Early Dinner

So, our Sunday lunch got moved to an "early" dinner on Saturday. What time do you consider to be early dinner? Five o'clock? Off to read the thread on scalloped potatoes as I am also making a ham!

Depends on what you consider dinner time....for me 5 would be early....but some might meat 4....
Sorry....why "early dinner"? What will you do Sunday? Dishes????

I would consider 6:00pm an early dinner time. 5:00pm is still in the afternoon. NancyLouise

Yachter, thanks for your comments on this table. Not Chrismasy but winter is what I was hoping for when I set it. I set it in such a hurry that I see I didn't turn my trees with the pretty side out on all of them. Magpie, I should of stated DDaughter so you would of known for sure. Either one, glad you liked it. Yes, Karen, Jane and Creek are all having trying times with DDads. OA, thanks and I may try a MG table but don't know if I have much to put on it. I fell in love with these trees and some others at Shopko this year and DD never fails me. She listens to close sometimes but is always thinking of my tables for me while shopping. My jaw really dropped when I seen these stems. May be a little to upper class for me.lol Luvs, this was an accident with the trees and stems but they do seem to go together. When I received them I was thinking about using DM's 3 wisemen and setting a table but didn't have time. Jeanne, 20 years is perfect. Your still young enough to enjoy all the sports and life with them. I always told our children that they needed to be able to support their family if they were alone so it takes alot of hard work to be able to do this. Your DGD will appreciate life more with having to work to achieve it. Both our children own businesses and it's paying off. DD and I are 24 years apart and her and her DD are 25. She had to finish college, get married, own a home before having children. Wish we were all so disciplined in life.lol Thanks for all the wonderful comments on this table. I need to go make dinner rolls for dinner tomorrow evening at friends. May try to start a new table also. Punk

We actually stayed at condos a few miles outside the park. We had 13 people in a three bedroom unit and a two bedroom unit. The condos were supposed to be adjacent, but there was a mix-up and they were two floors apart. My brother had timeshare points that he had to use by the end of June, and he used them to "pay" for both condos for everyone. So comparing one tasty meal with 4 nights free lodging I think he wins the favorite son/brother/uncle award. The park itself was fun (although crowded) but the area outside the park is the capital of kitsch, with endless billboards, shops, restaurants and "attractions", including a scale model titanic, and a Hatfield/McCoy-themed dinner theater.

Ruthie, we have chili in the summer, too. It tastes good any time of year. Shirley, catfish is a really good fish. When we lived by the river a bunch of us would go fishing and take the catch home, clean and fry them up with homemade hushpuppies, cheese grits and whatever other people brought for dinner. Best meals ever! (Almost.) Your dinner sounds pretty darned good!! Mary, glad you're getting your eyes over with before your knee surgery. Doctors always take longer than we think they should. I sure found that out this week! Raven, if I had a vote, it'd be for tacos. I just love them. Plus they're so easy. It's always good to have a clean-out night, Georgysmom. I don't know how you can stand the heat on the golf course these past few days. Whew!

This has to be your best birthday ever--sons home and making you a birthday feast. They may not have cooked when they were home, but obviously missed your great cooking so learned to do it themselves! Happy Birthday, Mom (early). I know you enjoyed every single minute of it.

Sunday will be an Easter egg hunt and a nice brunch instead. I also promised my 10 yo he could make a lasagna so we will still have a nice dinner on Sunday. He started cooking in the past couple of weeks and wants to be shown the ropes.
Good, five will work as an early dinner. I was hoping 4 wasn't considered early dinner. Our guests are from out of town so they like to visit when the kids are awake and not too cranky plus they aren't crazy about the late drive home and usually come out during daylight.

NancyLoise, I wonder if this is more of a regional difference or maybe urban/rural? 6 o'clock dinner/supper is what I grew up with, and my parents still eat at 6 sharp nearly every night. 7 fits my work schedule better, but eating later than that seems really late to me. It seems like people in cities are used to eating later, though? I always wonder if that means they go to bed on a full stomach or stay up late and get less sleep (assuming, of course, that the people in question don't have jobs with crazy hours, which of course changes routines).

Being as how cookie's event is being held on a Saturday (and I'm assuming no one is working) 6pm is early dinner for us jessica. You eat early so you still have time to do things in the evening. We would eat, go to Saturday evening church services(we teenagers did that so we didn't have to get up on Sunday morning. We always sat in the balcony)and still have time to go to the movies or party or whatever. We did this as a family also if there were family parties were the adults would play cards and visit. As for during the week When both my parents worked neither would be home till after 5pm. So eating at 6 or after was nothing unusual. We grew up in a suburb/rural town. Even now that I'm an adult(some who know me would dispute that fact!) home meals are 6 or after, and dinner reservations are never before 7pm. NancyLouise
