1 vs. 100 (that 'mob' game show)

I turned it on last night about 15 minutes after it started. Why did they keep calling that contestant the Smartest Man in the World? He certainly didn't seem all that smart to me. Did he end up winning much? (I had to leave before it was over.)

I wondered that too, didn't see the beginning, don't remember how much, maybe 250 thous. I think. At least he didn't get greedy and lose it all! I enjoy that show.

The furnace model number with the XR16 is an XC80. Very similar to the XV80 but communicating. Must be a mistake. TCONT803 is a fine thermostat to use with the XR16 air conditioner and furnace. Overall, I do not agree with the equipment matchups proposed with the furnaces and air conditioners. Oversized furnace on both systems, and oversized coil to achieve marginal efficiency gains on the XR16 system. I realize you may not understand all the implications of oversized equipment, but it is a big deal for comfort, efficiency and reliability. My daughter has purchased a new home with 50 year old double hung windows that need to be replaced. It is a colonial home in Massachusetts several miles from the coast. She is trying to decide between the Anderson 400 series and the Marvin Integrity. She wants to stay with the same traditional 6 over 6 white double hung windows. Any thoughts on which is better - the Marvin Integrity, or the Anderson 400 Series?

There are 4K computer monitors, but many "run of the mill" PC monitors can run higher than 1080p, for example, my 23" monitor has a max resolution of 2560 x 1440 compared to 1920 x 1080 "full HD". That's 1.77 times the pixels. Not quite 4K 3840 x 2160 but noticeably more detail if your PC's graphics card can handle it. Resolution isn't the only thing either. You have to look at screen refresh rates as a powerful PC can run games at 90+ frames per second. Most reasonably priced 4K TV's have a native refresh rate of 60Hz. (regardless if they claim 120 or 240, that's just a marketing gimmick) That being said, you really need to be a game geek to really care. As a casual gamer, I've played games on mediocre systems at 30FPS 1080p and it looked good and played good to me personally. Cheap TV's will also have cheap LCD panels with uneven LED backlighting - creating a halo around the whole screen. The cheap panels will also blur more on fast action. I guess what it boils down to is what you want to pay for either. But a good TV will look great and can do more if it is web enabled. For a college kid where space is at a premium a TV may be the way to go.

Ok glad you found that useful. I decided to see if I could find some proof of the same ole shenanigans... yep sure did. Heavy on marketing and gimmicks low on realism and truth. But who needs truth? Now does this mean I am bashing Trane or Am. Standard? Only to the point in which they think their product is better than something else. The marketing gimmicks. They have to do that to charge more. If they told you 'hey our products are good, but you will pay more over the life of the equipment' would the you still buy it? But Ray, why wouldn't you just shut up and sell it anyway? This comment right here: 'Hey, you sold me this equipment --- you said it was the 'best', what do you mean the indoor coils are leaking freon? What do you mean the compressor is making noise that will eventually lead to it's death? This equipment is still new... if it was the best why am I having all these problems? That's why. --- no HVAC equipment is immune to failure. none. So sorry, Trane / American Standard is just as good --- or as bad as anything else. It will cost more to repair it. Marketing gimmicks cost money. -------- But what should I do then? Focus on design. Things like zoning / how it is going to be done. What is the better way for the project to be done? Sizing of the equipment. Don't over size even if you are buying 2 speed equipment. (A half ton over size is fine. Nearly 2 tons over size? uh---- NO.) Things like how much equipment versus controls --- further from that lay out. Ease of future service, the ability to easily repair the equipment, replace when that time comes. Things to reduce maintenance problems and or expenses. These things are fleeting when trying to get the 'cheapest price' outside of what the equipment costs. Because design is the skill level attained by 'experience'. With that said, new construction is often times none of these things. It's more along the line of sell the system(s), hire the sub contractor to do it --- and that sub contractor makes more money by completing as many jobs as they can. More often than not new construction has little to do with great design. Because of that I would zone the new construction home with 'equipment' as opposed to controls especially because you have the room to do so (5k sq ft) If you want zoning, add it later with someone who has in depth knowledge that it's even feasible. Experience is gained over years, decades in the HVAC field. As noted previously I do not do new construction. I come after the builder is long gone... in some cases as little as 1 year after the house was built. I service the Katy, Texas area.

Did they really think that made him the smartest man in the world??? Game show hype, I guess. The MC must have felt silly every time he said that.

I had to turn it off just after he won on the "Who's on First?" question. I was surprised he felt he needed to use a second help on that one. The answer seemed pretty clear after the two members of the mob were questioned.

I thought his IQ was 195? I knew the answer to every question he was asked. Usually I don't. I wonder if they choose questions based on the contestant? They could just ask me one sports question and I'd be out of the game. :-)

His IQ was supposed to be higher than Einsteins. What ever that was. That's all I saw of the program. Most of the time though, it seems really smart people don't know beans about every day things. I'd be done with a sports question too.

Yes I wondered about that tag they gave him...but he was better than the gal that followed that had to use two helps to find out that a Grammy Award resembles a Gramophone! I don't imagine she'll last too long...

I'm pretty easily entertained. I enjoyed the show. But, I couldn't believe he didn't know "Who" is on first, "What" is on second, "I donno" is on third. Doesn't everyone?

That man had a VERY high IQ, but the questions had nothing to do with academic knowlege. The one question about the moons was the only thing that would show intelligence. The rest was just "street smarts" stuff. It was all entertainment junk. I considder that stuff un-needed knowlege.

Then I must be the smartest woman in the world because I needed no helps in the Abbott and Costello thing. I was on a roll with that show and had gotten every one for many shows until they threw a sports one at me..I'm pretty good at guessing but I didn't have a clue.

Intelligent doesn't necessarily mean educated. And an IQ test measures only one kind of intelligence. Back when I was in high school, my high IQ got me a lot of attention. As an adult, I've known lots of people with much lower IQs and much more knowledge.

Fortunately, these days the emphasis on IQ has diminished. Except on game shows, evidently.

I like this show better that Deal or no deal, because at least you have to think. I'm just not crazy about Bob Sacket.
