Water Damage to Engineered Wood Floor - Vinyl Chair Mat?

Hi,

Any thoughts on the following would be greatly appreciated.

We installed engineered wood flooring on slab in 3 rooms of our house ~2 years ago. In our study, within the first 6 months, the floor buckled/cupped with what appeared to be water damage. The damage occurred in the middle of the study (2'x2' area). We have found no source for the water damage (no leaking pipes, sprinklers seem fine, etc.), and had the flooring repaired. The damage reappeared again within 6 months.

Again, we have no signs of a leak or any other water source. However, we do use a vinyl chair mat, and the damage has occurred both times under the mat. Our installer seems convinced that the vinyl mat would not cause the damage (he has never seen a vinyl mat cause damage in more than 10 years of installations), but it seems odd that the damage would occur both times in the same location. Could the vinyl mat seems trap natural slab moisture and then cause the wood floor to cup/separate? Has anyone heard of this happening, or does this seem a likely culprit? Obviously, we want to identify the source of the problem before having the floors repaired again.

Thanks for any thoughts!
