Pros & cons of 3/8 in vs. 1/2 in engineered

So I'm trying to figure out what is better for my purposes and I'd like to hear what you think is the pros & cons for the 3/8 in vs. 1/2 in thick engineered. Assuming they had the same ply used and same species.

Here is what I can think of

3/8" pros

- cheaper

- easy to find

3/8" cons

- can't have as thick wear layer

1/2" pros

- thicker wear layer possible

1/2" cons

- more expensive and harder to find

However I'm thinking there has to be something more to it as to what the pros and cons are.

We are suddenly faced with having to pick another floor and one that is in stock somewhere because the one we'd picked is on eternal back order. We had picked a 1/2" thick with satin finish, and square edges. The last two are things I don't want to budge on, but have a hard time to find so trying to figure out if 3/8" would be something we should consider. I know it is just 1/8" difference, but all info out there never discusses why to choose one vs. the other.

We want it to last with normal wear and tear around 20 years.
