hot air heat - plenum or Hydronic?

What type of hot air heat is better? I have a plenum oil hot air system that must be replaced immediately as the heat exchanger is cracked, but I have been told by several furnace companies that a hydronic system is the way I should go. It's much more expensive.

Is it better for them, or me? Does it deliver better heat? Is it more efficient? I can not seem to find information comparing the two types.

I know a hydronic system can also include a boiler to heat our hot water, but I have a good hot water heater already. Plus, I wonder if it actually can deliver enough hot water for our needs - lots of long showers to wash our hair. The new boiler alone would cost $2100, which seems a lot to me.
