It's been a long time since I've done it but in Windows you save them to C://WINDOWS/Fonts

Google html codes for fonts and you'll pull up tutorial sites giving you the basic coding for color, bold, Italics, underscores, changing text sizes, etc. etc...

Just reread - you probably know the coding, but not how to save it. That I don't know...since I've gotten so familiar with the basic coding for the most used fonts, it becomes almost second nature to routinely code them in as needed/wanted.

Instead of adding fonts to my permanent ones I have a file under my documents that I named fonts. I have quite a collection there. If I want to use one I go to that folder, open and minimize the font I want to use. It will
then appear in your dropdown of fonts and you can select it from there.

I to have not done it in a long time, but I think you would go to control panel and the file font should be
there. Charlene

Just make a folder anywhere you can find it again. I have mine under my documents and name it fonts. Right click on the font...save as..name of font..put it in the folder named fonts. If you have another question just holler!!

Then when you want to use it...open it and minimize it to the bottom of your screen....and it will show up on your list of fonts. When you are done with it, just close it...I started this way back when on the computer help forum they were talking about installing a lot of fonts which would bog down your system...that was old Windows '98, so it might not be the case with more up-to-date operating systems...but doing as arosegirl says works very well...

When I opend the fonts it would not Right click on it, it only opened and thats it. It won't save :(

WOW, I found a pile of them and put them in a folder and now I can use them. Thanks for the help. Here is the video that showed me how. It was very easy, they have over 1001 fonts to choose from.

Be very careful adding fonts to where you have been directed. To many fonts can cause your computer to slow down. If you are putting them in C:Windows/fonts..
If you have made a separate folder somewhere else that is great, you can put any amount there. I love using different fonts.

About 4 version ago of Windows, I bought a package of 'true type' fonts and added to my computer. These have dragged along for each subsequent update of Windows and now I have forgotten how to activate or de-activate fonts from that set. Back then, memory and disk space was a premium, so the maker of that font utility held all the fonts in a compressed file set and only the "activated' ones were expanded and intalled into the Windows suite.

What I do remember is that 'true-type' fonts are recommended over other types. True type fonts are scalable and change size automatically when a page is zoomed. This is critical for graphics and drafting programs. These also have a wide range of scaled size.

And...I don't know if this is still true or not, but if you used a font "you" had in an e-mail and the person on the other end didn't have that particular font, their computer would pick the closest one to it that they "do" have. I knew a lady who did all kinds of neat things for her grandkids...one Halloween, she used a font with black cats. She wondered why they never remarked about her unique fonts. Well, they weren't getting them because they didn't have them on their computers...all her efforts were of no avail because they couldn't view her work. Her e-mail was viewed on their computers as just plain text. I think this is probably still true. That is another reason I like to put fonts in a folder...I can use them in my Word Documents that I want to print off and I don't mistakenly put them in an e-mail when I want to get "fancy".

I noticed that too. I copied & pasted them into a email, some showed up and some didn't. I don't know if the recipient got them or not, its just what I was seeing from my PC.

I "think" if you really wanted something different in an e-mail, you would have to compose it somewhere...like, say Word. Then, you would have to copy the whole thing into a program like PSP and save as a .jpeg..."then" put it into an e-mail...

Email will vary a lot with the email client used. I use PopPeeper and often don't use HTML or rich text so it wouldn't show. It'll sometimes show the HTML tags and be hard to read.

With Vista, you can put fonts into any folder, go to the font, right click it and click install and it'll install the font for you. You don't have to worry about putting it in a special folder. That way I just copy that folder to the other computer and add them as needed.

Yes it's a good idea to limit fonts but it's not as critical as it used to be. It's a good idea to uninstall fonts you don't use though. Really, a person doesn't need hundreds of fonts on their system. Often there's many that are so close they're nearly identical so it's a waste to keep all of them on there.

FWIW, some programs, like Word will allow you to embed the font into the document so it'll go with the file if you bring it to a system without the font. I have this set as default to save the entire font and not just what's in the document. That way I can edit if needed and have the font available.
