Can't mount the mobile on the crib, and don't know yet for sure, how to hang it. Most likely from the ceiling, but they need to be sure of the crib location first.

Quite frankly it would be easier to make the drive and hang the mirror / picture/ piano or whatever than to write a step by step description on hanging a cleat system but here goes ONE: Locate and mark a level line where object is to be hung on wall, TWO: Pre-drill the wall side cleat for the number of anchors that is determined to be used, for a 40# mirror that is lets say 24" wide I would suggest 3 alligators. http://www.toggler.com/products/alligator/installation.php or sharkies: http://www.powers.com/product_07585.php One in the center and one on each side 3" - 5" inches from the ends, place the cleat at the the marked location and using a pencil through the holes mark the wall then set the cleat aside and using a 1/4" masonry bit drill through the plaster ( if you are lucky you could hit lath and wont have to use the anchors, just drywall screws ) insert the alligator and gently tap in with a hammer until flush to the wall (check the manufactures instructions). Using flat head screws tighten the cleat to the wall. THREE: Locate the other half of the cleat to the object being hung and attach it using an appropriate sized flat head screws and place your object just above the wall cleat slide it down and your done. What a mess. To begin with, you're mixing up some of the terms, which makes for confusion. But you obviously have a lot more common sense than the previous owners and "handymen"! I'm not trying to figure out the whole thing. But I will just comment on a few obvious things: * the header over the opening (the fifth pic up from the bottom). It's absolutely inadequately supported. It should have been long enough to be supported on either side by a built-up post (several 2x4s or 2x6s nailed together--and there are even Code provisions for the pattern of that nailing. And even this assumes there is a bearing beam in the basement/crawlspace beneath. *Yes, those shims are inadequate and don't even provide full support. Maybe they figured a lot of caulking/glue would hold it altogether. *Those random 2x4s laid flat don't provide any useful support. *The third photo from the top reveals five-six studs removed and replaced with one misinstalled diagonal 2x4. You ask, "Is this support up to Code?" Uh, no. To come up with the appropriate fixes requires an inspection of the structure of the house, additions and all. "Up to Code." What a horrifying idea! Your helpful neighbours are taking the wrong approach. What you can't see can hurt you--especially if your house experiences a sudden structural failure. (Not to mention whatever electrical/plumbing "improvements" the previous owners made.) If the municipality provides a free inspection, I would take advantage of it and follow their advice. CEF - it took me several months of agonizing to fork over the bucks for those Van Dykes corbels. They weren't even expensive, either. I just COULD NOT find anything else so perfect for less (although I could easily find several options at five times their cost), so I finally bit the bullet, and have not been sorry. OMG, I paid full price! But sometimes, we do. I could live my life out of the Van Dykes, Restoration Hardware, Signature Hardware, etc. catalogues. I almost never buy anything from them, though! On the way I suspended that little under-cabinet shelf from the corbels: the reason I did this (other than the aesthetic of using the corbel) was because I'm anal about making things reversible, and also I don't like to penetrate a tile job if I don't have to. So the shelf is suspended from the cabinet above, and doesn't penetrate the tile as under-shelf supports would need. Shicksal - GORGEOUS wood. So pretty. I would go insane in that kitchen, trying to line up the grain lines; I have an overactive mind. Christina - that is going to be a VERY pretty backsplash, and your tile guy is doing a great job. Lazygardens - that totally messes with my mind, digging out a corner and finding historic mud bricks! SJhockey - I was so hoping you'd post and say what your guy got done in a day, because ever since I read your list I thought, "That guy will be phenomenal if he can get all that done in one day." ---- My railing arrived freight yesterday and here is the picture of the upgrade that my Bad Anal Self insisted upon. Shown is the standard concrete anchor, even for a commercial install (the smaller one). And THEN there is the 410 stainless monga anchor that I will be drilling holes for in my concrete, and using. My railing would never blow away into OZ in a tornado, after how it's getting installed. Uh, yeah, try to ignore the German Shepherd hairs on my rug. This is the room they hang in all day. kaylaurus - I really didn't hate the look of the cabinets, the floor, and I didn't even mind the laminate (except where it was missing). As I looked at the progress on the cabinets today, there are areas that are really just a small swap and some that are a large swap. I worried that DH was picking cabinets that were too similar to the old ones when he was looking at a particular shade of maple. But honestly, the natural cherry is far closer to them than that maple would have been. And that's okay, because, I too, liked the wood. It was just SO. DARK. The only kitchen light you can't see in those before pics is another of those anemic squares. Why we didn't re-do the lighting years ago is still a mystery to me. And it was SO non-functional/wasteful. The U inside the peninsula area wasn't bad, but beyond the peninsula was a wasteland of junk. Always. There were too many reasons for it NOT to be. A cleaned off deck/patio/porch sounds great. I definitely should have done that so we'd have had it to use when we were living with all the cabinets in the living room. Terri - when you said 'a quick roll-over' I thought lint roller...which is what it would mean at my house. :) Obviously, something much more lasting than de-dog-hairing. TG - Awesome to hear about the laminate work. I had a roommate once who built an awesome desk. I always thought...I could do that! But I have never come close after that. Installer left a little while ago. He. was. awesome. I'm very impressed. And in the 'stuff I got done' part of things, besides switching the W/D (still haven't cancelled the ASKO, playing phone tag with that salesman) I also ordered my UCL from Environmental Lighting. It'll ship Monday, I'll have it Tuesday. I also talked to my granite guy (early enough in the day I thought we'd template Tues or Wed, but I texted him later and said it could be as early as Mon (hopefully he can do it Mon). And I talked to the guy I ordered the fridge, range, and vent hood from and talked about what I should look for spec wise from these guys (since I've had to watch them on some things) and asked about who does what part of the hood/venting/roof cutting. When we had our roof done in the spring, the roofer said to just let him know when we were getting the new kitchen and he'd come cut the roof so he knows it was done right, but I'll have to ask him if his guys do the ducting too. Gorgeous room. The furniture is beautiful and I LOVE the bedding and accessories!

