Keeping Crusty Bread Crusty

Bread with a crispy crust is so good but I've never been able to keep it crisp over night, whether store bought or homemade. To keep it from drying out, it is necessary to wrap it in plastic. That guarantees that the crust will soften. Bakeries use plastic bags perforated with tiny pin pricks. I think the intention is to create a balance of humidity which will keep the crust crispy and the bread soft. It has never worked for me.

Is it possible to keep crusty bread crusty without drying it out?
