Contemporary/Modern Lovers, Where Do You Shop (inexpensively)?
Comments (10)Mostly accessories right now. I've just ordered a new sofa, loveseat, cocktail table and end table and that'll be it for furniture for awhile except for a couple of dining chairs. For those I'd originally been attracted to the Pottery Barn Grayson side chair but have expanded my search considerably since then. I satisfied my punch of color need with a couple of lime green leather storage ottomans. In my search for affordable-to-me chairs I've come across so many really cool-but-too-pricey-for-me options that I'm just waiting for the right chair/right time/right price. The project I'm turning my attention to now is a three shelf niche in my front entry (through which no one enters). Shelves are narrow, one 3" and two 4". I'll post a picture in a little bit. It takes me a long time for that process so I'll finish this post first. My house is a 150+ year old Cape with antiques from my mother, hand-me-downs from family and a few things I've purchased which until this year were decidedly not modern. I've changed out the living room window treatments and rods which transformed the whole look of the room and just taking the tablecloth off the dining room table was an improvement. I'm in the middle of recovering the dining room chairs--but had to refinish first--with a geometric design fabric. So, just for eye candy I'm happy to look at all sites....See MoreFor small home/contemporary lovers
Comments (14)Parma42....nice home. When I purchased my home, 19 years ago the MB & bath was decorated in that same blue(sink, tub, toilet), then mauve carpeting & that bright red was the counter top in the bath and tiled around the fireplace! :0) It was weird seeing that combo again.....minus the mauve carpeting. :0) I'm also surprised that wood walls are in again. Comments (113)Been years since I redid the kitchen (and sold that house) but still come here most every day to see what is new - I "personally" have one cat, Heidi, she just turned 13. Until this Spring I also had Harley who was 13 in the Spring. Sadly, the time came to tell him goodbye due to his almost unmanageable overactive thyroid. He was my orange and white tabby. Heidi is the brown/gray one, she evidently has a double coat because most weeks I vacuum up enough hair to 'clothe' another cat. She loves to drink out of the toilet and she is my acrobat. Perhaps she thinks that if her feet touch the floor something terrible will happen. She is a totally inside cat, as was Harley. I keep my lounge chair and couch covered with inexpensive quilts because Heidi shreds upholstery. Six years ago my daughter and grand-daughter in law brought home a tiny kitten, maybe six weeks old, I named her Miss Kitty, she is outside part of the day and inside the rest of the time (we live on five acres and my home is closer to the back property line than to the road). Miss Kitty was not properly handles while a kitten (I was still living at my previous home during the work week and only out here on weekends. My sister in law lived next door and 'cared' for Miss Kitty but she has always been stand-offish. Miss Kitty insists on drinking from the water faucet. Miss Kitty is the only one that loves the kitchen counters. Then there are the boys - the actually are the grandson's cats but I feed them, vet them, bring them in when the weather is bad. Kitty Boy is (I think) either 3 or 4 years old. Brad brought him home to be a barn cat (keep in mind this little cat was maybe 8 wks old and just leaving him in the barn alone was iffy, at best). Because Mo (Mogley), the huge tuxedo male had no intention of befriending Kitty Boy. The are somewhat friends now. Mo is (I think) 6 years old. Miss KittyKitty Boy Mo I will need to dredge up a photo of Harley and Heidi later. Carolyn...See MoreNeed help changing cream tuscan kitchen to white contemporary kitchen
Comments (20)I agree with the vent hood and lighting changes. A glass pendant in green or aqua lighting could look good. As far as seating, I always liked the Tig Countertop seats from Crate & Barrel when I had them in my last home. They are contemporary and sleek. And far more comfortable than they looks. But they wouldn't go with the french look of your dining area. I assume you plan to change out those chairs as well? If you like coastal looks, sea grass or a light natural/driftwood color is a good option too. If you are looking for light and bright I think you would need to paint the island. I would also get lighter drawer/cabinet pulls. https://www.crateandbarrel.com/tig-metal-counter-stool/s642141 https://www.ballarddesigns.com/jo-jo-pendant/lighting/indoor-lighting/pendants/444240?listIndex=5 https://www.overstock.com/Lighting-Ceiling-Fans/Belinda-Blue-Glass-Cluster-Pendant-Chandelier-Antique-Black-Finish/16001564/product.html...See Moreorganic_donna
