I'm so damn angry at snowmobilers

I know, I know, it is just a few bad ones, but there is no way to tell the good from the bad, so, be it right or wrong, I'm lumping them all in this gripe.

As you all know, our Son & Wife,(radio dokktor & dir_ty fingernails) are in the fight for her life. Now some damn snowmobilers ran down and killed their sweet dog, Maddie. They live in the country with a lot of land, but a lot of these machine rider people don't respect other peoples property. Maddie was just the sweetest black lab mix, and was a solace for the family.

We live in town in a senior APT building and enjoy looking out to the yard and seeing the pretty unblemished snow, but it doesn't stay that way for long after anew snowfall, because, although the snowmobilers are supposed to stay in the road, they just have to drive up and over our yard. I sometimes fantasize having an hunting season on them. I would sit in my window with a bazooka and take out both man and machine. Whew...rant is over, but I'm still pi$$ed off. Dottie

That is soooooooo inexcusable and inhumane. What low lifes. Can the authorities do anything to track them down? Do they know who did it? I'd be livid too.

Thanx for the attempt Anney. It is really frustrating. The first that bugs me is they work! I put one around a BC (Black Cherry) plant and NOT one around the BC right next to it. Right now, the one that had the WOW around it literally twice the size of the one without it. It was kind of funny because the one with the WOW did not have to put up with the wind and as soon as I pulled the WOW off, it fell over. It's staked and doing well now, but it was amazing how much better it is doing than the rest of them (thin stem and all). Next, it's not like I did anything wrong. I followed the instructions. I placed a 5-gallon bucket over the plant, filled the WOW's 2/3 the way up and pulled the bucket out. They stood fine, telling me that it is not a problem with uneven ground or anything. I go out there the next day and there they are, laying in a puddle of their own water with a now very unhappy plant underneath them. I have bought two boxes of three and out of each box, one has worked as advertised. I think I'll just use them around the cages from now on or find some other way of "staking" them. Finally, forgive my venture off topic here, but since we are talking about Global Warming on a tomato thread, let me throw my nickel in: Corrie, the reason for Global Warming is to control you. First, GW (Global Warming, not Garden Web) allows the Gov't to control your energy, which is everything you own. They can regulate your car, your home, your computer... everything. For example, they can tell you that your AC is on too much. Then they tell you that your house is too energy efficient and regulate the efficiency of new homes (make them smaller). Finally, you will find yourself in an apartment. They will not only tell you what kind of car to drive, but they will start to tell you WHERE you can drive it. Eventually, you will be allowed trips to the grocery store and work only without special permission (papers please?). Or you can take public transportation (read: Government controlled transportation). Also, if you are wondering about the warming and temperature data, look at whose paying for it. If the research is payed for by government grants, it is suspect. Whoever pays the bills is in control! Never trust research that is payed for by politicians, especially when the data gives them more power (I'm looking at you, IPCC). The next step is to put government in control of health care. That means that the government will control everything you ARE, meaning your body. Whoever pays is in charge. When the government is pays, they will be in charge of not only which doctor you see, but what that doctor tells you. They will be able to tell you what to do, what to eat (home grown vs store bought tomatoes?), how many kids you can have and so on. Once those two things are in place, you are under complete government control. That's what it is all about, control. OK, my tin-foil hat is off now. Back to talking about tomatoes! I'm getting blooms on my Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, Eva Purple Ball, Black Cherries and Texas Star. What are the odds of these actually setting fruit on foot tall plants? Lulie wayne, it's so good to see you post. I've been thinking about you lately for some reason. This whole BP thing is a disaster. I've been mad since day one since nothing seems to be happening except blotched attempts to save the oil well, nature be damned. It's way past time for BP to get off their throne and do something constructive. And another thing that ticks me off is the shrimp and fishermen are prepared to go out and clean the marshes but the EPA and Coast Guard are keeping them from it. (I just heard that on the news tonight.) I think Louisiana should take a page out of Arizona's book and just do it themselves like they would like to. Geez, think this upsets me?????

