Trying to Adjust Kids' Pix on CD

Can someone give me a quick lesson on how to fix a picture that is on a cd before I print it? Somehow I had my camera on the wrong setting. Aside from the obvious not having the kids positioned well regarding the sun, the picture looks faded. The trees were gorgeous, brilliant colors. The kids' turtlenecks were solid black. The grass was bright green. Plus, is there a way to take some of the glare off the sides kids' faces? I do not know how that grey spot got on the turtleneck one the child on the far right. It's not on other pictures.

The only picture software I have is Dell Paint Shop Jasc 8. I've tampered around and I just can't get it right.

Here is one of the shots I took. The quality here looks way worse than on when I pull up the picture from the cd. Not sure why. ?? It looks really grainy below. It's not that grainy.

I'm so mad at me! I used to take the best pix!! Grrrr.

I don't know if there is a quick fix for that photo. You have taken a photo where your main subject, your kids faces are in shadow, the trees and grass look faded in comparison because they are in full sun. In order to make the trees look the color they should the kids will become darker with the shadow across their face more pronounced.

I would bet it can be corrected but I think you will have to separate the kids from the back ground and change them separately.

Deb, I don't have an answer for you (I suspect that you need Photoshop), but I just want to say that I'm glad to finally "meet" your kids. They're adorable! (And I love that impish look in the eyes of the little one in front!) Even if the photo isn't technically perfect, it's a wonderful, warm, happy picture.

I could never get TWO kids to smile at the same time (without sticking out their tongues or making devil's horns behind the other's head).

Kylie, LMAO I was just saying that last night!!! Where in the world are we gonna put the Xmas tree??? I literally have NO room for one! The kids and DH will hate me, but we may have to get a tabletop one..either that, or it will have to come in the front door and stay there..te front door will have to be blocked off by it! Everyone will have to use the back door! O well. Maybe I could convinve them that we'll decorate the Majesty Palms instead, lol! O Xmas tree talk reminds me I have to get the decorations into the front yard, and go up into the attic and drag stuff down the ladder of death. Our attic ladder is directly over the basement stairs..if that ladder breaks..I'm so screwed. I'll fall straight into the basement onto the stairs.

You're right Rita. When you consider he started them in Pennsylvania, and then they survived in North Carolina, these should be some mega-survivors. I can't get over how huge his root systems are! and he sends such huge fans! I will have a ball planting mine. I added them in to my data-base last night. Woody got her on the 23rd, Lydia. I was at the clinic with my mom, getting some lab work done on her when he called so I was all hush-hush on the phone and my mother was so excited for us. There is a small similarity in the "how the kitten came to us" stories, though- isn't there? lol Full grown men and teenagers, who knew they were so sneaky? Nosy Parker has met the other cats but only for a few seconds, we're trying to let the big boys gradually get adjusted to the idea of a stranger in their midst. The dogs are real good with her, they are gentle and a tiny bit scared of her, probably because they see us standing guard over her, she's so tiny. She's about 7 weeks old, bottle-fed. Now she's eating kitten food like a champ and big-boy food when she sneaks over to their bowls. She and Paisley are in the bathroom together this AM, Paisley loves the cool tiles in our shower and I hope the kid isn't pestering her too much. We've got a lot of toys in there for her to entertain herself when she's locked in, safe from the other cats. I sure hope they accept her. Sammie especially, as the other 2 cats have never really accepted him. I want him to have a buddy.

