Is chili considered soup? It's slightly preferred over my nearly favorite, most any kind of meat in vegetable soup. Although, good chicken wild rice is probably tied with it. Actually I prefer soups to be more like a stew. Thick, so you can stand a spoon upin it, hearty, and good sized chunks. Crackers, toast or bread?

Not that I can recall. The Bataan Death March ... and the years following ... was hell for those who went through it. When I went to Korea, in `53, just over 10 years later, we left Los Angeles by freighter and travelled on the Great Circle route, far north of Hawaii (put a string on a globe) ... for 18 days out of sight of land ... which gives one direct proof of how large the world is. As we approached the Phillipines, a typhoon was building and we went down the west side of Luzon, then turned in to 30-mile long Manila Harbour ... so the first sight of land that I had in the Orient was ... Corregidor, the rocky island fortress at the outer end of the harbour ... where the last surviving U.S. Army people holed up, following the Japanese invasion. It made a major impression on me that, apart from the results of World War II, we could not have been in that part of the world, helping people develop a better life. Had our ship been in those waters, ten years earlier ... we`d have been sunk ... or interned! And much of our work originally, just after the Korean War, was helping people who had left their home areas as refugees, as a result of political divisions and war, with nothing but the clothes on their backs, as they tried to get their lives back in some kind of order ... in an area much of which had been badly battered, fought over 3 or 4 times. Not a pleasant experience. Let us commit ourselves to seeking ways to build bridges of understanding between peoples, rather than warfare. "The Wind in the Willows" has always been special for me. My absolute favourite teacher read it to us when we were in Grade 4 and it was the first book that I ever asked for as a present for Christmas. She also read us "The Water Babies" and "The Mill on the Floss".

No, I would never do it. It just seems to be extremely unhealthy to me. Besides the worry of something going wrong, that jerking of the bungee cord pulling the person seems like it would be unhealthy for the back/neck/whatever.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas I did a 1000-piece puzzle on the kitchen table. I do this every year, and MUST be done the week before Christmas so my table is free again.

Yesterday! We're doing a 1000 piece puzzle, a winter scene, almost finished. We get them from White Mountain puzzles.

Back when my kids were little and I was a SAHM.

I never think of puzzles, or how I might still enjoy them, until I read a post here.

Probably a 20-piece one when DD was little. :-) I don't like jigsaw puzzles, she doesn't either.

about a year ago. Love working on them, and then hate working on them. They suck you in... and you just can't leave them alone till they are finished.

Almost a year ago.
Maddie LOVES puzzles.
About 10 years ago DH and I did one. I'm not even sure we finished it to tell the truth. The table was set up in here forever.

My DH and I put on together this last September. I had just had my hysterectomy and was going stir crazy so we bought a puzzle and put it together. It was a bunch of miniature Hershey bars. Usually I don't have the patience for something like that but it was fun spending that time with DH.

The grands and I worked on a puzzle the week after Christmas while they were here. We finished most of it.

Was going to say when my grandson was small and they had those big pieces, 6 and you were done. Must have been 3 years ago when we had a puzzle that came on the top of the Christmas popcorn tin. I tried to finish it, no one would help so it got put in a plastic bag, put inside the washed popcorn tin and taken to the thrift shop. There, done, brushing off my hands. I can do counted cross stitch all day, but have no patience for jigsaw puzzles.

It's been many years.

When Sue and I used to work 'em together ... she'd put in about nine pieces to my one!

She was smart! Had a good eye for shapes, among various other skills, I guess.

Last winter I started one, and didn't finish it, so I packed it up. I might start it again. I do at least one a day here on the computer.
