Cool scenery, and love those oil on water drops! Here's a sight I'm looking forward to seeing again on our foothill drives - the Western Kingbird. This is from last spring, and this guy let us get really close in the car as I kept photographing:-)

Our condo is in Kahana, which is just north of the Kaanapali Beach Resort area. In other words, a looong drive from the summit of Mt. Haleakala! Although I can manage to get up much earlier while on vacation than I can during the regular work week, being at the summit in time for sunrise is just too much for me... even too much for hubs, who keeps saying he wants to see the sunrise and then bike ride down, then changes his mind...

What's amazing to me about being at the summit, is standing on the ground, yet being above the clouds. Each time we do this, I have to stop and get out of the car (usually on the way back down), and walk through and touch the clouds. It's an awesome feeling.

If you look at the center of the photo, just a bit "inward" from the edge of the clouds, you can see where the road is...

Thanks all for doing this thread each day. they have been the highlight of my past week. Haven't been able to go outside and barely able to look out the window so these have been my look into the world.

Lindsey, I spent a week in January of 1980 camping on Maui. It was B.C. (before children) I was camped at a beach park halfway to Hana and got up in time to make the summit before sunrise. It was fantastic and so worth the effort.

We've enjoyed Haleakala as well. It looks like the moon--so other-worldly.
