Sandwich Bread help

I recently made whole wheat sandwich bread using half whole wheat flour, half bread flour. The bread came out delicious, but a little more dense than I would like. Can anyone give me any advice on how to make it more light & fluffy? Should I let it rise longer? I also considered using slightly less water, but I live in a dry climate at 7,000 feet and think this would make the bread too dry.
