my daughter's childbirth ordeal.......

this was asked about on another post so i thought i would share.

.she had c-section with her first daughter and was scheduled for another, then went into labor. she delivered the baby naturally on dec 23rd and then they had trouble getting the placenta out. it was firmly attached to her uterus. they tried a d and c that didn't help. she continued to lose blood and went into shock. they were able to stabilize her heart and lungs then had to do a hysterectomy. they went home thursday and the baby, norah, had a cold. yesterday she was admitted to the hospital so they can observe her for a few days. by the way, they are in germany, i am not....and i can't get there because i am in a wheelchair. any good thoughts or prayers are welcome! we have since heard about many women dying from this. in fact, it is the #i killer of women in childbirth. we are so lucky.

Oh my goodness, you must feel so helpless and be worried sick. And baby has a cold?? That's just too much, isn't it? Have you been able to talk to her on the phone? Does she have help with baby when she returns home? (I mean extra help more than DH.)

I'm so sorry and wish your daughter a full recovery and return to home soon.

What an ordeal! Who is in the hospital, your daughter or the baby? I can just imagine how badly you want to be there with them.

Florence, glad to hear she's doing better, hopefully she will continue to thrive. Things like this go one of two ways, make you stronger, or totally depress you & can ruin your life. With me, it made me stronger, with someone else I know they started sinking and almost 3 years later are in a big deep hole. Just be sure to keep your eye on her. About my pain--it is still very painful in the thigh area---I had a bone scan on Thurs but will not know results till Tues--- Did you get the info I left in your other post? If you look here you can see that thigh pain can also come from the lumbar region. I also left you an address for acupuncture, she's very good. I actually had some relief when I saw her after my dad died (2006) but she's so far away, I couldn't drive myself & hubby couldn't take off 3 times a week to drive me. Not sure about if they will pay for an accident of that sort, but it's worth asking. The worse they can say is no, which I have a feeling they might. I hope your daughter is better soon- I totally feel for you. Mine was practicing gymnastics in her room one day and fell off her bed, slamming her forehead into a huge ceramic piggy bank that was beside her bed on the floor. Nothing more alarming than seeing your baby with blood on her face and not being totally sure if they're ok or not....I almost had a heart attack and cried as much as she did. Silver Quite interesting reading. I have thought about EX and how he must feel about DD, or any woman that has been in his life. I do understand the conceptual thinking behind the term "limerance". I had a man that I felt that way about once. I never told him, figuring that if he felt anything for me he would approach me. There were a few mixed signals, I thought but he never made an attempt that was something that I knew for sure showed he was interested in me. He had enough chances to do that and he didn't. He thought of me as a friend or sister I guess. Or he would have gone for a little "roll in the hay" if I would have. He even introduced me to a girlfriend that he began dating and ended up getting her pregnant and they later married. Ouch! With EX's past ( if what he has said is true ) he undoubtedly has great fear of rejection. Again, if what he says is true, he wanted my DD to stay with him, build a future with him and he wanted a family with us. There are too many things though that are negatives to the success of their relationship that he is completely out of touch with which makes me think that he has a break with normal thought processes. This is evident with other actions...his extensive lying and his criminal behavior. My DD did not want to marry or have children ( my goodness, she is only 20 ) and he did. Very much in fact. I don't know that she will ever change her mind but he had said that he would rather have had her and no kids than to not have her at all. I don't know that it would have been something he could have easily lived with though. The age difference is something that was too vast....11 years...when dealing with her age group. Had they met when she was in her 30's or 40's or older then it would not have been as big a deal. I am sorry for him when it comes to honest, heartfelt feelings that he might have had for my DD. The fact that he could install such fear ( and continues to do so ) and the fact that he has told so many lies negates all of that though. It sucks to be rejected. Our family histories have a lot to do with whether or not we can process the rejection in a healthy way. Most of us have been and some of us have stepped over a line while dealing with it that we cringe at after having healed a bit. It is important to teach our kids that when they deal with peers or a romantic interest people have a right to reject them. In the long run it is for the best. I don't know how much EX has control over when it comes to his emotions about the breakup. I am sorry that I can't talk to him. It just can't happen. I want him to get help and to go onto have a happy life. More importantly though I want him to leave my DD alone and let her move on. Thanks for the thread and the link Silversword.

