my daughter's childbirth ordeal.......

this was asked about on another post so i thought i would share.

.she had c-section with her first daughter and was scheduled for another, then went into labor. she delivered the baby naturally on dec 23rd and then they had trouble getting the placenta out. it was firmly attached to her uterus. they tried a d and c that didn't help. she continued to lose blood and went into shock. they were able to stabilize her heart and lungs then had to do a hysterectomy. they went home thursday and the baby, norah, had a cold. yesterday she was admitted to the hospital so they can observe her for a few days. by the way, they are in germany, i am not....and i can't get there because i am in a wheelchair. any good thoughts or prayers are welcome! we have since heard about many women dying from this. in fact, it is the #i killer of women in childbirth. we are so lucky.

Oh my goodness, you must feel so helpless and be worried sick. And baby has a cold?? That's just too much, isn't it? Have you been able to talk to her on the phone? Does she have help with baby when she returns home? (I mean extra help more than DH.)

I'm so sorry and wish your daughter a full recovery and return to home soon.

What an ordeal! Who is in the hospital, your daughter or the baby? I can just imagine how badly you want to be there with them.

Florence, glad to hear she's doing better, hopefully she will continue to thrive. Things like this go one of two ways, make you stronger, or totally depress you & can ruin your life. With me, it made me stronger, with someone else I know they started sinking and almost 3 years later are in a big deep hole. Just be sure to keep your eye on her. About my pain--it is still very painful in the thigh area---I had a bone scan on Thurs but will not know results till Tues--- Did you get the info I left in your other post? If you look here you can see that thigh pain can also come from the lumbar region. I also left you an address for acupuncture, she's very good. I actually had some relief when I saw her after my dad died (2006) but she's so far away, I couldn't drive myself & hubby couldn't take off 3 times a week to drive me. Not sure about if they will pay for an accident of that sort, but it's worth asking. The worse they can say is no, which I have a feeling they might. I hope your daughter is better soon- I totally feel for you. Mine was practicing gymnastics in her room one day and fell off her bed, slamming her forehead into a huge ceramic piggy bank that was beside her bed on the floor. Nothing more alarming than seeing your baby with blood on her face and not being totally sure if they're ok or not....I almost had a heart attack and cried as much as she did. Hi, I'm new here. I've been looking online for ways to cope with living with a very sloppy person. It seems nearly impossible to change a slob. I found one site about living with a sloppy partner. I have read such sad accounts, couples that marry (I guess totally unaware of how the other really keeps house), and end up divorcing. I notice that mostly, the tidy, organized person, the one who prefer to live in a sanitary and orderly house, ends up having to change, ends up having to relax their standards, ends up having to back down, and having to live in silent frustration. It seems so unfair, how slobs are able to have/take such control. They dictate how things are going to be, how things going to look, smell, etc. Slobs don't see a need to change how they are, all they have to do is drive the clean person crazy. My daughter and her child and I share a rental since she split up with her bf. Every day I wake up and cringe, dreading what the day will hold. It starts with my daughter never waking to my gd crying and screaming. I have to go in her room to wake her and I dread it because I just know I'm going to have an out of body experience. The smell of her room hits me as I open the door. This sets me off. She doesn't bother to flush her toilet. She lived in poverty with her bf for several years and developed some really bad habits, like half the time they didn't have tp, so she doesn't always bother to use it. Her floor always has junk thrown about, clothes all over, clean mixed with dirty, who know which is which, dirty silverware and drinking glasses she has repeatedly been asked not to take to her room, pop cans spilled or half full and just waiting to be spilled by her child. A big stinky mess, squalor. And there she is snoring away, none of this bothering her, not even a bit. Sigh She makes a mess in every other room, has to be reminded to clean up after herself, or she won't do it. Her cleaning up after herself barely qualifies as cleaning. She works full-time and goes to school, so she is busy, but she uses this as an excuse every time we get into it over her piggish ways. We get into some big screaming matches, and I'm always the loser. Nothing ever changes. She might go to her room and make an angry attempt at straightening out, but not really cleaning, slamming things and yelling so I hear her. I feel like I'm living with a child, not a young adult. I'm having to parent her, and should not have to. I'm near retirement age with my many joint pains, it was a struggle to keep up with my own chores when I lived alone. and now I feel like I work nonstop and get nowhere. I'm sad and angry over all of this, and when depression sets in, it really affects how I feel and what I'm able to do. None of this filth bothers her. Her brand new car, the new car smell has been replaced with the smell of rotting food. She is so gross. I sometimes lose my mind, especially when the smell from her room makes it's way downstairs. I have simply lost it and have started cleaning her room while she's at work, because I just can't take it anymore. I have found dirty diapers tossed in the cabinet under the sink, pads with dried blood thrown on the floor by the toilet, scum with hair, dried toothpaste and makeup on every inch of her sink. I can't understand how someone can live comfortably in such an unsanitary environment. Disgusting. Thanks for reading my long vent about what I'm living with. Thank you for your comments.

