Alex mostly, we were moving it in place, about a foot over and one side just snapped in two. I almost cried. Reading the instruction booklet after the fact, it says do not push to move, especially on carpet. So now I don't know if they will replace the peice for free. We pushed it toward the wall. It's too heavy for two people to lift and move. It's also missing two screws for one of the drawers so I have to wait to move all my junk into the drawers and up in the cubby holes. The desk is really pretty for a piece of junk you can't move without it snapping in two-lol. It has a large desktop that looks like marble. So, I'm going to try and get a replacement peice and hope it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. Then bring in everyone and lift it to move it the rest of the way up against the wall. ) :

I think if you go online to whatever company's website they may replace it for you. I have had missing parts and damaged parts in things like that before and they just shipped what was needed free of charge. Good luck Kath!

Here's what Tammy, the queen of dehydrating, has to say about herbs. "Dehydrate2store" "Prior to dehydrating, never chop or cut any parts of the herb that you will be dehydrating (leaves, petals, etc.). This will release oils and reduce the flavor of your finished product. Instead, dry the plant as a whole and then break or crush after fully dehydrated. Keep your dehydrator between 90-100Ã¯Â¿Â½F when dehydrating herbs. If you wash your herbs first, dry any excess water (hang upside down to air dry or fold between a paper towel) from your herbs before placing them in your dehydrator." From me, Basil does have oil in it, and it can take longer to dry. BUT 12 hours is way too long so I would guess it's either the oil, or maybe too wet when put in? Also, the larger the leaf, the longer it takes. I would also bet that humidity may be a factor too. All in all, Good luck! Hey, all that oil will mean some great tasting basil though!

Sorry I forgot your other questions. Then I know according to the new guidelines you let the canner sit for 10min after gauge registers 0 and then take the lid off and take the jars out but would there be any harm in letting the jars sit for another 10 min with the lid off before taking them out ? It's let the canner reach zero and then remove the weight/counterweight. Then wait an additional 10 mins before removing the lid. If you want to wait an additional 10 mins. it won't hurt anything - I sometimes do so to let the jar contents stop boiling. But I wouldn't let the jars sit in the canner any longer than that. On my gas burner it takes quite a long time for the venting to start at the temperature level I'm doing it at - otherwise the pressure goes higher than it should be at a later stage and if I turn it down it causes fluctuations in temperature and pressure and siphoning. Is there any problem with this except for obviously the time issue? NOt really except that the food is getting heated/cooked longer. Still that is better than ending up with a lot of siphoning. But try this: there is a span of time between when you put the weight on and when it coes up to pressure. You can adjust the heat during that time without causing any problems. In other words, use max heat to get it started steaming, then while it is building up steam lower the heat just a bit. Once it has vented for 10 mins. put the weight on and reduce the heat a bit more and leave it there during the processing. With practice you soon learn where the knob needs to be for ideal processing - mark it. That way you can use full heat to build up the steam and then once the weight is on trun the dial to that mark and let it run. Follow me? Dave

Remember, all of these plants evolved to grow under "natural" conditions, aka the day/night cycle. During the day, the plant makes food for itself via photosynthesis. It puts most of it's effort into this during the day. During the night, when it can't make food, it uses it and works on growth and restoring nutrient supplies through the roots. While 24/7 light means it makes as much food for itself as possible, the plant is also programmed to focus on that as much as possible when it has light available, which means it won't grow as much. Plus, there is a limit to how much food the plant needs, which means that any extra time in the light is essentially wasted anyway. By giving the plants a night cycle, you give them time to rest and put all that energy they stored during the day to good use. Raising plants is sort of like raising kids. If you shelter them and pamper them too much, they'll never grow up to be well adjusted adults. I killed my first batch of bhuts by over-pampering them, actually. Had a small number of seeds I wanted to be sure nothing would happen to them that by the time they saw what the real world was like they just shriveled up and died (guess I should have spent more than a week hardening them off, but I digress). Yeah, like people, give your plants a good 8 hours of sleep at night and they'll be much happier.