Benjamin and Sophie had a frog set like that from Ikea. Too cute!

Good work Moni!! I can only imagine how excited you are for this grandbaby. My guess, it's so much more fun making a babies room because it's a labour of love.

I see you like bib overalls too. Mine wore out years ago, I sure miss them. Wonder if they make them in extra big and short? sigh.

Congrats grandma Moni. Maybe this summer I'll be down to see you and lots of baby pics too.

I really like it. I can see alot of hard work went into your daughter babys room. I admire you for doing the angles in the corners of the chair molding. I tried doing that, with a miter box and it ended up being a disaster.:( That is one Beautiful room!

Cute room but Moni, I have to say this just as a reminder- It is dangerous to use bumper pads and the fancy crib blankets/pillow in cribs. The beds look so cute made up but I am always so afraid that the babies will be left unattended with all of the soft stuff in there. I know, most of us at the KT had bumper pads and all in our cribs but they have found the soft stuff increases the risk of suffocation and simply removing it from the crib can reduce the risk (kind of an easy fix).

Okay, I feel better- I tend to post this whenever I see a fully decorated crib. I remember posting it when Grant was born, LOL.

OK, the baby is due in May, early May. We won't know, if boy or girl till we can see it. :)

We know about the cribs bumper pad. Did you notice, there isn't even a mattress yet? :)

We just wanted it to look nice for the pictures.

Now I have to get busy and sew some down under toys, and knit some too, as Donna was so nice and sent me a bunch of patterns.

The stripes were a pain in the "you know where"! The paint bled under the blue tape, and all stripes needed touching up. We thought we would want to paint the chair rail... but then thought it would be easier to do the real thing after all that touch up painting. NOT! The chair rail was quite a lot of work too. Lori and I cut them, Doug sanded, and we all painted. Doug marked the walls for height, and where the studs are. What a lot of work. But it's done now. :)

We just have date and time guesses going within the family at this time. I am not sure, if we want to do boy/girl, I think we just wish for healthy.

LOL Good job of hiding the "non-mattress". The bed is sooo cute. Once the little one is older, that crib quilt will be a valued friend.

It looks GREAT! I really like that wall haning on the mirror! You all did a fantastic job! The colors are nice and calming.

a little painting tip... After you place the tape on the wall, use the BASE color, and paint it over the edge of the tape... basically sealing the tap and the wall... let it dry and THEN paint your contrasting color.. it does help!

Kat's right, I've used that tip and it works great, especially on walls or items that have any texture to them, like orange peeled walls.
