I have a set of black and white p*nis salt and pepper shakers. Does that count? A friend bought it for me as a joke when I was in my 20s.

My grandma, who passed away quite a few years ago, collected S&P shakers and had litterally hundreds! When we had an auction for her estate, that collection was included. Lucky people who got them - she had some rare ones along with a lot of souveniers.

Rita :
Are you giving them away ???
Lou

I have one pair of cute S&P shakers, shaped like the letters "S" and "P" with a baker's head on each one. I don't use them because I almost never use salt at the table, and I don't buy ground black pepper - only whole peppercorns. I do have a collection of pepper mills, however, which I find much more practical. I keep two or three of these on the dining table, but no salt shakers. If I were going to put pepper in a pepper shaker, it would have to be cayenne.

rita, i have a collection. i didn't mean to haev one, but it happened. i have dog and bone, several sets of pigs, teddy bears that were my grandmom's, geese, ducks, cows, toaster and bread, every holiday and so many more. when we have outside parties, i always use them and put different ones on the tables.

my mom not too long ago gave me a set that belonged to her mom, which are proudly displayed in one of my china cabinets.

do you have a collection of them?

maryanne

I have some - a cactus and skull, a snake - head's the salt, tail's the pepper, dog and fireplug, Roy Rogers lunch box and thermos, pigs, a farmer and a cow, a pair of pinecones. I try not to get too cute. I also have some nice silver salt cellars. I started innocently enough, and and some are gifts. My dear grandson loves them, but they are all breakable, so it will be a few more years before I let him at them.

Rita: I was kidding again. I did have about 100 pairs but they are gone now.

I had a Collectible Booth a little while ago.I think most of them went by by.
Other things become priority.
Lou

I have a rooster and a hen, which I got because we don't really use salt and pepper at the table, but every time my inlaws come they ask for it. So I got the chicken set to tease them a little :-) I kind of like them actually....

Oh goodness. I must have 40 pairs. I've never collected anything in my life, and suddenly decided I wanted salt and pepper shakers. I was on a mission for a while, but now I only pick a pair up when I really, really like it. I've got chickens, alligators, snowmen, squirrels, ducks, snails, strange looking people, jukeboxes...and on and on.

My husband takes them all down and washes them once in a while, which is something I would probably never do...I married a keeper. :D

I don't, but I can definitely understand the attraction. Some of them are really imaginative.

Lars, someone needs to design functional AND fun salt and pepper grinders for those of us who don't use shakers! (Hint, hint)

My grandma has a large collection of salt and pepper shakers, I would love to have them some day. Growing up I would look at them and all the different kinds and it was fun to see all the different and unique ones. But my Aunt gets all the contents of the house some day so probably won't get them.

I don't but I have a friend who does. So I keep an eye out for any that are really interesting or unusual to buy as gifts for her.

I used to collect mortar & pestle sets but when I remodeled the kitchen I didn't have a place for them anymore. My original piece that started me collecting them was my mother's mother's mother's M/P, which is brass and very heavy. It still sits in my kitchen but it's the only one. The others are now relegated to a back bedroom.

Renee, are these functional yet fun?
