If you want to get away from the wood trim, go with something light but warm in tone. Pure white would be too harsh; I think an off white, like antique or Navajo, would be better suited to the warmth of a cherry floor.

Kitchen Witch. I agree. I've been looking for something soft. I want it to blend not stick out. I went to Kelly Moore yesterday and bought Sand Pebble for the walls. I'm going to try a sample. I aslo bought a coordinating color that's almost a deep khaki green, #196. We'll see.

Brazilian cherry is a little like mohagony - beautiful. I can't imagine it being "too much" with similar trim - it would look extremely rich and elegant and my suggestion would be to leave the dark trim because the BC will get quite dark with time. I just spent several years stripping off all the paint from my trim so I could get back to the original dark wood. It's beautiful and if still in good shape, may end up increasing the value of your house.

I couldn't figure out what trim to use when I was restoring the house. I wanted to use as much of the original as possible - most probably birch stained to look like mohogany, which was common in the NE back in the 1800s. I put in a rosewood floor but couldn't find original baseboards. I ended up buying mohagany and staining that to match. But the rest of the trim now matches the baseboards and looks great.

The more wood, the better, IMO. But I have a Mission Style house and that may not appeal to you. It is what people first notice however, and why I bought the house.

In another room, because the floor wood is purple, I couldn't think of a way to match it and didn't want to have custom purpleheart moldings made. Since the walls were a kind of pink, I took a vert little bit of that and mixed into a bright white gloss, softening it, and then used that for the trim. That tied everything together.

I still have one room to finish and it has a BC floor. I will probably use the mohogany trim there because I can't imagine contrasting with the BC floor, which has now become quite dark.

Cabins generally have something like knotty pine. You have something quite different. Put in some nice area rugs, some nice lamps, and see how warm and wonderful your home is!

Just had installed bc in dining room. The existing early americ floor molding looks nice IMO. I have r and q in the adjoining kitchen so I can see a liter contrast that I would not like as well in the moldingIMO.

We had Brazilian cherry floors put in a few years ago - we took out the quarter round trim (white) that was there and put matching wide Brazilian Cherry base moulding. We absolutely love it and are so glad we did - elegant not cabiny! The room looks richer, its not "too much" at all and it is easy to clean (vs our white or neutral molding which constantly needs to be cleaned/touched up with paint).

Everyone has different tastes, that's what makes us all unique

When I walk into a home and it has matching base or ¼ round, I say "nice trim" The trim, takes away from the wood floors.

Personally I prefer, Base and trim, to be painted like the rest of the trims in the home, unless the walls are wood also.

We just had BC floors put in the kitchen and I LOVE them...the color and variation is so rich! We are doing a slightly off-white trim (we're having all the trim made to match the rest in this 1880's house), but we're painting it slightly off-white to match the white of the kitchen cabinets. I actually like the contrast because the floors are so striking. I think white trim and baseboard looks fresh and clean, personally, but if we had the original trim in the kitchen unpainted, we probably would have kept it stained not painted. I like that there's no other dark wood in the kitchen to compete with the dramatic look of the floors.

But of course, it's just personal preference!!

Sarah, what color of white did you choose for your baseboards? I personally like the painted look. I guess it all depends what color I paint my walls. What color are your walls?

I haven't picked the white color for the trim yet, but my BIL is a sales rep for SW, so I'm sure we'll go with one of their just slightly off-white colors--I want it to match the white cabinets which are Brookhaven in Nordic White.

The walls are SW Wool Skein--a medium taupe/tan color. I really like it a lot and it's just dark enough to contrast with the white trim (we have one doorway with the original trim already painted white) but not so much that it will clash with the subway tile backsplash we're doing (WZ Orielle in Tanager--a light greenish/tan color).

Good luck!! Do whichever you think will look good. I really LOVE the floors, so I think with the trim and baseboard white, it will just look that much darker and richer. But again, to each his own!! I'm not really big on mixing wood tones, but I know it does look good in some homes...
