Potato-cheese topped with bacon bits and green onions.

French Onion, with a thick slice of French bread covered with melted cheese on top of the soup

Corn chowder.

Homemade turkey soup.

Homemade chicken noodle soup w/celery and carrots.

Do I have to pick just one? That's a hard one....I would have to say Seafood Gumbo at Pappadeaux's in Houston. But then a goooood French Onion is at the top of the list, or a really good chicken noodle with matzo. Ohohoh, I forgot, hot and sour soup, too. Now you've gone and done it!! I'm hungry! Have to go raid the cupboards. LOL

Homemade oyster stew OR all of the above so far. LOL

What a tough question today, Sandy.....love them all. I guess right at the moment I could go for some chicken and dumplings.

There is not BEST soup, or favorite soup, just some I like a tiny bit more than others! :)

Tortilla soup, has got to be the tops, of all my favorites.

Lobster bisque with a sprinkle of Busha Browne's spicy hot pepper sherry at a restaurant in Key Largo. Can't remember the name, but it was so good we went for bisque two days in a row. I dream about that soup!

Also a cold, thick and creamy strawberry soup at the Balsam's in New Hampshire. Dream about that one, too.

Not to be a crab - but it's er-ster .. which I seldom get.

First had some at old uncle Charlie's house at a family party for his birthday, about 1939, when World War II started, with the oysters provided annually by a fairly wealthy (for those days) relative.

Used to have them sometimes in Korea, as well, with a lady bringing them to our house while en route to peddle them in Seoul.

Split pea soup or minestrone. I generally don't like other kinds of soup.

A thick homemade vegetable soup.

I can't begin to name just one. It has to be homemade to be on my favorites list though.... chicken with homemade noodles OR dumplings, chili, beef/veggie with lots of barley, ham and bean, french onion, and on and on and on... I love soups!

A pasta e fagiole recipe that has been made in our family for years. The original recipe is from a cookbook author and restaurant owner from the 1960's-1970's, Alfredo Viazzi. My mom worked at Random House and made many friends there, including cookbook authors, of which he was one. He had a few restaurants in Manhattan, one that was close to where we lived. We went there frequently and the pasta e fagiole was served there. Outstanding!

Currently, it's Pumpkin Soup with Italian Sausage.

2nd fave- Spanish Bean Soup, with chorizos.

French Onion, with cheese, no bread.

I like so many kinds of soup, I just can't choose one.

Is chili considered soup? It's slightly preferred over my nearly favorite, most any kind of meat in vegetable soup. Although, good chicken wild rice is probably tied with it. Actually I prefer soups to be more like a stew. Thick, so you can stand a spoon upin it, hearty, and good sized chunks.

Crackers, toast or bread?
