Pic of my horseraddish

I did take a picture of my horseraddish after it was finished. Sorry, no pics of the process! I have enough trouble getting things made, let alone taking pictures in the process or plating for pictures. I am doing good to get it made and on the table!

This is two roots worth.

As were ours when we made it! The sun was shining, glaring off of the snow thru the windows of the sun porch, adding to the fumes to make the eyes burn. OH MY! But DH now has enough, I hope, to last him until fall. I use at least 1 1/2 t. in his salad dressing every week, plus whatever he and DS eats when they remember it's in the frige.

Keith, Thanks! The spanish moss looks good, but I think it's freeze dried. Even the moss in my garage did not pull through (probably from the lack of moisture), but it was alive well into February so it was very close to the light at the end of the tunnel. I'll definitely be replacing it all in the spring. I've noticed that Chamerops pups show more cold tolerance than the mother plant, I still have no idea why. haha. My guess is that it's because they are closer to the ground. Thanks Trishmick! Sounds like you had a good time too! I hope you have luck with germinating the seeds you collected. I collected some loquat seeds from Florida 3 years ago and still haven't tried them. For some reason I never get around to starting seeds even when I have them right in front of me haha. I'm hoping one day to drive to Florida instead of taking a plane so I can bring back some nice seeds and plants! Thanks Bradley! I killed 3 pygmy palms indoors in the past so I know how that feels. I have found them to be the hardest palms to grow indoors which is weird considering that they are considered pretty hardy palms. For now on mine will definitely stay in the garage over the winter. OMG ALEX!! Looking great!! I can't believe the size of everything!! Your yard has really taken off. Since i have seen pictures of you yard last. The plumies look great. You need to check the forum to see the stripping of mine here in VB. I have had a great year with mine. My palms are all doing well and growing like crazy.. I dont climb on the ladders anymore especially the big 16 footers now. I leave that to the son. My daughter just had her little one.., so i have been busy with that. all is well tho. I miss you at the other forum.. Hope to see you soon! I still check in here every so often. Seems like my palm pictures are the same, so it seems like i dont have anything new to offer... sigh. At the restaurant, one of our popular methods of serving firm, white fish such as Cod or Pacific Red Snapper was to dip it in flour & egg wash and then coat it with Panko crumbs to which shredded, fresh horseradish root was added. The cooking left the flavor without the harsh bite. This was then topped with a bit of sour cream horseradish sauce. The chefs used to grate it and keep it in a plastic bag for use. Once, on a slow, boring night when boys will be boys trying to entertain themselves, a couple of the chefs opened the bag and told one of the waiters to, "here, smell this!" He bent over, took a big sniff, and fell down on the floor unconscious, like he'd been hit over the head with a brick. Once we'd woken him and made sure he was o.k., the guys were treated to a tongue lashing I doubt they suspected me of being able to produce. I love horseradish, but have been quite wary when I grate it ever since!

I was so excited when I read your post about making the horseradish. I told DH we should try it. He looked at me like I'd lost the last of my senses. Seems he had to grate (with a hand grater) horseradish roots when he was a kid. Must've been bad because he's never forgotten it.

It looks soooo good, Tami. Thanks for showing the picture.

OOOH nothing is better than homemade horseradish. Looks great Tami.

Horseradish is the only condiment that I really really love.

Patti, it's called a food processor! OUTSIDE! Well, we did ours on the sunporch, but the windows and door don't fit very well, so it's pretty ventilated, but it was still pretty bad!

I'll never forget my introduction to fresh horseradish....

the Lancaster Farmer's Market, 1970 something, aisle after aisle of beautifully ripe, washed vegetables, jar after jar of jewel-like pickles, beets, peaches and other canned goodies, rack after rack of shoo-fly pies, doughnuts, cookies, breads, and other baked goods....OMG what is that? A big bowl piled high with freshly grated horseradish and a large fan behind it aimed right at the passerby....me! It got your attention that's for sure! LOL!

LOL, Teresa, that sure would get my attention!

Like Ann T, I love horseradish, I have some growing but haven't managed to harvest big enough roots to do anything with them.

Tami, that looks absolutely and perfectly delicious, I can just taste it on a roast beef and swiss on rye, yum.

good job with the picture too!