I had a Carrier gas pack that did something similar. It turned out to be a bad control board. Every now and then it would momentarily pulse power to the blower motor. That caused the duct work to make noise. At times, it did it every few seconds. It did it even with the blower switched off at the thermostat. I have flex duct in the crawlspace, so I didn't get any banging out of it, just a soft duct flex sound. If I had a sheet metal duct running to the unit, I would have expected it to bang somewhat from oil canning. BTW, if you are not familiar with the term, a gas pack is a package air conditioner (everything in one unit) and natural gas/propane furnace all in the same box. It sits entirely outside the house hard against the side. Both supply and return ducts connect directly to the unit. To check and see if you are having the same problem, put your hand by a supply vent when it happens. If you feel a slight puff of air, you may be experiencing the same thing. My then AC tech claimed it was mice chewing on the thermostat wire and refused to go into the craw space and look. I didn't believe him and troubleshot it myself. I bought a new control board on eBay and repaired the thing myself. I never had another lick of trouble with it. Good luck with your system.

So - ya gotta put it together in place, huh? Right beside the wall!

But - how do ya put the screws in?

Or- put it together on a piece of plywood, with the back at one edge, then push it back against the wall ...

... but - how do ya get the plywood out?

Oh, I know - have a big party, invite friends in to celebrate (but get 'em to do the moving first thing ... before they get drunk?)

Oh, right: all they hafta do is lift the darn thing, then someone pulls the plywood out, then they set it down.

Job complete (but add the price of the party supplies to the cost of the furniture to figure the actual bottom line, right?).

Life do have its complications!

Oh, I don't think they should/will charge you for a new piece. How many people could lift a new desk into place?? Hardly anyone. If they don't sound willing to send it for free, ask for a supervisor. You should definitely expect them to send you out another piece, asap. And congratulations on putting that thing together yourselves!

In years psst Amber and I have put together many things like the desk. We found it was a good idea to sort all of the parts and keep them in cup cake pans, that way as you needed a certain part it would be handy.

It's also a good idea to air out the parts outside if you can (if you're using particle board, which I assume since you're assembling it yourself) before bringing it into your house because they use some nasty chemicals to make it. It takes a few years to outgas all of it but it's the strongest in the beginning.

It's recommended to air them out for 2 months, which is pretty unreasonable if there's a need for the piece but a few days might be helpful. But then again, not everyone is as anti-chemical as I am so it's just a suggestion. :)

I don't think they will argue with you. I've had pieces come damaged and they've sent replacements out immediately without asking for the broken piece back. These companies know what they're selling. Of course, with Nick and Dan's bunk beds, there was a split (not broken) rail and there was NO information whatsoever in the packaging to contact the manufacturer. I thought that was clever of them.

I absolutely REFUSE to buy anymore, assemble-it-yourself, furniture. I have in the past and I have some decent pieces (it does usually look good) but the quality has deteriorated to the point where it's just not worth it anymore. There is always a drawer or something that goes wrong. And drawers are always incapable of actually holding anything besides cotton balls and those bookshelves can't hold the weight of books. Bookcases are literally held together by the cardboard backing (which is never big enough to get attached correctly).

I find used furniture is a much better value. They really don't make things like they used to. I only bought the bunk beds because I couldn't find any used and I needed them ASAP. I am always looking for used old sturdy bookcases but they are very hard to find.

Well, I called this morning before realizing they were closed because it's Saturday. Went on-line and ordered the pieces without any problem. They are going to take 5-7 days. Hopefully sooner!

My last desk was the same brand, same cheap stuff and it lasted over 10 years. I just hope this one does the same. The drawers are horrible, why do they make the bottoms out of cardboard? The old desk's top drawer kept falling apart and dropping everything down behind it and into the drawer below it. It finally just fell totally apart and I gave up and ordered this one.

I wanted a real wood roll top-type desk but just can't afford it right now. Someday....

I ordered a desk from Walmart online and when receied noticed scratches on the top where they would show. contacted them and they sent a replacement part with no charge.
It is always worth a try to set things staight.

Do you mean that the side is just that, the side all the way to the floor? Then yes it will work, just put one under each corner. Tip gently to slide them under, move the desk, tip gently again to remove.
