Well, It's Finally Over.

Christmas, that is. My son and his GF came to visit this weekend so now I can take down the decorations. I was in the mood a few days ago but now I'm not. Guess I'll have to get myself revved up

Sorry you're feeling down; is it because it's "all over"?? If so, I know what you mean. It all seems a blur to me. I have my tree down, but tons of other stuff still needs to be put away. I really need to downsize the decorations!! Hope you can find something to perk you up! :) Think spring??!!

Somebody told me, when the Christmas decorations come down, it's time to redecorate! Maybe new throw pillows, or a wall hanging, or even a bunch of flowers!

I have zero help on what to plant but you need to finish getting rid of the Bermuda Grass first. Its an ugly process. Weeds that grow from seeds are way down the priority list compared to the problem below the surface. Don't disturb the soil because you don't want to break off the Bermuda Grass and leave pieces that are very deep and will not come back for many months. You need to water deeply and wait for the Bermuda to come back up. You can gently pull on them and see if they are shallow. Don't break them off. Mostly that is a waste of time. Hit the new growths with Round Up. Repeat until there aren't any new growths of Bermuda Grass. You will probably need to repeat this 4-5 times so you are looking at a 3 month process. If you try to do this in a month you will have lots of remaining Bermuda that will sprout. You will need to be vigilant and Round Up every new growth. If you have established plants at that time, the best way is to dab Round Up Concentrate directly on the sprout. The plants system will circulate it through the plant. An alternative process on such a small area is to completly sift the top 8" of dirt to remove all the Bermuda Grass rhizomes. I understand that the best way to do this on the other side is to mow the Bermuda short and then use lots of Round Up on it. That gets down into the rhizomes and then very little will come back. I'm not a huge fan of Round Up, or any chemicals for that matter, but this is an ideal use of Round Up. Edited to add: I forgot to mention that the rhizomes from the remaining side can spread under the walkway and recontaminate your hard work. This info is from a meteorologist from Toronto Spring Forecast 2008 March 17, 2008 We 're coming out of one of the snowiest winters on record. About 185 cm of snow has been recorded at Pearson Airport since the start of November. The most snow ever recorded at Pearson was 207 cm in 1938/39. The white winter can be linked directly to a strong La Nina. The colder than normal waters in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean affected the Jet Stream's path. The storm track spent a good part of the winter flowing straight over southern Ontario. That's why we had so much snow. The latest sea surface temperature analysis in the equatorial Pacific is showing warmer water and therefore a weakening La Nina. I still think that even this weaker La Nina will keep temperatures cool into early April. I'm also expecting a little more snow. I wouldn't be shocked if we got 5-10 cm of snow in April. By the second half of the month temperatures will warm up enough to make April near normal for temperature. March will finish colder than normal and I'm expecting May to be slightly warmer than normal. Average May daytime highs hover a shade below 19C. Look for average highs close to 20C. That sounds pretty nice. Both April and May will have near normal amounts of precipitation. April averages 68.4 mm while May averages 72.5 mm. Michael Kuss Meteorologist

Hi Paul, Don't know if you have ever looked @ whatbird.com. I use it sometimes as a place to help with identification. Towards the bottom of the home page, in the middle, there is an option for "in 3 clicks using search". This allows for all sorts of search parameters....where you are located, size of bird, color, patterns, etc. I really like the process of elimination that it provides. I will say though, the pictures aren't always the best, but you can always get some names and then search images elsewhere to help with I.D. You might check it out to see if that helps! Other than that, I can't offer anything.....I have a difficult time I.D.ing (is that a word?)hawks. Good luck.

Well, as far as the York goes, they have been a boil on my %$^ for the last 7 or 8 yrs and I have ZERO confidence in them. Ok... let's think happy thoughts... Pat yourself on the back for a job well done creating a festive home. Dust yourself off and move forward. Think of how lovely it will be to relax with all the stuff out of the way. Good opportunity to freshen things up. Buy some flowers, fill a vase. Cheer yourself up a wee bit.

I'm not down, I just don't want to face all the work. I think I just need a day or two of nothingness. It seems like all I've been doing the past week is taking the dishes out of the dishwasher and putting them right back on the table for more guests. Sunday a week ago it was DD and SIL, Tuesday, neighbors, Friday, DS and GF, Saturday, DD, SIL, DS and GF and Sunday, DS and GF. Decorating is so much more fun than undecorating. I think I will start tomorrow and do a little at a time. The house always looks so bare when you first take it down. Some good ideas here, though. I think I will go looking for a new something to not perk me up but perk up the house.

I didn't decorate, so I didn't have to put things up.

Used to do a LOT of decorating, but that was way back when!

georgiy..that's exactly what we did this weekend..we only did the most important tasks (eating and sleepng, lol) oh we did the kitchen...and vac'ed for ds, as he brought our dgs...didn't want little fingers getting anything!

i also suggest you take an airborne, or at least a vit c...the deccos will get done....

I just undecorated my tree today... But it sometimes takes me several months to get it "all" down.

I have a magnetic snowman picture that goes on the front of the dishwasher. I get so accustom to seeing it there, that this past year I took it off for the Fall Harvest party...then had to put it back up just a few weeks later...LOL

I took my decorations down last weekend. I love seeing them, not putting them away. I do however, have a few gingerbread, a small santa, and a small 4 plate hanger on a wall. I just leave them up the whole year. I also have a pic of my dog who I lost late Nov. this year, decked out in antlers, in front of a Christmas tree in a red frame. Keep that on my microwave.
