Happy Friday, friends!

My dad had toe surgery about six weeks ago, and the doctor finally released him this week to wear a regular shoe versus the big open flip-flop looking thing that stuck out several inches beyond his toes. Last night, my dad finally got to come back to Cowboy Church. He said being released from the doctor was like being let out of jail. (Knowing my mom and sister, I have to concur!) Besides going to church last night, he also got to spend a few days this week tinkering in his greenhouse.

I am grateful for his uneventful surgery and that he was blessed with a good doctor! :-)

The company I work for has just announced another layoff, and they also announced there will be no merit increase for work performed in 2007.

So I need to keep reminding myself that ... my job is as secure as it's possible to be in these conditions (doesn't mean I won't get cut, just that the function will continue to be needed) so actually I'm in a good position since I'm the only person who does this job.

I'm truely grateful for that (altho I admit to being pi$$y because of the no-raise deal). There will be 4,000 people who aren't so fortunate.

I may have gone to the extreme on not caring. I was overwhelmed (caring "too much") about aspects of my life. The budget is ok, but not in great shape as I keep spending too much on going out to eat. I don't care if I make all Ds, if I ever finish the house (in this crappy market, who does care?!), if I lose my 20 more pounds (I gained 4 and lost 2 this week), haven't worn skirts, heels, makeup, or hose in the past two weeks (who can look good swaddled in six layers of sweaters, boots, socks, long pants)... Langour of late winter. Or something else. Ordered some St. John's wort. I have been having crushing depression once a month for about three or four days. I really didn't want to take something 100% of the time when I only need it 20% of the time. And then further thought, Huh, why not? Maybe I'll kill two birds with one stone. I have been sleeping better since I decided not to push so hard on everything. Anxiety or antihistimines, whichever it was. The yoga mat is still trying to get me loose. I am getting new glasses, sunglasses, and contacts next week. Got my eyes checked and ordered them all online. Did the $39 route; I'm really curious to see if it's as great as Ed made it out to be. My big brother has been on his way over to look at moving the electrical box for two weeks now, but has yet to make it. I hired a handyman to come redo the entire back window and he'll contact me next week. Seems strange hiring someone and paying them when I know Ed could, but won't, do it. Silly. But I gotta do what I gotta do. As I walked to class on Tuesday, I was wrapped head to toe in fur, and every inch covered so that the icy wind couldn't cut into me. Still did on my legs, but other than that... and I was thinking, by the end of the semester, I'll be sweating! Only two days later (yesterday) I already make it to a pants and long sleeve shirt only? Not even the end of the semester. Shesh! Yes, our schools were closed on Friday due to the cold weather, but that's because we are not equipped to handle it. Truly. We can't stand at bus stops in frigid weather. But then we didn't shut down for a heatwave last summer like the northeast did. Turnabout. Turnabout.

I'm grateful my GS is going home today after a very successful, very fun visit for him. He's had cousins galore to play w/ and we've done just about whatever he wanted. He's cried once, when he missed his Mom, but other than that, he's had a great time. I'm all for building memories and while he won't remember this for too long, being 3 y o, the good feeling he has in his heart for us will never go away. He's a cutie pie, but now I need a break!

Im grateful my 16 y o GD is having her 4th and final knee surgery Friday. The first surgeon used screws that were too LONG and the tip has punched her muscle. All this time. At first her parents thought she was just a hypochondriac (runs in the family). But once the second surgeon saw it, he about had a fit. So, this is to repair the first surgery. Had the other one done Thanksgiving. What a way to spend the holidays, but she's my girl and she's going to be fine.

Walked the dog and did leg workout. I have been avoiding workouts since I got a gym membership - last year. It totally uninspired me and had been working out routinely before joining? I am still confused by this. There is a lot of renovations being done here so I was also using that as an excuse also. Yesterday was my first real workout in awhile. I didn't go crazy because I don't want to feel it too much.

It's the quiet before the storm here today. The sun is shining, the sky is a pretty blue with little clumps of white clouds here and there. It looks so peaceful and I'm enjoying every minute......because later on we're supposed to get a blast of arctic weather come through!! So I'm sitting here, uncomplaining, as I have to keep shifting positions so the sun doesn't shine in my eyes. I hope everyone has a calm and peaceful day today, with at least one of their wishes coming true.

I'm grateful for tangible reminders of those who have passed on. Like the Steinway grand in my living roomÂmy mother-in-law's wedding gift from her father in the 1920sÂand my grandmother's fascinating spoon collection.

Let's see: today I'm grateful for my old flannel shirt and fleece lounge pants. It's cold as a welldigger's butt here today! LOL

Today's a slow day so I'm cleaning out my folders and finishing my annual expense sheet and gathering end of year financial papers together. I have to be grateful for my librarian skills -LOL- I'm not artistic, can't sing, have terrible penmanship, I have a poor sense of fashion (although I wouldn't combine patterns) and I haven't mastered my digital camera either.

But I am organized!! And my paperwork is aready to go. All I need now are those official statements from corporations (W-2, 1099 etc.). And now my file folders are ready for 2008.

Personally I'd rather be artistic. I envy those who can sing or paint or play musical instruments.

I'm grateful that my other half still loves to participate in so many things with me, and that we both enjoy each other's company.
