on fire, but you're right, there are a lot of drunk women in bikinis cooking things on YouTube. Who knew?

Do NOT tell your wife it's my fault. (grin)

Cathy, you should still take the sushi class just for the experience. Thought of you when I cooked tonight... I made a ham, mashed potatoes, corn, and pineapple upside down cake... used your pans to boil the corn and melt the butter for the pineapple upside down cake. Then I had to put everything away and clean up... I'm exhausted!

Annie, it's probably a good thing that you can't find the video again... you might have nightmares!

In general, I look for the two extremes of cooking videos.

1. International ethnic street foods. inexpensive food made skillfully for the common folks.

2. Modernist cuisine, expensive chefs/restaurants. Advanced cooking techniques for the very wealthy.

It never crossed my mind to look for cooking videos in Youtube. Never. I'm going to go over there sometime and check it out, especially the Asian ones!

Vacuumfreak, yes, she was on a bit of a rant almost in one of the videos. She apparently was ready to pack up and move by the way it sounded, she was so sure she was going to have a show. I like to watch her and wish she'd polish them up. Having a bag of sugar out to show that she's using sugar and then going through the extremes of explaining she used half a package of something, but it wasn't this package, but it was another package, sort of like this, and she'll use the other half in another recipe... ARGH! and the expression on her face when she tries something makes me laugh, because she always looks up to the right and gets this deep concentration. You just follow her head, almost like Gustavo Almodovar.

And the "uh"s. My gf and I were watching some videos and decided to try a variation of the "Hi Bob" frat game where you take a drink every time she says "uh". We both gave up after a couple videos!

I also find it curious she always uses the rear left burner. Don't quite understand why someone would always want to bend over, but apparently it's what she's used to.

Yes, I laugh at her more than with her but I do like her videos and to give credit where credit is do, albeit she often goes overboard, she IS very good about giving the recipe and also puts the recipe in the footer notes. She's also very good about saying cooking times and she specifies if it actually took longer or shorter than expected. She's very good looking, especially for her age.

One of my real frustrations is when someone is showing a recipe or something and leaves out quantities of something or just says "my secret ingredient" without saying what it is and the like. Why bother putting it on if that's the way you do it?

I forgot another one I like. Cooking with Dave. His son filled in for him one day and did a great job. Made for a great looking breakfast. There's so many that it's easy to spend an afternoon watching different ones and going to the links to others.

Cynic, thanks for the response... I will have to look for that video. I know she's not perfect I think the same about some of the unnecessary details and the uh or uhms can get annoying of there are too many... With a couple of her ham recipes, all she did was open it up and heat it on the oven or crock pot. She didn't do ANYTHING to it, and I wondered why she even made a video about it. If someone needs a video tutorial on how to open a package and an oven door, I'm not quite sure they should be anywhere near the kitchen or stove!

Still, for someone who's not professional, I think she does a great job, save the tacky opening. I do appreciate that she lists the recipe in the description and that she usually repeats the ingredients and amounts when she's putting them in. I agree about her being pretty too.

I'm not going to criticize anyone too harshly for saying uh or uhm too much, because while annoying, I do it too even though I'm hyper-aware of it. Same thing with writing... I try not to use "I" too much, but usually fail :o)

What a fun idea for a game... You'd likely go through a couple bottles of vodka each with some videos I've seen (and made :-/)

Here's another one that has really intrigued me. It's like taking a step back in time. I sort of wait to see a stagecoach go by in the background! She's definitely not prepared food user, with the possible exception of her Zatarain's! Cooking on a wood stove, no oven, still bakes on the stovetop. This is an example of my point when people argue you MUST use gas or you MUST have a $15,000 stove to make you a decent cook. I maintain a good cook can cook on most anything. Growing up in a family that came from farms, this has a special place in my heart too.

Over the last couple of years I have watched Thai Cooking and Bread Making. I really should expand...well maybe not.

I just watched one today on slaughtering turkeys and it was by Chef Dave or Chef Bob or someone, does that count?

What I was really trying to figure out was how big a container did I need to scald a full grown turkey. It finally dawned on me that if the pan was big enough to fry a turkey (i.e. a turkey fryer), then it was big enough to scald the bird, LOL.

Then I ordered 15 heritage turkey poults from a local hatchery, they'll be hatched on May 28 and be just about Thanksgiving dinner sized by.....well.....Thanksgiving dinner.

Good idea! I have been linked to some via a google search at times. When i first made mozzarella last summer i really needed to see it visually in stages. One was of two girls getting toasted on wine and really messed up the recipe but it still worked out...gave me the confidence that mine was not at all ruined and could be saved.
Always surprised how messy some people cook...

The only one I've found that moves quickly with good instructions is Jenny Jones (yes, that Jenny Jones), and I like her recipes. Of course she has a blog, too (Jenny Can Cook). And if you want to save and print her recipes, they download as a pdf file. Very convenient.

A also like watching Alton Brown, but his is a TV show, so it's much more interesting than cooking videos.
