Small recipe booklet storage

Does anyone have a great way to store those little recipe booklets that come with small appliances? I have kept most of mine, but haven't found a way to store them other than stuffing them all into an 11"x14" Priority mailer and then storing them in a cabinet.

My large appliance manuals are all in 3-ring binders - the manuals are 3-hole punched first. If they were too thick for our little home puncher, I just tucked them into the binder or into the pocket of the binder. I did the same for those loose recipes that I've collected over the years. Those binders are in the same place as the envelope of recipe booklets - in the cabinet above the OTR MW.

Any interesting storage possibilities here?

I have a "junk drawer" which contains all directions, installation instructions, recipe pamphlets and warrantee docs for everything I own....and until recently, evry thing I ever did own!
It all goes into the drawer....and nothing else goes in there.
Recently I needed repair on my 21 year old Jenn-aire counter top vented grill...the repairman said he wished he had the original installation manuel....and I produced it!

Years ago I bought (in an antique store) a wooden box that yeast was shipped in many years ago. That is what holds my little booklets of all types.

NCHFP has some recipes (chilifreak is right, need lots of vinegar since peppers and garlic are low-acid, though you should always follow an approved recipe including jar size and processing time, don't guess). Here's the website. pH must be below 4.6 to boil rather than pressure can. The Joy of Pickling by Linda Ziedrich also has some pepper recipes, Small Batch Preserving by Ellie Topp has (from what I hear on Harvest) a good hot sauce recipe, and of course there's the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving. Also check out the Harvest forum. I used most of my peppers in salsa last year, but did can a couple of pints of red and green jals in white wine vinegar (Joy of Pickling recipe) for DH. Haven't harvested much this year but stuck a hot Portugal in each jar of refrigerator dills I was making. Still waiting for pods to ripen... cooksnsews, although Canada has guidelines for canning and they are different in some instances than ours here in the states, they just don't seem to have the "oh my G*d, you're going to die if you do that" reaction to some old canning methods that we do here in the United States. For instance, I didn't water bath Chase's dill pickles when I made them for Dad Pickles get soft and mushy if they are BWB. I told Dad it wasn't recommended by the government agencies and he told me he was over 70 and would eat the blasted pickles the way he liked them, LOL. The reaction I got from my Canadian family members when Dad brought out homecanned dill pickles was something like "eh, you know they say you shouldn't do that any more". Here, even if I tell people how I canned them and what the ramifications could be, I will be chastised about poisoning my family and ebe told how those pickles should only be disposed of while wearing a haz-mat suit for fear of contamination. I think everyone should know the risks they are taking and then decide whether they want to take them. Being poisoned by jam is pretty low on the risk factor scale. As for water bathing jam, I've done it for years, Grandma even did it because she hated paraffin and found that lids were just so much more consistent. LindaC is the only person I know that still uses the stuff but I would eat her jam without a second thought, it's just not that big a danger. The Australian version, provided by Kellogg's on many packets of their Nutri-grain product. The nuts of the title are of course peanuts, the bolts are the shape of the cereal product. I have made this countless times. Sometimes I've added a packet of dried French Onion Soup to the mixture. Nuts and Bolts 250g butter 2 tablespoons oil 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon garlic salt 1 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 500g KelloggÂs Nutri-Grain 500g salted mixed nuts Melt butter and oil together over low heat, add Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, paprika and cayenne. Combine Nutri-Grain and nuts, place in a large baking dish. Pour butter mixture over and bake at 125C for about 1 hour, turning every 15 minutes with an egg slice. Cool. I don't have a lot of special 'microwave' recipes. I just wing it. I cook most of my veges in the microwave. I don't have to think about it much, because I just press the 'frozen vege' or 'root vege' button and the microwave does the thinking for me. You should get a little recipe book if you buy the microwave brand new. Use those recipes as a guide for other recipes. If you can possibly manage it, get a convection microwave - that way you can use it as an ordinary oven as well as a microwave oven, and you can combine the two methods (excellent for things like roast dinners), and you can get a nice 'browned' finish on things like cakes. It will add to the versatility of recipe choices. Microwave Bread Pudding 1 can of cherry pie filling (or other fruit) 4 slices of white bread- crusts removed 1/4 cup butter or margarine 1 cup milk 3 eggs 1/2 cup sugar 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond essence pinch cinnamon Place pie filling in a 1.5 litre casserole dish. Cube bread and place over pie filling. Melt margarine in microwave about 45-60 seconds and drizzle over bread. Sprinkle on lemon juice. Beat together, eggs, milk, sugar and essence with a fork and pour over bread and pushing down with fork to moisten bread. Sprinkle on some cinnamon. Microwave 50% power 17-19 minutes uncovered or until centre appears set. Serve warm or chilled with whipped cream. Recipe tested with a 650 watt oven. You may have to vary time with your oven. Hint: Different microwave ovens use different amounts of power (wattage). To convert a recipe from 500 watts to 600-650 watts, add 10% of the cooking time at the end of cooking. To convert 700 watts back to 600-650, reduce cooking time by 5-10%. Most of ours go into files that we store in DH's office's filing cabinets. When we moved to this house they had all the appliance manuals unopened in their original packaging.

I used to stuff mine into the kitchen junk drawer. When we redid the kitchen last summer, I promised myself that the kitchen junk drawer would NOT be the place where small appliance manuals and recipe booklets would end up. That's when I transferred large appliance manuals into the 3-ring binders, and discovered that the dishwasher's was missing. (No matter; replaced it online free!)

I like the idea of the page protector sheets inside 3-ring binders. There's no shortage of old 3-ring binders in THIS house, though some say stuff like "Math" and "Biology" on the spine. (They're leftover from the DD's HS days.)

My favorite recipes are right on the package, like Fettucini Alfredo on the noodle box, chocolate cake on the cocoa powder can, chocolate chip cookies on the chocolate morsels bag,etc. Anybody have a suggestion?

Cut then off of the box or copy into your recipe file....some day they won't be on the box any more...like the recipe for pastry cream that was on the Jello vanilla pudding box for a while...I am still looking.
And I dug my favorite angel food cake recipe out of the garbage! I had thrown the box of Swan's Down away when I realized the recipe wasn't on the new box!

Linda, sometimes the recipe still appears to be on the package, but then they CHANGE it. That happened to me a number of years ago with Ghirardelli ground chocolate - they changed their brownie recipe from a cake=like brownie to a fudge-y brownie. Fortunately for me, I'd saved the old recipe!

I took some of those on-the-back-of-the-package recipes, cut them off, and then mounted them on paper. Now they're three-hole punched and in the notebook.

On that pastry cream Jello vanilla pudding box - how long ago? I have a cookbook here called "More Favorite Brand Name REcipes" - recipes that used to be on the back of boxes and package - it doesn't have pastry creme, but this is the MORE book, not the first one. And this is from the 70s or early 80s. Have you googled it?
