Rheem 15 v 16 seer vs Carrier 15 seer

We have heat pumps in several zones in a house we just bought in Georgia. We only just moved here so don't have any electric bills. The upstairs currently has a 1.5 ton 1992 unit that works fine. We don't know if we should replace it now, being 20 years old, even if it's working. The salesmen of course say we should. The two upstairs rooms are guest rooms and not often used. The rooms are, however, next to the attic so would run daily. We have had quotes from 2 different companies. The outdoor component is near the master bedroom wall so quiet is important.

First company is a large national company giving us 2 ton Rheem quotes and telling us we could do 15 seer, variable speed or 16 seer two-stage. He did a load calculation and says we are right in between 1.5 and 2 ton and he'd recommend going up to the two ton. We don't really understand whether it's worth the increase up to the 16 seer.

Rheem 15PJL and RHKL, 10 yr parts and 5 yr labor after $1000 rebates is $5700.

Rheem 16RHPL and RPRL-JEC incl new thermostat, 10 yr parts, 5 labor after $1600 rebates is $6300.

Second company is the local one that everyone we know uses and is only a Carrier dealer. We do not believe he did a load calculation but just a replacement quote. Quote was given to our realtor and we are trying to sort out detail.

Carrier - 13 seer 1.5 ton before rebate is $4100 and they want to replace the duct system for $2200. We aren't sure why. We know some rebate is available.

We requested a more detailed quote from them for an upgraded system for the noise (15 or 16 seer) and are awaiting that. Am writing this now, though, because the first company has a promotion that ends in 5 days for the labor warranty. Normally Rheem gives a 10 yr parts, 1 year labor but for 5 more days, the installing company extends the labor to 5 years. Our local company is so busy we aren't sure we'll get the quote before we have to decide about the Rheem. If Rheem seems to be the better product we don't want to miss the extended warranty.

Any thoughts on Rheem vs Carrier on both noise and quality and 15 v 16?

Thanks.
