Best Heating/Cooling New Construction

I'm sure it's here someplace, but I can't find it. If it is, just direct me to the link, and thanks.

We are building a house on 3 1/2 acres in lower peninsula Michigan. Assuming we are going to live "on the grid," I'm looking for opinions as to what would be the most short- and long-term cost effective heating/cooling/water heating solution.

Would it be Geothermal (DX or ??), Furnace, boiler? We will be using natural gas for cooking. Does anyone have possible comparison of the initial investment vs. operating cost?

I'm leaning toward an ECR type DX GT system, but I'm not sure what the initial investment vs. a standard furnace/AC unit/water heater would be. The wife is stuck on initial capital investment (short-term) vs. operating cost (long-term).

Other Considerations? I've seen a few posts on comfort.

Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.