thanks everyone, I go on trips with my DD21, we went to Paris this April break. And DD went wiht dad's family on a trip during her other break in the winter. In neither case DD forced herself on neither me nor her dad. But both I and X have more vacations that that. It would be normal if his DD would spend SOME of the vacations wiht him, but it is all of the vacation he has. KKNY DD27 and her mother had fights on travels, during those fights SO was forced to take sides (he took daughter's side), all those fights were bad on a relationship. It almost feels ot me that she was trying to stand between her dad and mom. Of course that's not what caused a divorce but I believe it contributed to it. woudl she stand between me and him? It is entirelly possible imamommy that she is trying to do just that, but it's been like this always. the only change is that SO finally stopped going just him and her and now she goes with us (or actually the way it looks like they go two of them and I am dragging along LOL). KKNY we went on many trips and vacations together but as we got more serious, DD27 wants to be wiht us all the time and since she is always here whenever dad has vacations, we simply cannot go anywhere anymore. i was looking forward to July vacation but now we can't even do that. On few occassions we planned on going somwhere ona trip, but DD changed her plans or alternated them, left earlier than plannned or flew in alter etc. My SO also cancelled his trip to college reunion past winter because DD27 decided to visit the last moment (when she found out he goes to reunion). Bizzare.

I am so sorry to hear this, she is very fortunate that she was able to come home. I do know of this happening to a young woman and she died. Her parents adopted the baby who is now a young woman. Prayers going out for you and your daughter and family. I know it can't be easy with you being so far away from her.

I pray that all goes well for your daughter and your grandchild. It must be very difficult for you to not be able to go see them. Will they be coming back to the US anytime soon?

I hope baby Norah recovers quickly and is home in the arms of her parents. I'm so sorry your DD had to go through such a terrible time. I know how worried you are, especially since you can't get to your loved ones.

Oh my gosh; I can't imagine your worry. From one mother to another, if I had the means, I would get you there. My daughter is only 30 minutes away and that would be to far if she went through what your daughter has. I really do wish I could help you!

thank you all for the kind words. it's the baby who is sick. i just talked with my daughter who, of course, is with norah and i could hear the poor baby wheezing and rattling. son in law is a research scientist working at a university in homburg, germany. they have been there about 2.5 years and will be there another 2 or so. fortunately, my daughter comes back a couple times a year. i could easily afford to go there but, after my aneurysm, i am confined to a wheelchair which wouldn't fit in an sirplane, couldn't go the length of the flight without breathing treatments due to having a trach, ans.....couldn't even get into their second floor apartment even if i could get to germany...... so i get to sit here and worry. what a situation!

Sending hugs and prayers for the family. But do have DD watch for RSV in the baby. My GGS had it and it left side effects. Make sure the baby has a crash cart in the room as when the little ones stop breathing, they have no time to get the cart to the room. Here is a mandatory requirement to have one in each pediatric room. The did not have one in he room, that is why he has some problems now, 4 years later.

What a terrible situation for you wanting to be with your daughter and can't be. I hope the baby is soon better and mom and baby are both healthy so you get to see them real soon.

Oh, dear. such a worry. It must be so difficult to be so far away and feel so helpless.I do hope and pray everything will be alright. It sounds like your daughter is doing well now. I hope all will be well for the baby, too. I remember my second daughter got pneumonia when she was just a few weeks old. She spent a week in an oxygen tent. It was very frightening. I was just thinking about it yesterday (and that was 44 years ago.) I was thinking how resilient babies really are. Best wishes to the new family and you try to keep calm. Even if you were there, all you could do is pray and you can do that at home, too.

thanks to everyone. it will be nice for them all to be healthy at once. her husband and older daughter have been sick for a couple of weeks, as well as she, and the step mom who flew over to help out has also caught it! it must be some nasty virus. i guess it's good that the baby is in a more sterile environment. thanks again.

Oh wow, that's so much to go through. I hope the baby gets well soon. And I'm glad your daughter is on the road to recovery. It must be heart breaking for her that she can't have anymore children, but good that she was able to have this baby.

I feel so bad for you. Thank heavens your daughter is doing okay and it's good baby Norah (I love that name) is in the hospital where she'll get good care. Remind your daughter to take care of herself--a hysterectomy is not an easy surgery. Praying they'll all be well soon and home for a visit!!