I have walked several cemeteries looking for clues about my ancestors, and photographed important finds. The sadest one that I found was a husband-wife grave flanked by 5 smaller, closely spaced stones in a neat row. These 5 stones held names of their children, all who had died in infancy. The ages ranged from 2 days to 1 yr, one child immediately followed by another in time. This couple did finally have two more children who survived. Your first photo shows a tree with a stone at its base in the roots of the tree. This is a very good clue. The age of this tree is indicative of the age of this grave. The stone showing the names of a family with the same death dates were likely killed by accident - maybe a car crash, train or bus accident, or house fire. In rare csses, it could have been by murder or a muder-suicide. I have found a stone bearing the names of granddaughter and grandmother. The grandmother had been married 3 times - 1st marriages had ended by death of the husbands. However, the 2nd husband had died by jutifiable homicide and the family who buried this pair left off the surname of the husband who had been killed by homicide. On occasion, dual dates maybe found on very old stones. These dates will be in the range of January through March. This occurs due dual calendars that were in use: the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The Julian calendar began the year at Spring, or near the first day of April. because it was not an accurate calendar, it had drifted off by 10 days. The Gregorian calendar was devised to replace the Julian calendar. A system of leap days were added to keep this calendar in sync with the equinoxes and the New Year's d Day was moved to Jan. 1st. Adding a leap day every 4 years is tiny bit too much so about every 400 yrs, one leap day is omitted. Even with omission adjustment, the Gregorian calendar is not perfect, but is quite good and will not require other adjustments for several centuries. When the Gregoian calendar was introduced, it was not accepted by all, mostly those of certain protestant faiths because the Gregorian calendar was a Roman Catholic one, and it had 'messed' with the New Year Day. Easter Day did not change (much) since this day is based on a lunar calendar. Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon in spring, therefore, Easter moves around by almost a month. (Also, in the first year of the Gregorian calendar, all holidays took a move of 10 astronomical days, the error that had accrued in the older calendar.) However, much of the rest of the world adopted the much improved Gregorian calendar. The result was that in the religious settlements of the New World, both calendars were in use.

Hi again, Deb,

I just reread your post, and I'm wondering whether the problem is that you're trying to fix the photo on the CD. Is it rewriteable (CD-RW)? Maybe you'd have better luck by copying the file to your hard drive and then using your paint shop program. Then save to the CD (or to a different CD, if it's CD-R).

Thanks all! Yes, I've downloaded the picture onto my computer and I've been playing around with the Dell picture software.

Mgmsrk...yes, you're right...I think I have to figure out how to "correct" the two "layers"...one being the kids, the second being the background. When I focus on just one, the other "suffers." I can't even figure out how to use the crop tool! I want to crop the picture to eliminate most of the bottom (somewhat below the front child's head)...and to eliminate some from the top and sides. But I can't even do that!

I've done some minor "editing" in the past and it turned out okay, but this is just frustrating. It was a gorgeous day. The kids were SO cooperative (how often does THAT happen?!!) and I blew it! I'm so bummed!!

Sue, thank you! They're funny little kids! Each one is a cartoon character in his/her own way! One thing they love is getting their picture taken. I believe they think they're professional models at this point!

Those are really cute kids! It's still a better photo than I got of mine, since all yours are looking at the camera and three out of four are smiling. I wish I had some technical advise for you but I don't except for maybe...Did you try to edit the picture on your computer? I just upload my pictures directly from my camera to the computer, and I have editing options there. But I have noticed that the resolution generally suffers when I do edit them. But you can also upload to a place like Kodak Easy Share (used to be Ofoto) and there are editing options there as well. Good luck!

Anyway, I'm guessing this is to send out for the holidays? Here's the one I sent :-)

Mom - I have no advise (sorry) just wanted to say they are beautiful kids!!! What a great picture I hope you can get it fixed up. The girls look so much alike and that little guy - heee.

Proudmama - Also stunners - A sea of blue eyes! That is a great photo! I like the way the bigger guy is holding on to the little one.

So I can't resist - here's my little tt (tiny tyrant). I think I took like 40 shots and couldn't get a straight on smile!

If your camera's light meter read off of the black shirts, it would probably tend to wash out the background. It's pretty hard to correctly meter and reproduce the white fence, black shirts, and more neutral background all in one shot. Maybe next time you can spot meter off of a child's face, or use fill flash so that the foreground and background are both correctly exposed.

GREAT picture by the way. What a beautiful family.

Hmm. Five minutes of Photoshop yielded this.

Some obvious defects which could be fixed up if a little more time was spent! Just wanted to give you an idea.