I am so sorry to hear this, she is very fortunate that she was able to come home. I do know of this happening to a young woman and she died. Her parents adopted the baby who is now a young woman. Prayers going out for you and your daughter and family. I know it can't be easy with you being so far away from her.

I pray that all goes well for your daughter and your grandchild. It must be very difficult for you to not be able to go see them. Will they be coming back to the US anytime soon?

I hope baby Norah recovers quickly and is home in the arms of her parents. I'm so sorry your DD had to go through such a terrible time. I know how worried you are, especially since you can't get to your loved ones.

Oh my gosh; I can't imagine your worry. From one mother to another, if I had the means, I would get you there. My daughter is only 30 minutes away and that would be to far if she went through what your daughter has. I really do wish I could help you!

thank you all for the kind words. it's the baby who is sick. i just talked with my daughter who, of course, is with norah and i could hear the poor baby wheezing and rattling. son in law is a research scientist working at a university in homburg, germany. they have been there about 2.5 years and will be there another 2 or so. fortunately, my daughter comes back a couple times a year. i could easily afford to go there but, after my aneurysm, i am confined to a wheelchair which wouldn't fit in an sirplane, couldn't go the length of the flight without breathing treatments due to having a trach, ans.....couldn't even get into their second floor apartment even if i could get to germany...... so i get to sit here and worry. what a situation!

Sending hugs and prayers for the family. But do have DD watch for RSV in the baby. My GGS had it and it left side effects. Make sure the baby has a crash cart in the room as when the little ones stop breathing, they have no time to get the cart to the room. Here is a mandatory requirement to have one in each pediatric room. The did not have one in he room, that is why he has some problems now, 4 years later.

What a terrible situation for you wanting to be with your daughter and can't be. I hope the baby is soon better and mom and baby are both healthy so you get to see them real soon.

Oh, dear. such a worry. It must be so difficult to be so far away and feel so helpless.I do hope and pray everything will be alright. It sounds like your daughter is doing well now. I hope all will be well for the baby, too. I remember my second daughter got pneumonia when she was just a few weeks old. She spent a week in an oxygen tent. It was very frightening. I was just thinking about it yesterday (and that was 44 years ago.) I was thinking how resilient babies really are. Best wishes to the new family and you try to keep calm. Even if you were there, all you could do is pray and you can do that at home, too.

thanks to everyone. it will be nice for them all to be healthy at once. her husband and older daughter have been sick for a couple of weeks, as well as she, and the step mom who flew over to help out has also caught it! it must be some nasty virus. i guess it's good that the baby is in a more sterile environment. thanks again.

Oh wow, that's so much to go through. I hope the baby gets well soon. And I'm glad your daughter is on the road to recovery. It must be heart breaking for her that she can't have anymore children, but good that she was able to have this baby.

I feel so bad for you. Thank heavens your daughter is doing okay and it's good baby Norah (I love that name) is in the hospital where she'll get good care. Remind your daughter to take care of herself--a hysterectomy is not an easy surgery. Praying they'll all be well soon and home for a visit!!