I was thinking about what I have said on this thread and why it bothers me so much, why it makes me even want to respond, since I usually don't I think it's because I was treated this way as I child and I did nothing to deserve it. I was like a lot of your stepkids - I was a good kid, I never got into any trouble, I made good grades, I was respectful of my elders and good to my siblings. In fact, I have relstionships with my SM's children (my half-siblings), but not with her or BD. I think that's because she never wanted a relationship with me in the first place, and she didn't want her DH (my BD) to either. She pretty much wanted me to "disappear," like so many of you here and other boards wish your step-children would do - just go away. Disappear. So she froze me out. Visitations eventually became non-existent. My BD blames that fact on me, my Mom, and her family. But my Mom never said a bad word about him OR SM. She always told me they loved me. But I DID witness SM scream and accuse my Mom of starving me, of sending me in ugly clothes, of not taking proper care of me. Yep, the same ol' accusatory crap that I read on here... So forgive me if I take what I read here with a grain of salt. I know there are two sides to every story, and I know from experience that sometimes (note, I said "some" times), the accusing side blows things way out of proportion and only sees what they want to see, then accuses the other party without knowing the full story. See, when my SM accused my Mom of starving me, it was because my Mom fed us healthy foods, always cooked with whole grains, we raised our own fruits and veggies, as well as our own chickens and rabbits for meat, we hunted deer for venison... I had a brother with what is now called ADHD, and instead of putting him on Ritalin, my Mom chose to change our diet and she cut out all artificial sweetners, colors, she cut out refined sugars and flours... as a kid, it was miserable! But, in the long run, it was a healthier lifestyle. But when I went to BD and SM's house, they had Pepsi, Cookie Crunch cereal, Oreos... oh. my god. Kid Food Heaven! And I ate like a little piglet! So, then my SM gets it in her head that my Mom is "starving" me. Not the truth, but she didn't even ask, she just accused and threatened that they would take me away from my Mom! So, what does that tell you? That sometimes, things are not always what they seem. Sometimes, you see what you want to see, you run with it, and you start to believe it. Then the negative feelings being to creep in and you start to see that person or people in a negative light, never even thinking there might be another side to the story. And it's hard to change that path of thought, once it's begun. All that to say, I think this bothers me so much because I've lived it as a step-child, and I see my child living it now, too. And that was not my intention. I set out on making it different for my child. I phoned up SM and introduced myself, I told her I respected her, that I knew my child cared about her, that I knew we could relate on a 'mother' level (she had a foster DD), and that I wanted things to be different for my child than they were for me, with my SM. I thought I had done a good job of helping her feel supported. But, a few weeks later, she turned right around and attacked me - literally - in a parking garage. Along with my XMIL. Attacked me and my then-BF (now DH) in front of my child. Over money. It was so bad, I filed a police report. I was scared, and I had to watch my child's face in the car window as they drove off, because it was XH's weekend. And this isn't the first time a domestic violence situation has arisen with them. I take responsibility for not being more aggressive, for letting them feel like they could bully me. I felt like a whimpering dog, being kicked in the stomach when I should have stood up to them, nose to nose, and been strong. But I didn't want to fight in front of my child. It was my choice. So, that's where I'm coming from on this. It upsets me to think that my child is experiencing the same indifference that I did. My child is so kind-hearted, such a good kid (and I'm biased I know, but parents and teachers all tell me that my kid is such a good, well-mannered, kind and polite child) that it tears me up that another person, who has such influence and authority, would treat my child with such indifference - as if my child didn't deserve to exist or deserve their kindness and love. I also want to clarify a contradiction that I may have made here: When I said that faking it 'til you make it doesn't work, then turned right around and said that sometimes you have to act out the part of changing your feelings before it comes to you, I realized that I was contradicting myself. So I thought about what makes it different. And I realized that it's the intention. When you 'fake it til you make it,' that usually means you're faking caring about them until they're gone, with no intention of ever really trying to change your feelings or learning to love them. But when your intention is to really learn to love, to change your feelings toward another person, that's the key. KWIM?

mom2emall I can certainly understand your frustration. For me at times it just isn't that it has been a step parent issue but the issue of bio mom and wife as well. It seems like a thankless job at times. One that I know in hind site they all appreciate but while I'm in the middle of all the goings on I want to become invisible and see how they all manage. I recall one particularly enlightening moment during my first marriage. It was a Sunday, (my only day off) 1st husband was at his friends house drinking beer ( as he was everyday ) SD was with her mom at the lake and I was downstairs doing laundry, his laundry, her laundry...I did not have kids at the time. These days I feel like the secretary to a very dysfunctional group of office executives. They all act like they are in charge of their own lives while wanting me to tie up the loose ends for them since I do not work outside of the home. No matter that it is Christmas time and all the gifts given from our home to husbands side of the family and our children are done by my leg work, wrapping skills and so on. I am exhausted from the stresses of late, preparation for Christmas, a root canal that was horrid and now must be redone next Monday. Not to mention my sons grades, errands for husband and DD20, laundry, cooking, putting up the tree and oh yes, my disability. I need a vacation. Then DH comes home from a weekend visit to his family in Ca. (1700+ miles away) with Christmas presents for SD and himself (I believe my name is just on there as an after thought) and nothing for my 2 kids. This is the third year in a row for that. His daughter in Ca. is 30. They make enough money to send at least a $10 or $15 gift card to my kids. My SD33 in Ar. has never left out my newest SD10 and wouldn't think of sending a package for Christmas with a gift in it for everyone except my SD10. SD33 sends SD10 birthday gifts every year also. My kids get nothing from DH's oldest daughter. I told him this time that I was going to get a gift card for my kids from his daughter and that he could speak to her after the holidays. I'm tired of letting it go when SD10 is thought of by everyone under the sun and my kids get the shaft. Anyway....venting on your post....sorry. It gets a bit much a times to see everyone else get the praise and so one while you do all of the work. I have told my kids that they need to come up with a slave name for me because at times that is how I feel. They say they already have one....It is "Mom".

