I bought a System 2000 boiler with a SuperStor Ultra indirect water heater in September '08, and I'm absolutely THRILLED with it. Compensating for central MA heating degree days, the new system is using about 45% less fuel than our previous setup (a 1994 New Yorker steel boiler, measured at 82% AFUE, with indirect HW). You can tell right away that you're saving money because the boiler just sits there completely cold most of the time. When it does come on, it runs only as long as it needs to and goes cold again after circulating any residual heat into the house or water heater. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. I had considered the Buderus, but it was physically larger, a bit more expensive and a bit less efficient. That included the pricey outdoor reset controller that several contractors admitted was "very tricky" to optimize. Ultimately, I opted for simplicity over complexity, and buying American was a bonus. Regarding the cracking, my installer said the most common problem is when clueless technicians try to clean the high-tech ceramic combustion chamber with a brush and crack it (basically, it should NEVER be touched). Make sure the person installing/servicing this system has been fully trained on it, and get references if possible. Some contractors claimed "you can't get parts for those boilers". Turns out all the parts are standard off-the-shelf items (burner, circulator, zone valves, etc), except for the controller and the boiler core itself. If the controller dies, you can short out two contacts with a paper clip and force it into conventional boiler mode - always hot - until someone can fix it. There's even an outlet on the controller to plug in a generator if you lose power, which I learned during the December ice storm. I was stuck with oil, but this boiler can run on natural gas or propane with a simple burner swap if you decide to switch. I thought it was a really cool feature. Warranty is limited lifetime on the pressure vessel & controller, and I believe five years on everything else, but you can confirm with the mfr. I chose the SuperStor water heater because it had a lifetime warranty and the EK one didn't. I probably sound like a shill for the manufacturer, but I'm just extremely pleased with this boiler... and happy to be saving money, helping the environment and hurting the terrorists. ;-)

John and Brenda, Salt Lake City April fools day 2021, the first time out of covid quarantine, we left our house for a few hours only to come back and find a pipe had burst and flooded our basement. We contracted Repipe of Utah to replace our old pipe with Repipes patented PEX pipe….it’s very expensive! What you see is not what you get the plumbers they sent looked like gang members. Even our neighbors were taken back. I have to say the Repipe plumbers lacked quality workmanship! Granted Repipes patented pipe looks beautiful but the craftsmanship in which it was installed was subpar at best! Their Repipe installers made many errors in their install and also broke building code by not having a journeyman plumber here at all times….apprentices we’re here alone for at least four hours without supervision from a journeyman plumber. I will name a few of the errors made on our May 2021 install: 1) Reversed hot and cold water in the main floor bathroom, downstairs bathroom and laundry room. 2) Scratched my Toto toilet seat in the upstairs bathroom with a plumbing tool (they replaced the seat). 3) Instead of coming through the bathroom wall they drilled a hole in my nice tile floor without even calking the opening so If the toilet over flows the water will drain downstairs! Nobody ever talked to us about doing that! It also now makes it difficult for me to clean by the toilet! 4) One of the apprentices admiring my nice stainless steel wolf stove ran his hand across the top of the stainless steel while having pipe dope on his hands and ruined the finish of my nice stove. I keep cleaning it but the haze keeps coming back. 5) Because if the plumbing errors made, Repipe sent a second crew to fix first crews mistakes by fixing reverse hot and cold water connections. a)The laundry - they said it could not be corrected so that is a permanent reminder of Repipes incompetence! b) The downstairs shower faucets - they broke our Moen valve (we called another plumber to replace it which cost $200…Repipe reimbursed us.) c) The main floor bathroom - second crew said the pipe was not long enough so in order to fix it they had to make many connections using regular PEX piping and crimps not the patented plastic pipe and fittings (looks like the spaghetti bowl) I thought voided their warranty? 6) Repipe sent a 3rd crew - to replace the connection under main floor bathroom sink because it was leaking. (Not sure if that is the cause of an apparent leak in our downstairs bathroom ceiling which nobody has repaired or checked out. 7) Lastly Repipers made their connection to the main water line by the shut off valve inside our house enlarging the size of the hole with a drill around the incoming water pipe coming through our foundation. Thus making the previous tight fit exponentially bigger around the incoming water pipe. By doing this, it went against IPC Plumbing code by not caulking interior foundation hole compromising the integrity of our foundation thus making water leak in. The increase in the hole from inside that the repipers made and not sealing it up in anyway is what led to the water leaking in from outside. The only thing that changed our homes existing conditions in 20 plus years was Repipe connecting to our main water line shutoff valve. We hired a leak specialist at extra cost to us to seal the shutoff valve connection which repipe plumbers should have done had they followed IPC Plumbing code. In short, Repipe is responsible for the leak that followed. Repipe let us down and is not the company we were led to believe. Not only is Repipe not taking responsibility for the domino affect caused by their sloppy work but the grief and anxiety it has caused my husband I who are in our mid 70’s. Because of that leak and Repipes’s incompetence, our new carpet of just a week was ruined and Repipe refuses to reimburse us the $1500 it cost us to replace. Also Repipe does not have their own plumbers they don’t pull up in a Repipe truck but rather contract to outside plumbers. Buyers beware! Service: install new pipe

Homesealed: The original nondisclosure did not include comment to remove negative material already posted. To continue the story since, though. The day after I posted my review here, I got an updated nondisclosure agreement where they had added a retroactive clause like you describe as well. Looking back at records, we first contacted home depot 3 months after installation about the issue. Home depot has not commented on what they believe was the problem is nor fixed it. The mason and the other window installation company indicate the wrong type of caulking was used against brick and the width of the caulk is too large. If home depot does not resolve things soon/we cannot reach a settlement, since I will not be signing the nondisclosure, I will try to post exactly what it says. It is very restrictive and aggressive. I won't be posting more right now though. I am going to try to contact the HD corporate office AND/OR go try to get the local store manager involved to resolve things first, but based on responses from the install people, it looks like I may have to take legal action for HD to repair this or get someone else to do so. I have not even been able to get them out here to fix the "elevator" or "balancer" or whatever it is called. They have not even looked at it. I am sending them a video today to remind them.

We had ours installed in December and posted similar question last fall. It has a tactile quality unlike anything else and I’d waited years to use it, but I had so many people try talking me out of it. The feedback I got here gave me the boost I needed to go with my heart. We went to a couple of stone yards to find the slab we wanted. I tried finding domestic stone, but in the end went with a Brazilian called Black Unique. It has some veining, but a lot of quiet solid area. I love it and glad everyone here was so helpful. It’s really forgivable, tolerates heat without shocking or other damage, isn’t affected by chemicals, etc. And when you want to fix up the superficial wear, you can just give it a good scrub and a coat of wax. (Carnauba, beeswax mix) Poof, good as new!
