The Kitchen Table

App question for Maddielee

Maddielee, I noticed on the iPad thread, that you said you had an app for recipes. I do use my iPad in the kitchen to access recipe sites, but I've been looking for one that I can use with my own recipes. Is this what you have, and if so, can you tell me more about the one you use?

Hey susan...I actually don't use an ap for my recipes. I tried one, didn't like it.

I put all my recipes in Google Docs documents. Its easy to copy and paste a recipe into Googledocs, easy to edit and organize. I can access my recipes from any computer anywhere.

'My houseplants' app help with feature evaluation (questionnaire)
Q

Hi all, I'm designing an app about houseplants and need help with functionality evaluation. The main goal of the app is to make you feel accomplished and happy about your houseplants. Not clear if it needs to be a social media, personal assistant, or smart control system. I'd like to provide a just-right level of Functionality. That's vital to clear out how potential customers feel about features I prepare to implement. In order to uncover this, I ask you to answer the following anonymous questionnaire https://forms.gle/wSK3XxCx59vCEa246 It consists of a pair of questions for each feature I want to evaluate: One asks how you feel if you have this feature; The other asks how you feel if you did not have this feature. If you can spare some time, please, feel free to share thoughts. Thanks!

I still can't help but wonder if those excruciatingly looooong (and mind-numbing) threads that appear to be taking place between just a handful of people are real, or manufactured. What's to actually stop someone from creating more than one account here, one a "pro" account and one (or more) that are the same person but appear to be held by posters who need help with everything from a table centerpiece to a boot tray? And why would this happen? Well ... maybe the "pro" wants to try to appear relevant and knowledgeable in hopes of someone hiring her? Do you notice how the questions so often tag the pro by name? Am I totally going out on a limb here? Probably. Oh well. I've done worse.

Apps that control appliances (SMART)

You didn't state which range you bought so I looked at the owners manual for the Jenn-Air JGRP436HL which, like yours has no display. First, the range requires an app either downloaded from Google Play (for an Android phone) or the Apple Store (for an iPhone). You cannot either Amazon device you mention because neither supports these apps. Second, when enabled, the app takes control of the oven. You must use the app to control the oven -- even the temperature -- as the knobs on the range are disabled. I'd suggest you check the range's owners manual to see how it operates before you buy it. You might post the brand and model here if you want additional help on houzz. (I looked are Amazon reviews of mechanical timers. I never would have imagined that there would be so many bad reviews of timers such as Sunbeam and Lux. If my old Presto timer ever goes, I guess I'll buy its replacement on ebay).

Hi Susan,

I have an iPod which uses the same OS and apps as the iPad...it's just a smaller size. I love it (multiplied by 1,000,000,000.)

Is your device an Apple product? If so, register with iTunes and go to the "App" section. You'll find hundreds, of not thousands, of cooking apps by using the Search function. I know the other device brands' apps have their versions, too.

Right now I have the following cooking/recipe Apps downloaded into my iPod. I keep them together in a folder named "Foodies."

Martha Stewart Cocktails (Includes appetizer recipes.)
Martha Stewart Cookies
Martha Stewart Eggs (Easter Egg dying)
Martha Stewart Whole Living (Smoothies)
Merilat Kitchen Helper (Lists of substitutions, conversions, etc.)
Apple Recipes
Avocados
CHOW Thanksgiving
Jamie Oliver
British Cuisines
Tea Terms
Cambells Kitchen

You can Google each of these for more info.

I have many more, but they're in my iTunes account and not actually in the iPod right now. I can "click" them, sync the device, and they'll be there.

This is just one of 24 folders I have filled in the iPod. I use it many times a day.

Occassionally I even listen to one or two of the 1,311 songs that are in it too! LOL