I am so sorry to hear that.

You're right, it's just a few bad ones, but I can understand why you are feeling the way you are. We used to feel the same way about hunters. They would tear up farm fields. They would shoot right outside our house. I always wondered how they would like it if I came and shot guns in their yards in the city. Would they worry about their safety and the safety of their kids? You bet they would!

I don't recall what I was browsing on to begin with the other day, but I came across a couple of news articles about snowmobilers running down animals. In one place, a deer. In another, 53 (yes FIFTY THREE) mallard ducks! And now, someone's beloved pet (and I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happened... at least somewhere!). I can't believe the inhumanity of some people.

That is just terrible. It is bad that a few will make all the rest look bad.

Do you know who did it? It is really hard to tell who they are, even if you see them.

I am so sorry they did this to your familys dog.

We live on a private road...it has a big sign NO SNOWMOBILES...and they still come up the road and over peoples yards, and the hill up behind us.

No there is no way to tell who did this awful thing. Number one, they come and go at fast speeds. Two, the sleds all look alike or very similar. Three, the riders wear all the winter gear plus helmets with face shields. Yes the authorities can be called, but by the time they get out here, the offenders are long gone. Where is a bazooka when you need one? Dottie

Who NEEDS to drive a snowmobile, other than emergency services? They pollute and destroy. How sorry can you be when a driver dies during a 'snowmobile pub crawl'? Stupid thrill seekers! Can you work for more enforcement of existing laws? (Or new laws with teeth?) These are the same people speed boats on waterways, polluting and destroying.

How sad! I can't believe people are stupid enough to ride on PRIVATE property! You can bet I'd be out there with a gun.... I may not use it, but I would make sure they saw me out there holding it.

I'm so sorry to hear that, dotmom, and tho we don't have snowmobiles here, we have ATVs and people that go "muddin'" on other people's land. I am so sick and fed up with them. If they want to destroy property, then they should spend some money and buy some of their own. I am exceedingly ugly with anyone trespassing on my land. I will call the sheriff or the game wardens in a NY minute. Signs are posted. One guy got mad because my husband used "bad language" in front of his son. That schmuck came back again and got stuck, and you should have heard the bad language he heard from me, plus I had him arrested for trespassing.

As far as I am concerned....there aren't a "few bad ones"...there are a lot of bad ones and the not so bad ones are in the minority. I have no patience with grown men who have to go out and play like that.

Oh, my goodness that poor puppy dog. I can't imagine having that happen to my beloved pet.

I don't like it either how they zip about everywhere and anywhere. They do think they have the right too.

And the speed too. Away they go.

We live in a rural area with a lot of property with woods and fields. People, not just kids, go up the hill to drink, drugs and sex, my neighbor riding her horse in broad daylight went past a car and 2 hineys smiled at her. I'm tired of it. The owner of the land thinks it's funny. He doesn't live out here just bought the property as an investment.
If I now see someone going up the hill, I call the police. Someone kept breaking out the light at the corner of our property to darken the road. It stays clear for a while and then I call them again.
The ATV's are not licensed for the road so by law are not to be on the road. If they're doing donuts on the road in front of my house, I go out, tell them they don't live in this area and to leave or I'll call the police.
I get to ride my broom year round now. Respecting people's property is being done less and less. I pay the house payment, I pay the taxes and I'll be **** if they are going to tear up my property and road, throw their bottles and cans around and yell like crazy. We live in a nice area and I want it to stay that way.
If rural, there's the sheriff and county commissioner for your area. When approached as to what can be done or what would they do if done by their house, I get help.

How sad. I've thought about buying a little bit of land in a few years but the thought of hunters and 4-wheelers keeps me from seriously thinking about it. We had a few acres down south years ago and had idiots hunting right in our yard, right in front of our house! How stupid can people be. Then there were the drunks on top of a hill overlooking our property, yelling screaming and starring down at you.
